WilliamK
Christopher Buckley, son of William F. Buckley, Columnist for National Review, former speechwriter for George H. W. Bush, supporter of John McCain during the primaries and still having some admiration for the man, has endorsed Barack Obama. He announces, and explains, his decision here: http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-sto...-case-for-obama It's an interesting and very thoughtful article, regardless of whether you agree with him or not. With the ugly turn McCain's campaign has taken, coupled with his faulty economic ideas and increasingly obvious poor judgment in choosing his running mate, I expect to see more intelligent and conscientious conservatives crossing over in the coming weeks. Maybe not many high visibility ones like this, but the effect will show up in the polls and in the voting booths on election day. They won't be turning into Democrats, but they will recognize that John McCain has lost his bearing and that Barack Obama, even if out of alignment with some of their ideals, is the better candidate for President. Bern
I'm not surprised. Its now very obvious that McCain does not have the competency to run the country. After all, if you can't run a campaign, how can you run the country. His organization and leadership skills are completely over-matched by Obama I quote the arch conservative William Kristol It’s time for John McCain to fire his campaign. He has nothing to lose. His campaign is totally overmatched by Obama’s. The Obama team is well organized, flush with resources, and the candidate and the campaign are in sync. The McCain campaign, once merely problematic, is now close to being out-and-out dysfunctional. Its combination of strategic incoherence and operational incompetence has become toxic. If the race continues over the next three weeks to be a conventional one, McCain is doomed. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/13/opinion/...agewanted=print This should give us a hint of the type of administration we will get if McCain becomes president. Bern
After seeing the antics of the Republicans over this economic crisis, the slimy swift boating of Obama over his association with Ayers and other assorted so-called terrorists, the Palin hate rallies, I'm now convinced that the Republicans will never change. They will always appeal to the basest instincts, go to the lowest common denominator. I'm now hoping that Obama will win the presidency by a large margin (so we don't have to listen to the Obama did not get a real mandate crap from neocon Republicans) and that the Democrats will get at least 60 seats in the Senate. Cut out the obstruction by letting the Democrats have absolute control of the executive and legislative branches and see if they produce. The Republicans had their run. And we know what that got us. Selective memory seems to be a trait of the Loony Left, every one of you have this very odd form of amnesia. Bern, let me refresh your memory. The Dems have been in charge of Congress for the last two years. Funny how the economy started going bad when the Dems took over. Does Barney Frank and Chris Dodd sound familiar, they were in charge of Fanny and Freddie. It was the Dems that pressured them into making risky loans to unqualified buyers (to fullfill the democratic dream of home ownership for everyone). High oil prices ? It's the Dems that have blocked off-shore drilling, nuclear power plants and drilling in ANWAR. You're right about one thing, the Republicans will never change. We don't drink Kool-Aid, we don't believe in a socialist nanny-state. We do believe in personal responsibility and we aren't afraid of hard work to get ahead. Paul praises William Ayres as being "rehabilitated" and the "Citizen of the Year". We think he should be rotting away in prison. Yes, the Defeatocrats may win next month and they may have complete control of Congress too. I can't even imagine how bad things will get if that happens. Obama has said he will depend on Joe Biden for many decisions, and this is a guy that has problems counting past 4. Let's spend $100,000 a year to keep Ayres in a prison instead of allowing him to continue to earn a living and pay his taxes. As for Fannie and Freddie, I suggest the following links. http://www.allbusiness.com/government/532756-1.html “Throughout the bill's mark-up in committee, members from both parties repeatedly expressed how ‘close’ each side was in its desire to move the bill. However, the devil in the details was Fannie and Freddie's $1.5 trillion mortgage portfolio investment holdings.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fannie_Mae http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...60902626_2.html In 2004, “President Bush's HUD ratcheted up the main affordable-housing goal over the next four years, from 50 percent to 56 percent. John C. Weicher, then an assistant HUD secretary, said the institutions lagged behind even the private market and ‘must do more.’” http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A...anguage=printer http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa37...n21185496/pg_12 http://www.accessmylibrary.com/coms2/summary_0286-777054_ITM http://wizbangblue.com/2008/09/22/2-millio...eme-exposed.php http://www.motherjones.com/mojoblog/archiv...ie_freddie.html http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/22/us/politics/22mccain.html http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-oew...,0,225574.story http://www.americanprogress.org/issues/2008/09/cra.html http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/24/p...y_n_129078.html Instead of swallowing the spin and the lies from the radical right, people should do their own research and get all the facts. (3 letters; J-O-B-S) That's odd-you didn't disagree with Bern here: http://forums.kearnyontheweb.com/index.php...ost&p=90634 or here: http://forums.kearnyontheweb.com/index.php...ost&p=90224 or here: http://forums.kearnyontheweb.com/index.php...ost&p=90242 or here: http://forums.kearnyontheweb.com/index.php...ost&p=90097 or here: http://forums.kearnyontheweb.com/index.php...ost&p=90241 Shall I go on? Clearly Loony Left is simply a descriptor for anyone who disagrees with your far-right extremism.
