  1. More likely you'll see the HPD being disbanded and the Kearny PD expanding to take over law enforcement in Harrison. Expanding Kearny's patrol area by one square mile is very doable by hiring 15-20 new cops.

Harrison could fund this expansion and still save 2+ million annually.

With the closely built homes in Harrison, there will always be the need for a professional fire/ems

department so don't expect any changes there.

You could apply the same thought to the HFD. Merge with the KFD and keep the line firefighters and officers. You wouldn't need the Chief's/Traning Officer/Admin Staff and that would save about a 850K right there (in salary and benefits).

Both departments are always responding to each others districts anyway.

  2. I asked you guys to refrain from the abusive comments and I would do likewise. I will not respond to that latest insult with unkind words in the respect that I hope it did not come from the KFD. My offer stands. I am true to my word. If a member of your organization cannot control themself(s), then we will resume the bantar.

When you post under guest there is no paper trail to prove people are insulting you. Create an account name that way they know it's "you" that are posting and at least you have proof that person was insulting "you".

Also the same goes for the people insulting you. There is no paper trail as to who they are. They could be anyone. That the problem when you post as a guest. At least I know i'm the only person using my account and all my posts are accounted for.

  3. A career? It's a job. FF do not get promoted for doing anything special, just a manipulated bogus civil service test. The jump from ff to captain is over $20,000.00. Nice raise for year round incompetence then just getiing "lucky" on a not needed promotional exam.

I believe also that we should start Lt. spots in both Harrison and Kearny. Reduce the number of Captains and replace some with lower ranking and paid Lt.'s.

I got plenty of issues with the way civil service works. It's really not a fair system but it's what we have. (for now)

  4. I would rather have the 3 E. Newark volunteers firefighters (much love to the E. Newark volunters, at least they have guts) putting out a fire rather than 3 Harrison and 3 Kearny fireman any day of the week. The paid jokes are too afraid of getting hurt. Wittle babies.............maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaameeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I would rather have those 9 firefighters doing the job together than any of them alone.

  5. If you do the math $5 million for 42 men a year thats what it comes out to. Way is that hard to believe. You are nothing but money sucking postules under the giuse of glorifired ambulance drivers. How many fires again in 2011. No guessing this time, it's zero. Start a garbage can fire for Christs sakes so you have something like the almost 300 fires two years ago. Every engine can respond with the oxygen tanks and full costume. The state will accept that in your statistics as one person wrote, it doesn't have to be a structure fire. Step on a lit cigarette or something to pad the statistics by calling it a fire. Do something at least. Does watching Backdraft, Rescue me, or The Toweing Inferno count in these statistics? Report a 50 year old war story or say you saw a fire in the Gulf War, one of them might sneak thru. How about ab barbecur fire for yourselves. That might count too. Please tell me these top secret fire prevention methods so I can be safe too. I don't want a garbage fire on the outside of my house. Still no action. Hush little babies don't you cry.............

Yeah thats a great way to come up with average salary. Let's take the whole budget and divide by the amount of people. Even Harrison High would have prepared you better than that. You must of failed out.

Do you even take yourself seriously at this point? Did you even bother to read what you wrote. My goodness I love coming here and getting a good laugh.

  6. February 20, 2011 and still not a stitch of work from the $5 million dollar fire department. Money to pay for out of towners to keep the residents down. Nice.

While I personally think firefighters should have to live inside a 15/20 minute bubble for recall purposes and bird dog duties... what good are you when you leave an hour + away and are needed.

It's important for Harrison to have a career Department. The system works just find right now. Eventually a merge with Kearny might make sense to save on chief salaries.

  7. What does a criminal look like? If you can spot a criminal instead of an honest citizen just by their appearance and clothes they wear you are one amazing cop. That has several names. Racial profiling is one of them. Violation of civil rights is another. Whats your probable cause for stopping these people? You didn't like the way they looked. Fruits of the poisonous tree; never hold up in court. How can you have proactive patrol when the town was recently going to lay you off. It doesn't seem to afford that luxury working with a skeleton crew. Make sure you go home safe your first priority. Take care of your family. The town is going to propose laying you off again next year anyway and this time you may not be able to stop it. You are reactive at best and its not your fault, its purposefull disbursement of the towns funds to nepotism jobs, patronage, Board of Education and so on that has limited your diligence, not you. The KFD is totally reactive. Did they dig out the hydrants when they were snow covered for the peoples safety? Of course not. It was cold outside. Most officers don't have your aggressive attitude and what is it going to get you. A complaint signed against you, someone suing you, and a lay-off at the end of the year. Stay safe young man.

