  1. I agree Biden is no Obama in terms of academic credentials. But Biden (and all his warts) is leagues ahead of Mrs. Palin. Both ends of the Republican ticket scrape the bottom of the barrel.

    Unfortunately you're right.

Palin is now continually playing the Obama is friends with a "terrorists" mantra. With McCain joining in.

    http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2..._to_bill_a.html

While the economy is really collapsing and they're busy playing their old standby, the fear game.

Bush under the supervision of Karl Rove pulled this game in 2004. I hope people learned.

  2. Yes, graduating in law school is totally comparable to having to go through a handful of colleges just to get a communications-journalism B.S. The average American is a "super star" compared to Mrs. "I have foreign policy experience because you can see Russia from Alaska".

Depends on what law school. Some are harder than others.

I worked with someone who has a law degree. He did not work as a lawyer. He never passed the oft taken bar exam. He was "lacking."

Just as there are some doctors that you could not trust to scalpel a potato. A degree in an "elite" course of study does not connote competency or even intelligence.

  3. John McCain ranked # 894 out of 899 graduates in his class at the Naval Academy.

Barack Obama made Law Review at Harvard Law, finishing in the top 5% of his graduating class.

Where did Sarah Palin rank at the University of Idaho or at any of the prior 4 universities she transferred out of?

Maybe you should have looked Biden up before you asked about Palin. Biden was not what one would call a super star:

Mr. Biden, who graduated from the law school in 1968, was 76th in a class of 85.(Syracuse University College of Law)

    http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html...75AC0A961948260

Biden attended the University of Delaware in Newark. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in history and political science in 1965, ranked 506th of 688 in his class.

He went on to receive his Juris Doctor from Syracuse University College of Law in 1968, where by his own description he underperformed.During his first year there, he was accused of having plagiarized 5 of 15 pages of a law review article. Biden said it was inadvertent due to his not knowing the proper rules of citation, and he was permitted to retake the course after receiving a grade of F, which was subsequently dropped from his record.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Biden

A good one, plagiarizing five pagesr and then excusing it on not knowing the "proper rules of citation". A future politican in action. :P

  4. What do ypu think they'd say about the treasonous act of selling weapons to an enemy, another Reagan 'accomplishment'?

Invoke Bush doctrine #2 - the President is the unitary executive, the Fount of the State.

Therefore, by definition, the President can do no wrong. When Reagan sold Iran our weapons, then obviously, the Iranians were not our enenemies.

  5. What makes you think Munger didn't tell the truth? He is an eyewitness to the conversation and he put his name behind it.

Oh. OK. I'm glad you clarified that. Yes, putting your name behind something makes all the difference.

  6. We would certainly have been better off if we had a cocker spaniel the last seven years. Just about every decision made by Bush has been wrong.

One reason we are in this financial mess is because Bush emptied our treasury with his year after year deficit of 600 billion, managing to raise our national debt by 5 trillion. If it hadn't been for his 5 trillion national debt increase we would easily have handled the 700 billion needed for this latest economic disaster. Thanks to Bush, that elasticity is gone.

How do you people who are living on retirement funds, pension plans and annuities feel considering on the average you lost 5-10% of your total retirement money in one day? You put in year after year and you lose so much in one day. You can thank your Republican buddies for that.

And don't think that government pensions are safe, they are heavily invested in equities. You can't pay out what you don't have. And don't expect the taxpayers to add contributions to your pension funds - the tax base will be shrinking.

We have a Pearl Harbor economic crisis and our fine congress decides to take tomorrow off for the Jewish holiday. Most people are working tomorrow but the "congress" needs the day off during a national crisis. I don't care if tomorrow is Easter, Christmas, Yom Kippur, Ramadan or whatever, they have to come in and fix this.

McCain looked like an asshole running back and forth to "resolve" this. McCain's brought nothing to the table and as usual it is the Republicans who are obstructing.

Even though I don't like Obama, I now think he's a better choice.

  7. I thought Obama did better.

However, we will not know who won the debate until the polls come out. Our presidential political debates exist to sway voters to vote for their candidates. You can have one candidate saying repeating "Baba au rum" and the other stating issues with solutions. However, if the "Baba" candidate sways more voters, then that candidate will have won the debate.

