  1. Mr. P, I don't go to KHS but I have a lot of friends who do and they all say your a good teacher and thats good enough for me. I want to say that I and my friends support you 100%
  2. The system is hurting already in so many different places. As someone else in this thread said, if we want to talk about a hurt system there are much larger objects of attention, even in the area of education. If other people were hurt by what this teacher had to say, then why is it that Matt seems alone in this? If you have recieved correspondence with these hurt people, then why dont they take a stand with Matt? Also I would like to add that a lot of people should be careful about what they read in the papers and see on the news, because my cousin did an interview for the news upon this subject and the only thing they used was the one negative thing he said. Not that anyone doesn't know that the media twists things, Im just stating this cause I saw a couple of posts regarding the paper and news reports. Also, if Matt were in a history class in College and the teacher preached like this would he go to the papers? It is my understanding that in college you are treated like an adult, and are expected to hear things you disagree with. In the real world if someone preaches somewhere they shouldn't dont you just walk away? I would also like to know whether this teacher has done this sort of thing before or whether it is a first time?
  3. First let me say that I dont ignore Matt or anything being I am not in the Kearny High School, though I did attend elementary and middle school with him. Second preaching may be illegal in a public school, but being a teacher requires you to draw on previous experiences such as another job. My old science teacher used to talk about his older brother and how going into business for yourself is great, should I get angry because I wasn't learning something on science? Grant it that it is not illegal to disscus that but why should I learn that instead of what my parents tax dollars are paying for? Also did he hurt anyone with his statements? Sure what he did was wrong and illegal, but did he force anyone to convert? Did any student, besides Matt LaClair, get offended by this teachers statements? Or did it turn out that, like most discussions in the class room, the kids just disregard whatever they dont believe is going to be on the test? Also I have not heard Mr. LaClair concur or disagree with the statement that Matt LaClair had his schedule changed to be in that class. Could you please tell us whether this statement is true or false? And if it's true, could you explain why this change had taken place?
  4. Allow me to say Matthew LaClair was wrong. I agree in the fact that a teacher should never bring in religion like that. But this was a histroy teacher and religion is one of the major drives of history. Also if you listen to the audio the teacher asks if anyone minds if the conversation continues. If Matt had a problem he could have said he did not wish for the conversation to continue and it probably would have ended. Now when you have a conversation on something as fundamentally important in religion, in history and in some people, you are bound to get some peoples personal opinion. Isn't that one of the things we fought for during the Revolutionary War, freedom to state your opinion. I happen to know Matt LaClair, me and him used to be good friends, and I know first hand the Matt likes attention. He is an actor and anyone who knows anything about business knows that any publicity is good publicity. I give Matt some credit he did his research in finding out that the teacher was a priest and also he knew exactly hwo to talk to. But in the end I feel bad for the teacher because in the end even after all the contrpversy is over with, and Matt LaClair is proven to be doing nothing more then looking for attention, this teacher will still have the stigma of these accusations.
  5. I think it will most likely be Edwards v McCain. Hillary is popular but she isnt a good candidate. If you look at her previous campaigns you'll see she'll tell you anything to get your vote. Obama seems good and has a lot of popularity, but he hasn't done anything and all he can tell you is ideas and promises, but he can't show you how well he can get a job done. Giuliani is a terrible candidate in my opinion for the same reason he was back in 2000. He was a great mayor, but he has no experience on the national stage and has never handled something on that level. McCain is a big name in Congress and has shown he can get the job done, one example would be the bill that gave suspected terrorists constitutional rights. Edwards was, if you recall, John Kerry's running mate. The good thing that can be said about him is that he remained silent pretty much during the Kerry Campaign so no one can use previous statements to contradict current statements or make him look bad. I personally hope John McCain wins, but maybe thats just me.
  6. The simple thing is this, last time I checked the language used in our school systems and the majority of stores was english. I don't see kids having to take special classes like ssl, last time I checked if you didn't speak english it was mandatory to take an esl class, this means ENGLISH as a second language. I like the idea of people volunteering to help the kids, Im all for that. The part I don't agree with is the idea that if everyone can speak english and only the majority can speak spanish then why can't they get people who can speak english? I am sure that in soccer town USA we can find someone who speaks english and can play soccer. I don't care what language people speak at home, you can make up your own language for all i care, but when you are in public and are working with other people shouldn't you be using the common language?
  7. What are you some kool-aid drinking commie-lovin idiot? This country was founded an English speaking country. The president swears into office in English, not spanish. My family fought for this country and died for this country. They died for an English speaking country not a spanish one.
  8. What the hell is happening? My brother plays soccer and today they brought in some volunteers to help coach. And this guy gave instructions for 20 min. in spanish. My brother doesn't know spanish. He didnt say one damn word in english. What happened to this country, where everything is in damn spanish. Grant it that there were only a few kids who didn't understand spanish, but how are they supposed to feel? Don't you think that they would feel left out. I don't care what any one says about "its a free country" this is America, we speak english. Speak what ever you want at home and to your family, but when you are out in society talking to me or trying to do business speak english. I am thoroughly pissed off at watching these people come in and not respect our country. If you go to Spain, Italy, Russia, or Iran wouldn't you be expected to speak the respective languages wouldn't you? So why do we have to put up with this shit?

    JULY 4th

not only were the fireworks postponed which pissed me off but they had them today and my question is this: Since when is cher patriotic? I was happy towards the end when they began to play patriotic music, but the entire extravaganza should have had patriotic music. No Santana, Cher and who ever else they played before i put one of my headphones on and listened to my own, patriotic, music.
