  1. I am right. I never said he could electioneer. I in fact stated he couldn't do that within 100 feet of an entrance to a voting booth. I said he could challenge a vote if he had the proper credentials. If anyone believed this was happening they had the personal right to contact the county. I wouldn't trust someone else. Candidates have the right to challenge a voter if they believe they are not qualified to vote and must sign an affidavit in the process. They don't only "have the right to OBSERVE". (They just can't electioneer)
  2. Ok you are a little crazy. I really was just curious. I have no interest in helping at this point in my life but was curious to what that position does.
  3. If he aquired a proper challengers badge he has the right to do this. Bernadette McDonald by virtue of her name being on the ballot could also do this. (Without a Challengers badge) No one can campaign within 100 feet of the enterance to the election area. The county elections office should have been contacted if this was going on. http://www.njelections.org/co-polling-post...glo)-072309.pdf

Your post doesn't make much sense. I'm not saying names but if you ask the question and put the appropriate positions you are talking about you might get an answer.

I voted him back in and I feel very good about that vote.
  7. Stupid reply. But I am assuming (I really don't know this for sure but it makes sense) Harrison gets the offer first cause its their town. Prob the only reason East Newark gets offered is because they are part of the same PBA as Harrison, then to the County Sheriff's. Kearny prob didn't even get offered or are down the list after the Sheriff's. Again don't know this is only educated speculation unlike what most people do on this board.
  8. From what I understood they were paying the HPD guys at the stadium. (The Red Bulls) from what I understand HPD gets first shot at the extra pay, then ENPD, then Hudson County Sheriffs, paid by the Red Bulls, for the police actually on premises.
  9. The President of the United States makes $400,000 a year. (Base Salary) United States Senator $174,000. By Law the highest paid Federal Employee is the President of the United States. Interesting side note when Bobby Ross was hired as the football coach for Army he was paid by the Alumni Association to create a loophole. It's not that hard to figure this stuff out.
  10. I am sorry but that is not State Law. That is no longer the way it works. The Appellate Division of the NJ Superior Court ruled on this in 2002. The way it works is they award "Volunteer Firefighter Service Credit". The law allows volunteers of the combination department to receive up to 3 to 10 extra points depending on time of service. It starts once you hit your second full year of volunteer service. So say if you were a Volly FF for Harrison for 2 years you would get 3 points, 3 years 4 points and so on until you max out at 10 added to your final score on the Civil Service Test. These points would only apply to Harrison though, no other towns. Also note because Harrison hires off of a Hudson/Essex county list any person who receives "Veteran's Preference" that lives in Hudson or Essex county would still be automatically ranked higher regardless. Maybe before you guys start to "reorganize" the Harrison Fire Department you should first fully understand the Fire Department policies and the state policies regarding hiring and so forth.
  11. You say the above poster is intelligent. Do you not realize the majority of the post can't happen? You can't just give town employee's an extra $20000 a year in salary to be a Volly. You have to treat all the volly's the same. Paramus Vollunteers are the highest I've ever heard of in terms of stipends. They can recieve up to $500 a month. You couldn't just pay some random town employee OT for responding off hours and not give another resident who may be responding the same deal. It's discrimination. Having a combo paid/volly department isn't exactly as smooth as you make it out to be. You talk about not compromising saftey one bit and you want to roll out an engine with 2 people!? Are you nuts??? NFPA studies clearly demonstrate that for "safe, effective and efficient fire suppression, each responding company needs a minimum of four fire fighters." And cutting the fire department will not save as much tax money as people seem to think.
  12. Haven't looked at a Budget recently but I would be willing to place a wager that Education is the biggest % of Harrison residents tax bills.
  13. You can't do anything with two men on an engine. You obviously have no idea how an engine works.