If there is no poll change, then Obama will have won. McCain is behind and he needs to sway voters over to his side.

Most political analysts and pundits are useless. They are a self perpetuating class that primarily exists for their own benefit, justifying their jobs. I don't need them to explain or interpret.

  8. One thing hanging this deal is protection for homeowners. The NY Times has an editorial stating that the special preferment given the financial industry with mortgages be removed.

However, Obama opposes that. He’s supporting the banking industry. Why?

Mr. Paulson has long opposed what is probably the best way to help Americans stay in their homes: allowing a bankruptcy court to reduce the size of bankrupt borrowers’ mortgages. Unfortunately, but predictably, drafts of the bailout plan circulated late Thursday do not mention that relief.

It is simply outrageous that every type of secured debt — except the mortgage on a primary home — can be reworked in bankruptcy court. The law was designed to protect lenders, who have obviously and disastrously abused that protection. There would be no favors dispensed in bankruptcy proceedings. Lenders would have to accept less of a payback and borrowers would have to submit to the oversight of the bankruptcy court for years.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/26/opinion/26fri1.html?hp

Frank said the primary remaining point of contention between Democrats and Republicans is a proposal to give bankruptcy judges new power to modify mortgages for troubled homeowners, an idea that is widely viewed as a bargaining chip. Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) has said the provision, which is fiercely opposed by the banking industry, should not be included in the bill.

  9. No one said it was the teachers putting pressure on the children, it is the the other children laughing at the kids if they don't sell anything, and that is what was meant, children have a way of making other children feel bad, their feelings get hurt . My main issue is that it is extremely exspensive to send one child to school nevermind four. Yes, my daughter did buy the uniforms before hand, one set a week for each child, shoes, and other clothing items plus back packs etc. I feel that I as a taxpayer who does not have any children in school pay enough school tax to provide every necessity and extras that they need. Yes, the PTA is a wonderful thing as a matter of fact I was a member for over 20yrs we held auctions, plant sales, car washes, book sales cake sales etc. to get money for our kids, and we did it, we only had maybe two fundraisers a year, Xmas & Easter that the kids sold candy, pizza etc. That is what I should have said in the begining.

    That explains it.

I don't know how old your kids are, but if they are old enough they could reply "fund raising is not my thing and if you have to do it, that's your problem, not mine." I suspect the kids who made comments themselves don't want to do this and they get a little pissed when they see someone got out of it.

As a student, I've never been subjected to the fundraiser monster. My son was. But, he never ever bought any money back to the school. He didn't want to fund raise. And we didn't feel like walking him around the neighborhood for that. His attitude was that he shouldn't have to go door to door selling like some peasant. I suspect if someone made a comment he would have given the above response.

I think fundraisers are ridiculous and inefficient. Too much of the money goes in fund raising expenses. If you feel they need money, simply donate. No need to waste it on fund raising expenses.

  10. Now its the conservative Republicans who are stalling this. Either they are posturing or they haven't figured out by now the effect this economic meltdown will have on us.

This isn't about bailing out Wall Street fat cats. They already have their millions. If we go south, they'll simply move out - to their foreign town houses or estates.

This is about us - our savings, our mortgages, our retirement funds, business loans, home loans, car loans. Don't expect to see your money if this is not taken care of.

Sad. Our economy is a wreck. They hesitate to spend to fix that but they have no problem allocating billions and billions for the war.

The senator was apparently alluding to a growing revolt by conservative House Republicans against the proposed $700 billion rescue, and the fact that Senator McCain has not yet endorsed the plan, whose concept runs contrary to the policy positions he has taken for years.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/26/business/26bush.html?hp

At the bipartisan White House meeting that Mr. McCain had called for a day earlier, he sat silently for more than 40 minutes, more observer than leader, and then offered only a vague sense of where he stood, according to people in the meeting.

This tells me that McCain is not up to the job – the presidency.

The papers state that conservative Republicans are stalling this. But how can they? They don’t control congress. The Democrats do. Republicans and Democrats are both playing games during our financial meltdown.

