For most children, the SAT is the most important exam they'll take in their lives. Can you give me a more significant test score from NJ or Kearny students that we can point to showing we're at or near the top in excellence?

If you are comparing yourself to lawyers and doctors, you will have no sympathy from the public at large. What college professionals are you comparing yourself to?

Check out todays Bergen Record if you want to see where New Jersey's kids rank. There are many benchmark tests that children take long before they get to the SAT. If they're not doing well on those tests they may as well not bother with the SAT.

Kearny students that do make it to the SAT are performing, as a whole, mediocrely. That's the best indicator of how the previous 11 years of education went for the SAT-takers. I tremble to think how the non-SAT-takers are doing.

I did check test scores. NJ is in the top 3 of per pupil expenditure in the country but only 36th (yes 36th) in the country for average SAT score. That's unacceptable:

The highest spending state, Vermont, is rated 30th in SAT scores nationwide. The lowest spending state, Utah, gets higher SAT scores from their students and is ranked 20th above Vermont. Far less money, higher score. The Best State (highest) SAT score comes from Iowa yet their spending of $9,977 per student is right in the middle at 25th and right at the national average of spending. The Worst State Sat score comes from Maine yet it spends the 5th most money in the nation.

Bottom line, what we're doing can be done with a lot less money:

In 1980, the voters in Massachusetts adopted a similar proposition, and the results were striking. While in 1977 Massachusetts had the 3rd highest property tax burden, by 2005 it had dropped to 33rd place.

Some will say this will affect the quality of children’s education. This is absolutely wrong. Massachusetts has accomplished this astonishing drop in property taxes while maintaining the Number One K-12 achievement in America.

one only needs to look at the January BOE minutes. In those minutes the Degesere BOE and his dancing CLOWNS approved a re-districting plan for the Kearny.

If you read the minutes you will see the plan calls for a re-districting plan to include K-5, 6-8 and 9-12.

For a group of elected officals not to notice that Kearny doesn't have a 6-8 schools system is absurd and a slap in all our faces about having no knowledge of a MIDDLE SCHOOL.

6-8 and a new office purchased for 1 Million dollars not including the removal of the old gas tanks and renovation of Degesres Taj Mahal will surely top 2 million when all is said and done.

The nerve of this BOE to ask taxpayers to pay for their misuse, mistrust and abuse of taxpayer money is CRIMINAL.