The majority of Taxes does not go towards Municipal Services. Kearny was one of the few towns in the State whose credit rating was raised during this past year. (Which is a sign of solvency). Taxes go up all over the state every year it has nothing to do with specifically Kearny. Most people's salaries go up year after year (I'm talking about tax payers) it is the way of the world. I do live in Kearny. I pay Kearny taxes. Kearny has good services (glad I don't live in Harrison). The majority of my post was about the "Birthday thing". Lets be real. Giving someone an extra day off doesn't affect taxes at all. If anything it effects services and I don't see services being effected for this.

I think no matter where you work your Birthday should be a paid holiday... why the hell not? Its a personal important celebration day. Or at the very least you should get to transfer it to the friday of that week. Who the hell cares? It's like barging for a contract and recieving 11 personal days instead of 10. Lets be thankful Kearny is in pretty good economic shape considering the times. All the other towns are laying off and cutting back a lot of services, Kearny isn't making these major cut backs...
  17. Margaret Dock passed away this past Thursday. She was the owner of the "Health Food Center" that use to be on Kearny Ave (by Mace Bro's). The Buisness was in the town for over 30 years. The Wake will be at Thiele-Reid's Funeral Home Sunday 2-4/7-9 Mass Will be at St. Stephen's 10:30 Monday Morning.
  18. The United Irish Association of West Hudson Picks it. It is made up of Representives of a bunch of different non-profit organizations. Harrison/EN Elks, KofC (Kearny), KofC (Harrison), Hibernias, ENFD, Harrison FMBA... to name a few. They are the group that organizes the parade/dance for St. Patricks Day and picks all the honorees. It's not always a firefighter. http://www.unitedirish.org/ (thats there website and they have a list of all the past honorees) Ironically this year two firefighters are in the mix. Harrison's Chief Woods and East Newarks Captain Duffy.
  19. I'm just curious. What is the role of "player agent"?

No, not expecting it to burn down. What I expect is an increase in traffic. Which will lead to an increase in frustrated drivers. Which will lead to an increase in road rage. Which will lead to an increase in MVA's. (Which if there is any leaky fluids requires or in juried parties requires FD presence). Also I believe you will get your random car fire here and there at the events. People are stupid. If you allow tailgating it will lead to car fires. (it happens at NFL stadiums throughout the season, people apparently think its a good idea to push the grill under their car to let the charcoals cool) If you don't allow tailgating it will lead to fire. (people will try to sneak it and then try to hide it under their car if they think they are about to get caught as stupid as it sounds it happens) For those above reasons and more thats why the NJSEA created a full time fire department for the Meadowlands Complex. There are full time 24/7. (granted two guys) And are supplemented by a number of part time personnel for all events. I personally expect to see a major increase in Emergency Service response to that Stadium when events start to happen. One good thing Harrison did was contract private EMS for coverage for those events. But that’s just my own personal opinion.

Your going to need that and more when the Red Bulls stadium opens.
  22. I don't work for the Govt and I have a pension plan. I know now a days I'm the exception to the rule but that doesn't mean we don't exist.
  23. Why can't KOTW create a "National Politics" forum right next to Kearny, Harrison, East Newark and North Arlington. That way if you want to talk National Politics you don't post it in the Kearny section.
  24. You can thank the NAACP for that one. At least back in the day when you got your job you had to be a Harrison Resident. Same went for Kearny and a bunch of other towns. At least at that time when people were hired they had a vested interest in these towns. Now it doesn't matter.
  25. With Fire and Police the "layoff" will come with the top paid (removable) position (Deputy Chief) so... the lowest man seniority wise (out of the DC's) gets to defer to the next rank down (keep passing down the layoff essentially)... The deferral process eventually stops when one person says "i'm going to retire since I'm up anyway instead of seeing someone laid off" or until the man with the lowest seniority has to go. In most cases if your a DC and about to be made a captain cause of the layoff and you are eligible to retire you just retire because you retire at that higher pay grade. The process is a state civil service thing not something the town really controls. Also I believe the people being laid off can appeal to the State Civil Service board.