However, I don't think McCain went to Washington simply to avoid the debate. It was McCain who wanted 14 debates (one a week this summer), which Obama refused.

Earlier today, Mr. Clinton gave a wide berth to Mr. McCain for wanting to postpone the first presidential debate, scheduled for Friday.

“We know he didn’t do it because he’s afraid, because Sen. McCain wanted more debates,” Mr. Clinton said on “Good Morning America.”

“You can put it off a few days,’’ Mr. Clinton added, ceding that “the problem is it’s hard to reschedule those things.” He said of Mr. McCain: “I presume he did that in good faith since I know he wanted — I remember he asked for more debates to go all around the country, and so I don’t think we ought to overly parse that.” - Bill Clinton

  11. Get your facts straight. Obama is in Washington today.

He has sponsored 132 bills since becoming Senator just 2 years ago.

    Partyer? Obama is a teetoller.

Your deliberate use of racist imagery (boy/lips) is repulsive. It also motivates me re-double my efforts to see Obama elected.

He said he was not going to go to Washington. That changed after the president invited Obama and McCain to go to the White House during his national TV address. When there is a high profile photo op Obama becomes available.

Many have stated that McCain went to Washington simply to posture and also to skip this debate. Now that this current crisis looks to be resolved (by tomorrow), I'm sure he'll go. Here's a former presidents take on this:

Earlier today, Mr. Clinton gave a wide berth to Mr. McCain for wanting to postpone the first presidential debate, scheduled for Friday.

“We know he didn’t do it because he’s afraid, because Sen. McCain wanted more debates,” Mr. Clinton said on “Good Morning America.”

You can put it off a few days,’’ Mr. Clinton added, ceding that “the problem is it’s hard to reschedule those things.” He said of Mr. McCain: “I presume he did that in good faith since I know he wanted — I remember he asked for more debates to go all around the country, and so I don’t think we ought to overly parse that.”

Of course it was Obama who cut the number of debates. Not that I've seen that being reported all over the news.

  12. With his poll numbers plummeting, McCain tried to postpone the first debate today. That didn't work. The debate commission promptly said no and Obama, looking every bit the next president, said that this is exactly the time when Americans need to hear from their candidates most. He's exactly right.

Maybe Obama is the one who doesn't get it.

"Brilliant," a top Democratic strategist glumly told the Daily News. "We just got totally screwed. Going back to Washington is what Presidents do. He's acting like a leader."

    http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2...nd_his_cam.html

This financial crisis can kill us. Millions of retirees can kiss their annuities and their retirement checks bye bye if this is not resolved. Where do you think all the retirement funds are sitting? We'll also have massive layoffs with the state unemployment funds being depleted (you will then be paying more unemployment tax).

And those of you who have savings, don't count on the 100,000 FDIC savings insurance to save you if there are massive failures. The FDIC fund has 42 billion. That's not going to cover the trillions of savings, money that the banks really don't have because they loaned out your savings for mortgages, credit lines, business loans. The whole financial system is a house of cards, where one card leans on the other.

The housing marked will get worse because of the additional layoffs and retirees no longer getting their supplemental incomes. A lot more foreclosures and lowered home equities.

The rest of the world will decouple from us. They're sick and tired of our financial issues destabilizing their economies. They're holding trillions of our dollars which they will attempt to dump to minimize their losses. They will also initiate financial changes removing the dollar as the reserve currency.

This crisis will have severe effect on our economy over the next few years. If you're running for president, it would behoove you to get very closely involved, because you're going to be stuck with the decisions that are currently being made.

If Obama doesn't get that, then he's living way above his pay grade.

  13. Where are the Christian values of a person who divorces his first wife because she becomes disfigured as John McCain did? My friend, if you're going to apply "Chiristian Values", apply them to all candidates.

I for one am voting on the economy -- as are 80% of Americans.

I guess then you won't be voting for Obama. We're facing the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression and Obama can't even be bothered to go to Washington.

Considering that he may be the next president, it would behoove him to get involved. But, I'm not surprised. Looking at his work history (has he ever attended his committee meetings?) that party boy so far has decided not to get involved.

