  1. Isn't it funny how people are assuming that the signs are being torn down maliciously, when it seem to be the other way around.  Millan signs are on houses where there are no registered voters and the homeowners are removing the signs.  Yet when the other teams signs are cut from properties or ripped out, no one seems to know anything.

    Hey folks, GROW UP!

The rediculous cut and paste work on Millan propaganda is just childish and it shows the maturity level that will be running our town if Millan and "his people" get into office.

Millan signs on houses with no registered voters?! McDonough's signs are all over houses with no registered voters. I can list you houses just in my neighborhood. Get your facts straight.

  2. 50 cops is plenty for 1 square mile. Add the parking enforcement officers and dispatchers and that brings the TO up to 63, the same as 1998. Only, were getting more bang for the buck. The crime rate is low compared to 1996 when we had 960 crimes compared with 454 in 2005. So, you misgruntled police officer who would never be happy even if you stayed home and they sent your check to Howell in Monmouth County, shut up or do the job that your being paid to do. B)

Parking Enforcement Officers have no authority to issue summons when it comes to Title 39 infractions. CIVILIAN dispatchers also have no authority. So you're back to the 48 police officers that the town has, when they all decide to show up since they have unlimited sick time.

Don't forget, our wonderful mayor is DOUBLING the town's population without adding police officers.

30,000 residents + 25,000 soccer fans (if the stadium has a good day) = ONE HELL OF A PROBLEM.

Remember when the Sopranos were here, that was only 10,000 people added.

  4. Below is what our school administrators in town make:

    Full Time 17 HUDSON 2060 HARRISON 000 DISTRICT OFFICE  $104,991  12 month 0112 F Sch Bus Admin

    Full Time 17 HUDSON 2060 HARRISON 000 DISTRICT OFFICE  $155,969  12 month 0102 F Chief Sch Admin

    Full Time 17 HUDSON 2060 HARRISON 000 DISTRICT OFFICE  $142,391  12 month 0120 F Ast Supt Non-bus

All 3 over 100K!  Thats part of your tax money.

You can get the entire report at:

    http://www.nj.gov/njded/data/salary/salary.xls

Note: This is for 2005... not 2006.... add another 5%-10% for 2006.

Anthony Comprelli, Chief School Administrator, makes $155,969 a year!? That's ridiculous.

Fred Confessore, Assistant Supt makes $142,391?! I went into the wrong profession.

  5. This "Guest"  must be either Ray or Pete.  "Reap great rewards" ???  Oh yeah, I'm sure we're going to reap great rewards.  Let's see if I can name them;

      1.  More traffic  2. Worse parking problems (is that possible).  3. More crime

      4. Crisis situation in our schools  4. More cops needed (higher taxes).

I can't wait to see the first sell-out game.  20,000 fans, maybe 6 to 8 thousand cars and a 1,200 car parking garage.  Where do 5,000 cars go when the parking deck is full ??  That's another great reward I'm waiting for. Chief Kearns, I hope you have a plan to deal with thousands of unruly fans that can't find a place to park.

Kearns had a great plan put into place for when they began the work on 280, and what did that do? TRAFFIC BACKUPS! An hour and a half to get from one end of town to the other at the height of rush hour.

  6. Those who are thinking of purchasing one of the new housing units in town will have to sign an agreement with Peter Higgins of the Redevelopment Agency stating that they will undergo either a vasectomy or a hysterectomy before they can be allowed to move into their new home, and pay the $22,000 a year in taxes. Once they have been sterilized we can then rest assured that they will not produce offspring that will enter our great school system. They can also enter a lottery if they choose to be one of the couples per 100 housing units that can have their allotted 1.7 children.

  7. The other property owners in town (the homeowners and the business owners who are not special enough to be granted a tax abatement) will experience a drastic increase in taxes because the town will have to make the money from some where, and it isn't going to be from the new property that gets to pay a fraction of their true property taxes for years to come.

It is my understanding that most of the abatements will last for 10 years.

Sweetheart deals for the developers by the Mayor and Council, compliments of the Harrison taxpayers.

  8. A tax abatement is an agreement between a property owner and a town in which the town and the party agree to have the town collect a portion of the real property taxes that the property owner would have paid without the abatement.

  9. This web site is a great way to vent, but we need to be at town meetings, where it counts!  Do you think the mayor and council read this site?  The squeaky wheel get the grease; go to meetings and open your mouth.  That's the only way to be sure you're heard.

I'm sorry, that's not on the agenda. Please sit down.

  10. If something ever happens to me, I want an East Newark cop to respond.

East Newark's ONE COP on duty will be at my house faster than the 5 cops on a squad in Harrison would be at it (yea, 5 when they all show up and don't call out sick. Thank you Chief for unlimited sick time), and I don't even live close to East Newark.

