Dear Kearnyites,

We are having a "taxed enough already" meeting at the LCCC on Wednesday June 23rd at 7:30 PM. All persons interested in getting involved with this movement are asked to attend and voice your opinion. For too long now, Kearny has been a one party town. We need to have our elected officials be responsive to us. Just look at the wasteful spending going on in town. Did we really need a clerk in the town clerks office when we already have three women in there? I think not. For too long many of you have voiced your opinion to me but have not gotten the courage up to attend a meeting and question our officials. That ends now. Please join with me and a bunch of friends to try and take our town back.

Thank you,

John Leadbeater

Good for you, John. Grassroots is the start of every successful change in our lives. I hope you get a great turnout. (I work nights, or I'd be there.) I look forward to hearing what the outcome is.

The outcome will be the same as it was the last time Leadbeater ran for mayor. He doesn't have any real solutions, the people knew it and he lost in a landslide. The meeting will be another whine and complain session because that's all Leadbeater has to offer.

Well we have ONE step in the right Direction...Despite the Denials by the Toadies and Sycophants on this Board, Joe "Papa Smurf' D'Arco has left the roles of Kearny for the Greener Pastures of Bergen County, to Administer the Town of Paramus. Today is his Last Day. Now the REAL Question is who will take his place as Administrator??? Will it be the current CFO? of, whill it be, at least as an interim choice, the head of our Building and Code Department??????? Only time will tell. Actually, since we're on the subject, The position of Town Administrator was started under Leo vartan, on the premise that since the Mayor and council were actually part-time employyees, there needed to be a full-time administrative leader for the Town. One would think, since the Mayors position is now FULL-TIME, that the Position (With it's attendant salary, benefit package and pension) should be dissolved. If Mr Santos wants to be a full-time Mayor, then he should Do the Job.

Where is this meeting being held? I can spread the word to our fellow Kearnyites.

Mayor's salary under Leo Vartan - $7,500.

Mayor's salary under Al Santos - $7,500

Papa Smurf can pin down Fred Flinstone in a one-on-one.

Dear John,

You want to lead a tax revolt, really?? Aren't you receiving a monthly government disability retirement pension from the Port Authority of NY and NJ? If you're living off of the system, how can you criticize it with any credibility?

Truly yours,

Isn’t’ that what he worked towards??? Isn’t that his RIGHT! Don’t be haten…

Unless your Santos or one of the other out for themselves council you would want to fight the tax rapes that are taking place here in Kearny

Thinking Kearnyite,

I will be glad to discuss MY medical disabilities with you. Anyone who knows me, knows what hell I have gone thru since I shattered my heal and ankle some 18 years ago. Never mind mentioning the loss of feelings in my hands and legs, which caused me to just fall at any time, from the herniated discs in my neck. Add in the two herniated discs in my back and loss of vision in my left eye. You should also know that I continued to work even after the medical professionals tried to get me to leave.

Living off the system is not what I am doing. For years I worked 2 and 3 jobs at a time and still coached three or four baseball teams. I have done plenty to be able to talk about YOUR new job at town hall, and how that is another case of pay to play. Just look at this weeks Kearny Journal. Did I not tell everyone the taxes were going through the roof AGAIN. Blaming the police and fireman is a copout. Not putting money into the pension system was the problem. If that were done the taxes would have gone way up before and election and you and your friends would not have a job today. But then again you know that dont you? That would have gotten all your friends voted out of office last year.

PS. I signed my name to this, lets see if you are Women enough to sign yours next time. I venture to say you WILL NOT

Dear John,

Sounds like Thinking Kearnyite really hit the sweet spot. Yes, you are living off the taxpayer-paid system. Let's do basic math and basic fact review.

How much a year is the taxpayer PAYING you for your disability pension?

How many years did you work for PATH?

Where did your injury take place?

Why not take a different, ligth duty job with PATH instead of collecting the disability pension for the rest of your life?

How did you manage your real estate business in Wildwood with your "disability"?

Truly yours,

Thinking Kearnyite

Who do you think pays for that "right"? Do you think it falls from the sky?

Or are you arguing the equivalent of "Taxes are bad except when they are spent in a check that's made payable to John Leadbeater"?

That's the main reason why New Jersey is going bankrupt. Taxpayers can't afford the pension benefits that government employees make off the system. Railroads are the biggest abusers. The LIRR and the PATH notorious. Having John Leadbeater wants to lead the Tea Party in Kearny is like having Sarah Palin saying she's become a Socialist.

The idea of a tax revolt is great because there is a need to counter the serious political imbalance that exists in Kearny; regretfully, with the Santos Democrats in full control any opposition is tolerated on the surface (in public – in private the Mayor can be rather disdainful), the opposition is given a superficial hearing (in public) and an even shallower response, and then, when all is said and done, the Council does what Santos wants. Problem is, with no opposition on the Town Council, the Mayor's puppets will continue to adopt any Resolution he cares to introduce.

The people of Kearny need to remove the incumbents from office, which is difficult because year after year they run seemingly unopposed. Well, despite the perennial situation, we can make a difference this year; if there is no opposition to a Council seat in your Ward, you have the option to cast a “write-in” vote. The key here to make it effective and to do that everyone within a given Ward has to write-in the same name.

The other option is to support, form or resurrect another political party in Kearny, the core of which can be formed from the participants of the tax revolt. Whether supporting and rebuilding a Republican Party in Kearny or creating a new, local, grass roots organization, the time has come to wrestle control of the Town Council from Santos and his minions.

Write-in campaign, really?? When's the last time that actually won an election in November??

A new party, really???, that's even more unlikely. The party would be over on day one when there's no agreement on a common platform.

Sounds like you've got a lot of sour grapes for Santos. Here's my advice; since you seem to know what ails the Town and what's wrong with the Mayor and Council, why not go to a Council meeting and challenge him directly during the public portion of the meeting? (Cue the violins, here comes the whine about 'not having the time' or 'the Mayor is too good with words".) I'm betting you won't do it just like you didn't do it each time you complained previously. I'm guessing that's because of your relationship with the Town.

Santos isn't running in this elections cycle, and even if he were, there are no sour grapes. I prefer the fiddle rather than the violin, and frankly, isn't Santos playing the lyre as Kearny continues to burn? And my relationship with the Town is non-existent, so your point is?

A write-in campaign, indeed, if nothing else it demostrates the strength of democracy, not the autocracy we see with Santos and the his puppets. It may not win an election, but it is a way for the people of Kearny to express their opposition to the status quo, the ingrained Democratic politics that is Kearny, and the misrepresentation that is reflective of the Town.

Actually, one-party politics in Kearny needs to come to an end, and if a write-in campaign or another vehicle can be a first step in that direction, I believe it is you who should cease whinning and revisit the hollow "words" of the Mayor.

You're all 'huff and puff' but no backbone. The epitome of democracy in action is the town hall meeting. You should go to a Kearny council meeting and challenge the mayor and council. But like Sour Grape Spotter said, you won't. Instead, you tell others to engage in futile exercises of creating a new party and writing in a candidate.

If the town is burning, engage in democracy and give your reasons at a council meeting.

If there is misrepresentation by town officials, engage in democracy by pointing it out at a council meeting.

I think Sour Grape Spotter is right, you're connected to the Town (past or present, directly or through a family member). That's why you won't go.

Develop a backbone. And grow a set of you know what.

Still no response

About 35

Someone at the bar told me there were 3 (yes, only 3) Kearny people at the meeting. I think the 3 included Leadbeater.