Has Obama really done anything useful besides flapping his lips?

  14. The fatal flaw in your logic is that George W. Bush's alma maters, Harvard and Yale, have the biggest university endowments in the world (in the hundreds of billions). Yale hasn't increased their undergraduate student body. I don't know about the Harvard Business School, but I seriously doubt daddy's contribution resulted in an expansion of Harvard. They're elite schools and keep their student numbers at levels that ensure acceptance rates of 10% or less. The reality is that it's blatant preferential treatment for those with connections and power, which historically has meant White male.

His grandfather, Prescott Bush, was one time head of Yale's "development" committee. He was also a governor of the school.

  15. How self-righteous of you. If you understood Christianity, you would know that this man is your brother as much as he is Senator Obama's. You send him the money.

Does that mean Obama does not understand Christianity?

Nothing special. All families have problems. Besides, how can he have time for family when he's busy saving the world?

    Here's more on Obama's brother

    http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2...halfbrothe.html

Would this go under the "compassionate liberal" label?

  16. WHY don't you post some quotes that nitwits like YOU consider words of wisdom like:

"Too many OB-GYNs aren't able to practice their love with women all across this country." G W Bush

    WANKER!

Funny too. Except this time it was really said.

  17. I'll explain it to you again. What damaged Kearny's reputation was the reputation of Neanderthals like you. He got the last laugh because you were so laughable. And you still are. Not to mention petty and vindictive.

Matthew didn't get a dime from the school district. It's a fact and a matter of public record. If you don't believe me, contact the board offices. Every dime they pay out is public record. There is not one penny anywhere in their budget to pay Matthew for anything.

People don't have to stay ignorant, but some do. Some things never change.

Matthew should have sued for every penny they had - stress, mental trauma, attempted trashing of his reputation. Some governmental entities only learn when they have to pay out big bucks and have to explain to the taxpayers why they had to pay out.

  18. One blog has her in the 1100's another in the 1300's. Yours is very precise, what's your source?

(By the way, 970 out of 1600 is still higher than George W. Bush who was a Yale White affirmative action legacy. And yes, I blabbed by saying that Michelle Obama's SAT score was higher than YOURS. You still haven't answered that point but I suspect you'll come up with some fictional high number to continue your rationalization ramt of "White victimization" for your lot in life.

    Again,

Bush's SAT scores are verbal: 566; math: 640

    http://archive.salon.com/politics2000/feat...2000/04/17/sat/

ps - One of my SAT scores was 795 (Still unhappy I didn't get 800). Which is why I got into Columbia.

  19. Can't accept that a Black woman had higher SAT's and grades than you, can you? Or that a Black man became President of the Harvard Law Review (literally, en elite within an elite) based entirely on grades and a writing sample? Why are you so threatened by successful African Americans that you immediately resort to race to account for their accomplishments?

Speaking of affirmative action, how do you think George Bush II got admitted to Yale University? And with a C average got admitted to Harvard Business School?? The irony of all this is that our leaders who have benefited from affirmative action are mostly White legacies (see also Dan Quayle, John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, John McCain, etc.)

No one knows what her SAT scores are since she refuses to divulge them. To me they're really not important.

Two wrongs do not make a right. I don't believe in legacy seats just as I don't believe in minority quotas. Either is wrong. Giving preferment to some may cause discrimination against others.

Of course the legacy seats have a very strong argument. Take our legacy "booboo" in and we'll give your school enough money to create 20 new seats. So a legacy preferment may not cause others to be denied. Unlike a minority preferment, which will use up a seat, causing someone with higher grades to be denied. That really goes against the belief that we should be a merit based society.

The fact is people of color (Asians usually excluded) are accepted with lower scores than their non-color compatriots. Colleges adjust the SAT "cutoff" level for people of color. This is to handle the 200 point disparity between blacks and whites.

The racial scoring gap on the SAT test has now become wider than has been the case for the past two decades. Many believe that in the years to come the gap may grow smaller, not because blacks are catching up to whites in educational achievement, but rather because the test makers are adding a writing component to the test that may be manipulated to lessen racial differences and therefore reduce public criticisms of the test.
