  5. Kearny High School's Project Graduation Committee 2004 will hold its next meeting Tuesday, at 7:30 p.m. in the Board of Education office, 100 Davis Ave. Committee members will judge the annual T-shirt contest. The winning T-shirt design will be used to create this year's T-shirt which will be given to all KHS 2004 graduates attending this year's alcohol- and drug-free celebration. This year's fund-raisers will also be discussed. The next fund-raiser on March 12 will be the annual basketball games between the Kearny school district teachers and the KHS senior class; and the Kearny Police Department PBA and the Kearny Fire Department FMBA.

  7. The Harrison Competition Cheerleaders' Parents and Friends Association will sponsor a "tricky tray" auction January 30 in the basement of Holy Cross Church. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the starting time is 7:30 p.m. Donation is $5 and coffee, tea and cake will be served.   8. Glasslight Theatre Company will be offering FREE sample acting classes as follows: Thursday, January 29 "Acting I" ages 10-12 (5:30pm - 6:45pm) and "Improv for Adults" 18+ (7:00pm - 8:30pm). The classes will be held at Sacred Heart School, 22 Wilson Ave., Kearny. Space is limited, so call 212.946.6426 to reserve a spot.   9. Literacy Volunteers of America-West Hudson is seeking volunteers to train as tutors for its Basic Literacy program. An orientation session will be held January 28th at the Kearny Branch Library, 759 Kearny Avenue. Training sessions will be held the following two Saturdays, January 31 and February 7. Following training tutors will be matched with adults who wish to improve their reading and writing skills. Tutors are asked to commit to two hours per week. For more Information call (201) 998-3336

The Kearny Public Library, 318 Kearny Avenue, is sponsoring a program on Table Settigns, Tea Serving and Napkin Folding on January 22 at 7 p.m. The program which will be held in the assembly room of the library, will be presented by Irene Greenhalgh, known for her Victorian Tea Party held in the spring at Grace United Methodist Church in Kearny.

  22. Kearny Branch Library, 759 Kearny Avenue, Family Story time will begin January 15 from 10:30 am to 11:00 am. Classes will conitue through April 1. The classes are for 3 to 5 year olds, and 2 1/2 year olds may attend if they can sit. Children will sing, listen to stories and play games. A parent must remain in the room. Registration will be held at the Branch Library.
  23. At the Kearny Main Library, 318 Kearny Avenue, winter story times will begin on January 13 from 10:45 am to 11:15 a.m. There will be 12 weeks of classes every week until the end of March. Classes will inlcude storeis, songs and games geared to preschool age children who want to listen to stories. Parents will not attend the classes, but parents must remain in the building. Registration is required, and is ongoing in the Children's Room. Children should be at least 3 1/2 to be registered for this class.
  24. Trinity Episcopal Church, 575 Kearny Avenue will hold a flea market on Saturday, January 10, 2003 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A limited nubmer of tables are still available at a cost of $10 each or two for $15. For more information, call the church office at (201) 991-5894.