I saw them digging out hydrants on Midland Ave, I assume they did others as well.

  8. I hear many years ago that the towns NJ had to take out the fire poles in the frat houses because so many ladies were going out on disability because they hurt their little ankles sliding down the poles. How traumatic that must have been. The sheer danger involved in going down on that pole (LOL)is so brave. I, duh, learned a new ff term today. Its supposedly the oxygen tank on their back called a Scott pack or more in hip fashion called a Scotty. Putting on a scotty and knocking down a backdraft. Damn! Wow! What a thrill! Yawn......

Actually they didn't take the poles out of any fire houses. They just mandated that new firehouse construction would not contain any.

  9. Yes we were in West Hudson Park both Saturday and Sunday doing ice rescue drills along with Harrison, (it was actually their drill and equipment) and East Newark FD. The trainers were State Police Marine Unit Officers.

There was another training session this past Friday. Harrison, Kearny and East Newark attended. Each group certified a number of firefighters. Fantastic to see our West Hudson Fire Departmets training together.

East Newark has a number of pictures and videos on their facebook page. Just search East Newark Fire Department.

  10. Will the fireboy or his wife that keeps boring us with this engine #1, ladder #2, just shut up. The people want a volunteer FD in Harrison. That is abundantly clear. Years ago when Mr. Higgins was on the council, they both said at a meeting that there will always be a paid HFD no matter whar happens. The Mayor has not changed his mind. Hr adores them like a couple adores their their first born child. They serve as some twisted type of erotic stimulation for him. Harrison CANNOT AFFORD A PAID FIRE DEPT. WITH DRUGGED OUT JUNKIES COMING TO YOUR RESCUE.

Harrison doesn't have a Ladder #2. They have a Ladder #1, Kearny has a Tower #2 and East Newark has a Ladder #2.

How come the people that really want to be volunteer firefighter haven't filled up East Newark's Department. At last check they were still under capacity. (And that's 3 towns eligible)

  11. You want to get rid of the Police Department and you think I need psychological help. Go right ahead and do it. There is no doubt in my mind that Mayor McDonough would love to do that and would actually be stupid enough do try it with some jerkoff saying on here that fires go up in a bad economy, not crime. When has anyone from the Harrison Fire Dept. EVER ran into a burning building where 3 people are dying? NEVER. You gotta stop watching that "Backdraft" DVD because it is frying your brain. I don't think that any HFD clown would have the guts to run into a building to put out a candle. How many perilous blazing buildings have the HFD ran into in January. If you say "NONE," you are correct. The only thing they did since 2011 started is a few common ambulance rides. Wow, how dangerous and exciting! What I have noticed is that crime, some violent crimes at that, have increased lately. When someone is holding a gun to your head a fireman can respond and say, "Stop, or I'll squirt water on you." If you think that in any remote part of this world that a fire dept. is needed more than Police Dept. I suggest you move there. This way anyone who feels like it can beat, rob, rape. or kill a member of your family, but then you can go to the hospital or cemetary holding your head high and and say, "Hey, it happens, but at least we have a paid Fire Department." You gotta be the dumbest asshole on the face of the earth, but what more can you expect from a G.E.D.(Good Enough Diploma") fireman. You mistakenly have a huge misconception of your own self importance. I hope and pray you don't have a wife and any kids living with and your "Backdraft and Rescue Me" DVD collection and walking around the house in your full firemans costume because it must be a house of horrors. Your IQ gotta be around 60 at best. Your own frat brothers have to try and find out what asshole sleeping next to them would make such a suggestion and refuse to collect welfare with you. OMG, someone please save us from these deranged babies!!! That post was the single most idiotic ranting I have ever read.

I was the one who said fires go up in a bad economy. That is true. You added the second part yourself. You will never find on this site a post from me saying crime does not go up in a bad economy. Stop trying misrepresent what I said. Of course crime goes up. Every time you post that I will post my rebuttal setting the record straight. Once again, I dare you to go back and find that post. You can't, you won't, it never happened. I'm starting to think I should copy and paste this post into Microsoft Word so I can easily access it next time you attempt to claim I said crime does not go up in a bad economy.

Crimes go up, fires go up. It's a fact.

