Guest Foom
Dear God: Why didn't you save the school children at ....... ? Sincerely, Concerned Student horse poopy, really, why try to be so unbelievably simple minded? do you think God wants you to associate him with these thoughts 'o crap? an American in Texas
Dear Concerned, Your argument fails on two points. The first is that the Amish school was explicitly a private religious school, so the kinds of group prayers and devotionals I infer you would like to see were, in fact, being done. The second is that God is entirely welcome in any school, public or private, whose students choose to pray during the school day. No one will stop them. Teachers and staff are also free to pray as they will. The school staff can't specify or lead prayer for them as an exercise in organized devotion, however! We go to church for organized devotional activities, not the public schools, which are after all open to children of all faiths. There is absolutely no rational reason to imagine that failure to establish the Christian religion in our public schools was the proximate cause of these tragedies. Strife767
If you're going to copy/paste what appears to be a chain 'letter'/e-mail (EDIT: after googling it, yes, it is in fact a small part of a chain e-mail), at least have the decency to take the leading ">"s out so that it's not THAT obvious. You fail at plagiarism. Any God who was both omnibenevolent and omnipotent could and would prevent all of those tragic events. Also, your 'letter' suggests that humanity has the power to literally ban GOD from places. Isn't that a silly suggestion? Any theist would be insulted, I think, by the suggestion that the object of their worship can be pushed around so easily by his own creations. This is God we're talking about, right? P.S. The killer at Virginia Tech likened himself to Jesus Christ. Maybe, just maybe, the religious concept of martyrdom is a bit to blame for that tragedy? How ironic would that be, considering the original post? P.P.S. Also, God is "allowed" in any of the myriad private schools around (and in public schools too, as long as it's kept to personal prayer etc.). On top of that, the Amish school, second in that little list, where that massacre occurred was NOT a public school--it was a private, religious school. So what excuse would you assign God in that case, hm? He certainly was "allowed" there, so why didn't he prevent that horrific event? P.P.P.S. To exploit those horrific events and turn them into a petty attack on the separation of church and state is truly despicable. You should be ashamed of yourself for parroting this shit so shamelessly--this post is incredibly heartless to its core.

The worst thing about it is that people who say they believe in God actually think this makes an intelligent and important point. Consider the following, which I'll call stupid fallacies, all of which are implicit in the above. Assume the writer's assumption about the existence of "God." Stupid Fallacy # 1: God would punish children for the political and judicial decisions of adults, even assuming those decisions to be wrong. Stupid Fallacy # 2: God was somehow kept out of the Amish school in Pennsylvania. Stupid Fallacy # 3: God can be kept out of any school where many or most of the students believe in God. Stupid Fallacy # 4: God would view respect for different religious beliefs, as expressed by church-state separation, as a reason to allow innocent children to be killed and maimed. Stupid Fallacy # 5: Preventing the state from promoting a particular religion is the same thing is keeping God out of school. It's just scary how eager some people are to convert their own little prejudices and their own lack of understanding into the word of God. All this sort of thing feeds is their own insecurity, and they don't even know it.
Bern
With thinkers like concerned, no wonder our country has problems. And to think, if of age, concerned can vote just like me. I heard God can go wherever He wants and do whatever He wants. Maybe concerned has secret information which limits God's access. So assuming God can do anything, is concerned stating that God allows these atrocities simply because we do not allow publicly led prayers? Is God having a little fit of pique - "You do not have public prayer in worship to Me, therefore I will not go into your schools and protect your children". That's not nice. Guest Steve_C
She mentioned the AMISH SCHOOL! It's AMISH! You think they don't let "god" into an Amish school??? Idjit. Oh god, if you loved man so much why did you let him invent gun powder??? There is no god. Stop trying to blame the world's problems on people who don't follow him. Man is the problem. Maybe if we had a better mental health care system, the loonies that go on shooting sprees could be stopped befire they bought guns. And... why haven't we banned handguns already?