  11. I just read in the September 13, 2006 edition of the Star-Ledger about the new stadium.

    Here are some excerpts:

"For Harrison, the stadium, scheduled to open in July 2008, will be the centerpiece of a $1 billion redevelopment plan that will convert Harrison's abandoned industrial waterfront into a modern, live-work-and-play transit village anchored by 800 apartments and dozens of stores and restaurants."

Now add the other 8,200 apartments that the genius redevelopment agency approved and see how much the transit village residents like living there then.

"With a stage at one end of the stadium that will make the facility a top concert venue during the spring and summer, developers say they have a formula that has proven successful in Denver, San Diego and other cities, despite major traffic jams on game days."

Denver, Colorado has an area of 154.9 square miles.

San Diego, California has an area of 372.0 square miles.

Harrison, New Jersey has an area of 1.2 square miles.

IF DENVER AND SAN DIEGO ARE HAVING MAJOR TRAFFIC JAMS ON GAME DAYS AND THEY ARE SO LARGE, WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO HARRISON ON GAME DAYS!?

"None of this will come cheap - for the soccer team, AEG or taxpayers, who will spend $120 million on the project and hope the investment gets repaid in future taxes and parking fees."

We already spent $40,000,000.00 on this stadium, and you're going to tell me we might pay more?

"The town of Harrison has issued $40 million in bonds, guaranteed by Hudson County, that will help cover the costs of acquiring and cleaning up land near the site of the former Guyon Pipe company for future development and for constructing new roads and utilities."

As far as I know, that $40,000,000.00 was just for the remediation and the purchase of the land, not the construction of new roads and utilities. As far as I know, they don't know how they're paying for new roads.

"Harrison also plans to pay back the bonds with real estate tax payments from the future construction, which is expected to include additional housing and retail space."

There's that word again, TAX PAYMENTS!

"We're helping the Red Bulls build their own stadium," Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise said. "Our calculations show the parking garage will be a moneymaker with just the commuters. The events at the stadium will be a bonus."

I'm glad the county is at least getting their money back they're spending on this debacle. They actually have smart politicians. Holy sh*t, what a concept, a smart politican.

"Attendance at Red Bulls and MetroStars games has lagged for years, and the team's owners are betting the lure of a new stadium can bring in thousands of new fans."

    Right.

Here's the link in case you don't believe me, because these are all facts.

  12. special thanks to the mayor and all involved with the 911 ceremony.

nice job. well done. i only wish that the prayers were heard and the peace i felt in my heart will be forever. good job mayor!

They did not even mention the only Harrison resident to die in the attacks, Fabian Soto. How horrible that the man's own town (**** **** ) could not honor him on the day he died.

    Rest in Peace, Mr. Soto.

  13. I was surprised to see Mr. Milan at the memorial service for the 9/11 victims. At first i thought it was an apparition but to my surprise that little weasel was there. Its funny to me because i haven't seen him around the last three years.  I thought he moved back with "his people".

9/11 is a sad day, a day of rememberance.  We all think about the innocent families that were destroyed by that dispicable act.  Mr. Milan has some balls showing up to the ceremony to show face for this upcoming electionin.    I got news for you buddy but not a very good way to try and win votes.

How come you talk about Millan like that, but fail to mention Larry Bennett and Jesus Huaranga up there with the council. They're not even councilmen yet.

    Nice try though.

  14. Does anyone like sitting in the mess in the morning?  It took me 30 minutes to get from Sherman ave to the path station.  Who do we complain to?  Does anyone agree with me on this

You can complain, but those in Town Hall don't care, so your complaints will fall on deaf ears.

  15. I recently read an add in the Observer that read: TOWN OF HARRISON SEEKS CLASS ONE SPECIAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS for 2 to 4 class one special law enforcement officers.  a month or so before the add came out I was told by a couple of police officers that the MAYOR picked two guys to be class one officers. So they were already picked before this add came out,  their names are DW which has many family members working for the town already, and the gentleman that presently works on the bridge don't recall his name.  SO WHY DOES THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL PUT THIS ADD IN THE PAPER WHEN THEY ALREADY KNOW WHO THEY ARE GOING TO HIRE?  ARE WE THAT STUPID? Mayor just because the Secretary tells you who to hire you have your own mind don't you?  think with your head not your p----.

For legal purposes (and to cover their asses) it has to be published.

  16. Oh, come on Mr. Harrison,  This stadium is going to be the "centerpiece" of the redevelopment. It will be the "magnet" that draws "high end"  retailers and commercial developers to beautifulful downtown Harrison. You need to have more confidence in our mayor and council to lead us to the promised land of lower taxes.

Sorry, 2smart4u. You're right, I need some confidence in my mayor and councilmen. I hope we can get some high end retailers like Wal-Mart and K-Mart and all those wonderful stores for our beautiful downtown. I cannot WAIT until it's all built so I can go down there and walk along the beautiful Passaic River.

Wake up guys! This plan will bring Harrison DOWN.