I do agree with you on one thing. That was an idiotic post. Getting rid of a police department, it really can't get much crazier than that.

  12. some questions,

I am concerned about the fire and EMS systems and the problems they face, as i have family in Kearny. I have some knowlege in this area and would like to help but don t actually know where the problem is. Lets start with EMS. 1 I know they are broke and can t support themselves. here are the questions, first, who has the right to bill? the town or the ambulance company? second, how many calls do they run a year and last if anyone knows the re imbursement rate.

    Thanks,

The company bills the insurance company. The insurance company (as long as they have it) will pay a set fee usually around 500 bucks. If the person doesn't have insurance they will bill the individual but that person isn't hunted down for the money. Not sure how many calls they run a year I would imagine 2750-3250 or so.

  13. Has the mayor ever considered getting rid of the PD ?? I don't think you could ever get enough reliable volunteers to man the FD and EMS full time, and the last thing you want is a serious fire with people dying and 3 volunteers show up.

But getting rid of the PD would be doable. 4 to 5 million would be saved, pay Kearny 2 million to cover Harrison, they could hire 10 -15 cops to improve their numbers without any expense to their taxpayers. Harrison saves 2-3 million, Kearny makes money, everyone's happy.

Harrison should sell an Engine. They have 3 only really use 1.

  14. Yes, I do get the picture, and thanx for pointing out that I cursed so much. Sometimes in life, thats the only language some people can understand, and when it comes to the fireboys threats and violence are their primary defense in almost every situation, like drug testing. As to clarify, my message was to the HFD. I was saying in different words that every organization and some people think they are irrepaceable. Thats a bad misconception have. They are arrogant, overpaid for a part time job, and the town simply cannot afford them. What is the town gonna do next year when every financial analyst I hear or article I read, or the State of Hudson County address given by the County Executive, all say that Hudson County is going to be MUCH worse off next year. It took Harrison a 24% property tax raise, higher water bils, and higher sewer bills just to meet payroll and to survive. That 24% property tax penalty on the residents was to pay bills left over from last year. Next year, when they can only raise taxes 2 1/2%, what then? Garbage pick-up once a month, terminated fireboys, terminated Police Officers, terminated jobs everywhere except the nepotism and patronage jobs. Harrison should just merge with Newark, not E. Newark , right now. Going to a volunteer fire Dept. starting ASAP will give the town an extra $5 million dollars a year, thats an obscene amount of cash paid only in salaries to 42 people (40 who live out of town). Its about $119,000.00/person just for glorified ambulance drivers. That $5 million dollars could stabilize the town and prepare it for the future, instead of doom it to the future for the residents. Who is going to be ignorant enough to move to or start a business in Harrison? If you want to leave, who's going to stupid enough to but your house except at a fire sale price. That was my point. Gracias.

If you merged with Newark you would not be able to have a volunteer FD as you would now be part of Newark and they would never have volunteers. Please come up with a new suggestion and post that this one is impossible.

  15. Wow, that's a great suggestion! We should make you DPW Superintendent, or better yet, run for council. Your response is typical of a lot of the uneducated people like yourself who do nothing on this board except cry and complain, but can't seem to come up with better solutions. Privatize? LMAO, your taxes would go through the roof. Come back when you can make a constructive comment or suggestion, other then that, get your shovel, cause I'm going to plow in your driveway again midweek when we get another big one.

Since you work for the DPW maybe you can fill some of us in on whats true and whats no true.

Did the town really get rid of the trucks that would allow you to transport snow to like Gunnel Oval or some other suitable location?

Why doesn't the town allow a few guys to just drive around while most people are at working and push the snow on blocks into a few parking spots?

  16. That's a lie, every one of those streets are passable. We'd love nothing more then to open them curb to curb. Unfortunately, the street supervisor tells us not to because people complain that their driveways get plowed in or we hit their trash cans that they leave in the street. Can't have your cake and eat it.

4 to 8 more coming tomorrow! Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

If they leave cans in the street that is their own fault, by all means plow that away also!

  17. Yes I do...so tell me, what would you have done differently with 24 inches of snow and hundreds of idiots who left their cars stranded on town streets? Easy to complain, tell us how you would have handled it differently.

It wasn't the owners fault for leaving the cars, the town refused to enforce it until the next day. The town should have made the phone calls and police announcements before or at the beginning of the storm. They should have then towed any left.

