    Backyard Fires

You should call 911 when your neighbor is having his fire. Tell them you're neighbor is having a fire in yard right now and you're really concerned.
  4. Harvard they're not, eh? I see this only applies to the marketing students. They really have a set of unique priorities. And they violated the universities student bill of rights. The marketing department did not know what was in the bill of rights. Smart bunch. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/c...mepagenews2-utl But the Illinois business school Marketing Department dress code does not apply to the current Kearny debate. Kearny schools have a dress code. The debate is should Kearny require uniforms. Uniforms are not required by the Illinois Business School Marketing Department dress code. The business school seem to be very sterile. Soft drinks are not allowed in the 2-year-old building and posters are not allowed on the walls. Flat-screen televisions in the hallways stream business news. Very mundane. I guess they're trying to push our prevalent sterile corporate culture into the kids early. Innovative companies do the opposite. Their dress codes are non-existent or very lax and they give you refrigerators filled with free soft drinks, juices and lots of other goodies. They're the companies with the nice profits.
  5. I wonder at what level the courts would find the students speech inapproproate. If she is allowed to do this then I guess a Muslim could have said "I'm here because of my religion. Blessed be the Prophet Mohammed and Allah". Would the courts have allowed 1 - "I'm here because of my religion. Blessed be the Prophet Mohammed and Allah. It is with love I tell you Christians, convert to my religion and get the blessings of life before it is to late." 2 - "I'm here because of my religion. Blessed be the Prophet Mohammed and Allah. It is with love I tell you Christians, do not go to hell, instead convert to my religion and get the blessings of life before it is to late." 3 - "I'm here because of my religion. Blessed be the Prophet Mohammed and Allah. It is with love I tell you Christians, do not go to hell, instead convert to my religion and get the blessings of life before it is to late. I will be giving out conversion pamphlets later." Where is the cutoff point?

    Supporting the Troops.

It seems even the troops don’t believe we should remain. We have real issues when senior NCO’s publicly say this S**ks. And we have unprecedented numbers of junior officers getting out quickly. It seems the only ones believing in the mission or stating the surge works are senior officers who were not forced out like Shinseki or quit like Batiste. Left are the ones who are following the party line like the Soviet political officers under Stalin. Instead of leading, they are paid to spout the current party line and are known by all real military as the Perfumed Princes of the Pentagon. By the way how do we measure the surge works? Does it work because some Generals and politicians say so? The statistics don’t support this belief. The attack rate on our troops is constantly going up. The Iraqi infrastructure is continually getting worse. Less electricity every month. We can’t even support the capital. The central government is a joke. Iraq is now governed by city states, where each city state has its own “freedom” militia as its power base. But then our government knows that the real powers are the militias. That is why we are now arming the Sunni militias, the same Sunni’s that were the backbone of Saddam’s power, hoping they will fight Al Qaeda. Just as we armed the Taliban and Al Qaeda when they were fighting the soviets in Afghanistan.
  7. Permitted. They will ask the Lord for forgiveness whereupon the sin will be washed away. I had one of them at work. Born again and continually trying to get us to join his Church. A lot of times, for lunch, he would go to the park and read the scriptures. Very religious. He was a contractor and billed hourly. He came in at 9:30 to 10:00, went downstairs for breakfast, left at 5:00 to 5:15 pm and normally took 1 1/2 hours for lunch. His work day was about six hours. But he billed for eight. I asked him bluntly, how can he reconcile his lying about his hours with his religion - "I ask the Lord to forgive and he forgives me." His work was excellent but he did lie.
  8. Whenever I get personal insults, I know that I hit a nerve. Doesn’t the truth hurt. Ouch. You don’t work for a uniform supplier, do you? The MD failed because we were kept in meetings for 7 hours a day – project status meetings, QA meetings, business appraisal meetings, staff meeting and writing reports on the meetings which were then reviewed at the start of every meeting. By the time our meetings and reports were done, very boring mundane work, we were too worn out to do any real new productive work. Dress codes are good because teens need to learn how to dress decently as expected in jobs which do not have uniforms. A dress code requiring a uniform is not good. The kids are not doorkeepers. Many who get so adamant for requiring a uniform dress code ignore real issues with the Kearny Schools. The Kearny HS SAT scores are abysmal. You’re paying all that money and the result is sad. 472 and 454 is pretty low but somehow the following year Kearny managed to lower itself to 466 and 450. Kearny HS SAT Scores Year 04/05 - Math 472 State Average 519, Reading 454 State Average 501 Year 05/06 - Math 466 State Average 516, Reading 450 State Average 494 So maybe my comment hit it on the head. If education fails, then train for the low skill service industry jobs – Mc Donalds, doormen. Jobs that will always be available and where they don’t care about SAT scores but they do care about uniforms. If this is what you aspire for your children, then uniforms are for you. Interviewing Kearny graduates for a decent jobs and knowing their public school required uniforms would give some interviewers pause. The perception is that public schools that require uniforms have “issues”. Interviewers would wonder if the Kearny kids are carrying any “baggage” from that school. Uniforms are not needed to meet educational mandates and may actually be a disservice to the graduates.
  9. Does not mean anything. I've worked in corporations where high level technical people and their managers making 150,000 to 300,000 normally wore dungarees and polo shirts. Some even wore sandals. If you want your children to emulate highly sucessful very well paid professionals, then don't use a uniform dress code. Uniforms are good for McDonalds, doormen and any other service industry jobs. Maybe the Kearny school system is setting up to train for that career path. In the downtown financial area you can see dress codes are pretty lax or non-existent. Professionals don't wear uniforms. Most wear polo shirts and dockers. Some wear dungarees and sneakers. If you want to see uniforms look at the doormen and the people who clean the building. Teens need to learn how to dress decently as expected in good jobs which do not have uniforms. In one corporation (bank) no one was really bothered by our very lax dress code until we got some Managing Director who thought this is unprofessional. So everyone was expected to dress "corporate". Unfortunately for him, with all his paperwork bs, productivity crashed, even though he doubled staff. He had all these plans but nothing ever came to fruition. And we stopped getting projects out on time. He lasted two years. Reorganization significantly cut our department. Then we merged with another department with the other department manager getting his position. He moved down into a "project" group given him with no one reporting to him. He left. Don't assume the person coming out of a buiding wearing dungarees, sneakers and a TAG or Breitling is the mailboy. The watches are real.

