  2. According to Member AMG The Kearny Recreation Street Hockey program is having an equipment drive on Sat January 3rd from 9am-1pm. Please come down and check out our new rink at Passaic and Afton and donate any equipment which you are not using anymore. (No Skates Please)

  6. Harrison Fest Committee, Inc., a non profit community group founded by Harrison Councilman Anselmo Millan, will hold its annual holiday party for disadvantaged children in Holy Cross Church in Harrison. Families and their children who reside in Harrison are provided invitations by social service organizations to attend the party. Mass at 2 pm. Holiday Party immediately following the mass. Educational entertainment provided by Andy the Clown. Santa Claus will provided all children in attendance with an age appropriate gift. Volunteers from the Harrison Fest Committe, Inc. will be present to assist in food preparation and with distribution of gifts by Santa Claus. Local restaurants and businesses provide food for the party. The party is an annual event.
  7. Santa Claus will visit the Harrison Public Library on Saturday, Dec. 20 between the hours of 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Santa will also be available for pictures. Bring your library card, check out a book and you will receive a free picture.

NJ Transit Public Meeting Lower Boonton Line Service Cessation Please Note This Meeting Was Postponed Until January On Thursday, December 18, 2003, NJ Transit will host a three hour public meeting from 6 pm to 9 pm at Kearny High School, 336 Devon Street, Kearny. The meeting is being held to obtain public comment regarding the cessation of rail passenger service to the Benson Street Station in Glen Ridge, the Rowe Street Station in Bloomfield, and the Arlington Station in Kearny as a result of the opening of the Montclair Connection. Written comments can be received at the site on December 18, 2003 between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

  19. On December , the Kearny Elks will be holding a Memorial Service for all deceased members at 2 p.m. Cake and coffee to follow. The Kearny Elks is located at 601 Elm Street, Kearny.

  21. The tree-lighting ceremony scheduled for Dec. 4 between 4:30 and 6 p.m. will include entertainers, vendors and a visit from Santa. The tree, which came from Muncy, Pa., is several feet taller than the one standing in New York's Rockefeller Center. It was hoisted into place Wednesday and will be decorated with 20,000 lights. An 86-foot Norwegian spruce tree hung with thousands of lights will tower over Military Park this holiday season as the city holds its first tree-lighting celebration since 2000. Cross over the Bridge Street Bridge and go up to Broad Street and make a left. Military Park is located between Broad Street and Park Place. Parking is available in the Military Park Parking Deck.

  23. The Kearny Public Library Book Discussion Group will meet Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. in the Board of Trustees Room. At this meeting, the last one in 2003, the book to be discussed will be "Five Finger Discount" by Helene Stapinski. Stapinski started her career by writing for The Jersey Journal and went on to write for The New York Times and "People." All are invited to attend.