I don't believe the DPW workers themselves were at fault more the administration.

  18. Random testing is in every town, state, and federal employers right. But the people in charge are to afraid to pull that trigger, whether its political, personal, or there own asses there trying to protect. The FD has problems, the BOE has problems, and the Housing authority has problems. Lets get a full scale test, these are people we entrust our lives, safety, kids, and belongings too. Let's clean it up

Why doesn't someone who thinks it's such a huge issue start a petition and go around town collecting signatures. Hey if you get the right permits you could probably set up a table near town hall or something. Then submit it. If you have a large large petition it would put pressure on the powers that be. Or you could just sit behind your keyboard complaining and nothing will ever happen.

Personally I don't think it's an issue with these guys. But hey who knows. I am for random drug testing of all emergency response people. There saftey is in our hands. But I think it's enough of an issue myself to get out and do this, but the way some people post it must be. Get out and get it done then!

  19. You G.E.D. ( if you are lucky) firemen don't know how to read, do you. YOU SAID that the KFD trains EVERYDAY. From what I see, its more like once a month. Who's the training officer again. Oh, thats right, you didn't mention one. You lied to the public again. You don't train Everyday, do you?

If it's not everyday it's certainly more then less. I hear them training all the time. Often the group together at another fire house and do something in doors. Or they go out doors. Many different forms of training.

  20. How much was sank into the brand new radio system? I heard quite a bit. Also explain to me why ********* was working on the project. Does one of the HPD cops own them?

Why did you block out the Company "Pinnacle" for content? Explain how that is inappropriate. I saw their trucks outside the police station. Here is a link to their website.

    Pinnacle Wireless Communication

[And here is the press release regarding Harrison's system.]

  21. Since the observer doesn't post crimes in Harrison, I'm starting here and feel free to add to it.

    1/12/11 - Quik Chek robbed.

1/19/11 - car stolen from Jersey Street between S. 3rd and Frank E Rodgers Blvd.

Quick check being robbed was front page. I didn't read the whole thing but considering the stolen car happened today I assume they didn't publish it yesterday.

  22. You are so right. Elm Street from Midland to the Pike is a real joke. Just enough room for two cars to pass but if a bus comes along forget about it.

Today, Wed., January 19th, it was around 40 degrees--why were the town workers riding around in their trucks with the plows up, not doing something to get rid of the snow/ice? Most of the stuff was soft from the warm weather and the rain and nothing was being done. The corners are a mess through out the town but I did notice that on Saturday, our workers were diging out the corners by St. Stephen's Church and the other two Protestant churchs by Laurel Avenue--a little time and a half? That kind of work should be done every day without OT to get the corners cleaned up at the very least.

Elm Street guy how can that poster be "so right" you informed me you thought the DPW guys did a great job during the first storm in another section on the Kearny Forum. Now you are agreeing the first storm they didn't do such a great job, what made you change your mind?

  23. You are so naive that you think hiring 4 new cops is the answer to the already started and increasing crime wave. It's just hard to believe that anyone is so in the dark. New technology is credit for preventing so many crimes in modern times than years ago. The problem is, moron, that Harrison has none and cannot afford any due to intentional poor fiscal management. Why arent't you concerned that a police officer wired and installed the current phone, dispatching, and 911 system instead of a licensed company because the Mayor refused to spend any money on the police because he hates them but has compromised public safety at the worst level I have ever seen. If you call and something is not routed correctly, dispatched properly, or even makes it to the system what the hell would having 100 cops do? A licensed company was never even called in to check if it was done right. Having an improperly installed communication system will be some poor souls undoing not too far in the distance. Why not just go to a pedophile convention and ask them to watch your kids. Thats how important and irresponsible this situation is. You just don't get, do you?

How much was sank into the brand new radio system? I heard quite a bit. Also explain to me why ********* was working on the project. Does one of the HPD cops own them?

  24. Notice that the verbiage has changed from 250-300 fires to 250-300 CALLS. If thats not throwing up the white flag I don't know what is. As to the janitor and patrol duties, you can probably contact McDonough at the end of the month after he is fired from Passaic Valley Shit Factory. Glory days gone by....with him and **** at the wheel.

No they have over 1100 "calls" a year. 250-300 is the average that have some sort of FIRE involved ranging anywhere from a garbage can to a brush fire to a house fire.

I've explained this stat about 25 times on this forum already. Are you guys really that dense that you haven't understood it yet?