    Enlightening Liberals

In many religions Karma is the concept that what you do in this life will determine your next life or existence. In our culture, we usually mean payback or a measure of justice applied magically. With us this belief is prevalent with the simple and helpless. They are miserable and can't take care of their own problems, so they wait for Karmic relief to balance the scales of justice. So many in misery wait their whole lives for Karma to smite their enemies or improve their lot in life. When they see someone evil get it they'll say "aha, karma". But in real life this rarely happens. A lot of evil people, including well known dictators live to an ripe old age in comfort. And a lot of good innocent people suffer incessantly. But then they always have the fall back of the ultimate Karmic event, judgement by God. Happy waiting.
  13. So, now its Matthew who was baiting the teacher under the tutelage of his attorney father. The baiting would have been obvious from his recordings. Try listening to them. Mr. P. has been doing this for years. Who baited Mr. P. in previous years? Was it some cabal? Talk about revisionist history. You people would have done so well in Soviet Russia. Again, its proved you don't want to learn. You just want your beliefs validated.

    Been Here Before

I see your point since that can be very aggravating. So you're saying if you are a resident and you don't have a driveway, you get two permits to park in the street? But if you have a driveway then no permits. It might work as if in Hoboken everyone gets a permit. That would remove visitor cars. I don't know if that could help you. I don't think the town will go for your solution. All the driveway owners will be very unhappy if they can't park on their own streets. Your solution is political suicide and and don't think the town will go for it.

    Supporting the Troops.

Why do so many Americans get their panties in a twist over Iraq? We're the only ones saying the world will end if we leave. Just about everyone else has left. The Brits are leaving, having reduced their forces to 5500 and will be completely out of there sometime next year. They're not worried. Stop the melodrama and just get out of there. We look like a bunch of scared whiny little children to the rest of the world.
  16. Actually you can. Use the Israeli model. Most of the security we have is a joke. Everyone working the airports knows that. For example, confiscated liquids are thrown in a big buckets. Does anyone seriously believe that if we really thought the liquids are dangerous we would just throw them in large buckets? You'd never get anyone to work there if they really thought they are sitting next to buckets of explosive liquids.

    A must watch on CNN

Of course. Unfortunately, somebody has to be societies cannon fodder. May as well be you.
  18. Wow, we jump from uniforms to decency and Adam and Eve. Quite a jump. And whats wrong with intellectuals? It was the enlightened intellectual philosophers of the renaissance who came up with the philosophies that led to the rights of man and to our founders creating the bill of rights (most of whom were also intellectuals). Without intellectuals you would be living in a 19th century Russian feudal society and you certainly would not have the right to post your opinions anywhere. Intellectuals also led the way for many of our scientific advances such as the Copernican theory by the intellectual (mathematician, astronomer and classical scholar) Copernicus. Or the Germ theory. It took many intellectuals to think outside of the box, then test their theories and get rid of the belief that disease is spontaneously generated or generated by dark forces. Without them, you'd still be bled when you got sick.
  19. What does home schooling have to do with this?
  20. That's being a slick politician. He knows if was not settled, the school system would lose and it would cost them a lot more in legal and other settlement costs. But this way he gets it both ways. He caters to the towns reactionary elements who he assumes are the majority (at one time Bush also had majority support). He knew the majority wanted to do the legal and ethical thing by settling. So he supported the reactionaries without risking an expensive and ultimately embarrassing court fight. Its easy to vote for something popular even if it is illegal. It takes guts to vote for something unpopular.
  21. Breasts and asses hanging out? Get off it. I have never seen that. Exaggerating does not help your case.
  22. I did not bring up the union. Why are you bringing up the teachers union? We're dealing with an educational issue and last time I looked teachers are stakeholders in the students education. The pro uniform clique argues that uniforms are needed to improve the educational environment. I want the teachers take on this. Do they believe that, or are the uniform folks making a mountain out of a molehill?
