  1. Dear Guest The town Health Department officers wear color coded uniform shirts, and when the health officer asks for their I.D., they ( the teen in question) are also entitled to ask to see theirs (respectfully), also 9 1/2 students out of 10 carry a cell phone, if they are that innocent or scared let them call the police to come and wittness the actions of the officer. Now the big one, we do not pay our police officers to pick up after your children, who should by this age, should know that it is illegal to litter. Now to the matter of this child using a residents garbage can, that is also not permitted due to the fact that if it were a regular garbage recepticle, and they start throwing cans in there, who is going to get the fine for mixing recycl. with the reg. gatbage? sorry, but I think that what they(the town) is doing is the right thing, teach these kids at home and then when they are out they will respect where they live and won't be hounded by the " Litter Police"
  2. Grandma, if we as seniors had a ticket book, can you imagine the danger that would present? I wouldn't trust that one of these smart a-- kids wouldn't take revenge in some way. These kids know that they are wrong, but they don't care, they don't have to worry, if they destroy something, thier parents will take care of it. And I don't want to hear these parents say " Oh they are picking on my kid" I have children that grew up here they didn't do these things, they were brought up better than that. So we shall see, if they pay these tickets, I would sure like to know when their court date is so I could be there to listen to the line of s--t that comes out of their mouths
  3. Well, I have been there during the lunch hours, I see the police come and they move, but as they do they just drop stuff on the ground, so nonchlant, like who cares, WELL I DO, how dare these kids litter our streets, they all should be fined and community service performed. Give them a broom, some gloves and get moving. It is not up to the police dept. to babysit these kids, that is why in other towns they are not allowed off school grounds at lunch time. If the parents have a problem with this, then give them the broom. I have seen my grandson 5yrs old drop a wrapper on the ground, and I told him to pick it up, he did and then asked me why, I told him that he wouldn't do it at home, why would you do it in the street, where someone else has to clean it up. He is now 10yrs and he learned from being told, respect the town where you live, just like you would your home.
  4. I just got done with reading the article in The Observer about Kearny High School students being ticketed with littering, they claim that they are being stalked by the "Litter Police". First, I have been a Kearny resident for over 50yrs and I have seen these kids, walking and sitting on Kearny Avenue just drop, wrappers, soda cans, food containers and all types of garbage on the streets. The problem now, is that they are getting caught, I use to be proud to say I was from Kearny, the streets were clean we had kids hanging on the Ave, but they weren't like these kids. The DPW has garbage recepticles on every corner, so whats the problem? The two town employee's who gave the tickets are just doing their jobs. I don't care what these kids tell their parents, I have seen it first hand, as have many residents, the only problem is that they got caught. So I give my upmost respect to the " Litter Police", they are trying to Keep Kearny Clean. And if these practice's were taught at home from early childhood, then maybe we wouldn't have to "stalk " the kids.
  5. Kearny DPW retirement party ! Congratulations!! Double D, Linda, Tommy, Dennis M,
  6. This morning Kearny lost one of it's most popular crossing guards, and many of us lost a dear friend. Dottie Smith of Kearny passed this morning after a long battle with cancer. I am proud to have called her my friend, she was the crossing guard at Kearny Ave. at St. Cecilias Church. and was one of the most energetic people I knew, she always had a nice word for everyone. I would just like to convey my sympathy to her family and to all that knew her.
  7. This is just the kind of response I did not ask for. What happened to you people, that you can't just wish someone "Happy Holiday"? I bet you would find a problem wishing someone to "Have a nice day". I said it that way, because I have friends in many faiths, and who don't have any religious beliefs, it doesn't make them a bad person. Like I said, "religion is a private matter". So to those of you that don't like Christmas, couldn't care less or whatever your problem is, "Have a nice day!". And to those of you who celebrate, again "Happy Holiday"
  8. Please, I asked that my post just be a wish fo Happy Holidays, not a forum for contraversy. In my own family ,I believe in God and my daughther is a WICA, but at this time of the year, she honors me with my beliefs, She has the up most respect for my beliefs and doesn't bring her religion into that day. You see it doesn't matter who or what you worship, it's how you do it, religion is a private matter. SO PLEASE just take this post as it was meant to be, don't bring negative things to it. Thank You very much and again Best Wishes for a safe, healthy and Happy Holiday.
  9. This post is just a wish of Happy Holidays, no matter what your holiday is, maybe we can just let a post be just that! So to all My Best Wishes
  10. I asked the same question 8 yrs ago when I sold mine. I owned atwo family w/yard full basement, driveway and pool and my taxes were lower than the taxes on my condo in Arlington Ridge
  11. Today I had the privilege of attending the Veterans Day Celebration on Kearny Ave. I was amazed that only a hand full of people were there, to honor our vets. I am disabled, but I made it there because I wanted to say Thank You, for fighting for me and mine, so we could live the way we do. I wish that more people felt that way, but apparently they don't. So to all the vets that are on this forum I say Thank You!
  12. If you look in the Observer, there is very little about Kearny anymore,it seems that they edit out all the things that use to be in the paper, and all the things that we as residents should know about.
  13. Here is alittle info, your best bet is to contact the town council members like Carol Jean Doyle, she fights against everthing else, so why not this, I don't live too far away but I am having a horrible time with these kids, going and coming from school,I just open my door and my dog shows her teeth and they are gone, maybe you can her a lg dog but I guess at her age she doesn't want a dog I would continue to call the police dept until they send someone during lunch hours to move them, I wish you all the best
  14. My Dear Strife, I have contacted the moderator, I did not copy and paste anything, if you look at the post it is a jumbled mess, my post was a two sentence comment. I have enough imagination to use my own words when I want to get my point accross. I have been on this forum for over one year under a different name, I have read every post on this site and many of them were interesting. I would like someone to tell me why family values are not a key issue, they are our future, we have to teach them what it is to be a mature and respectable person, that when they do something that is not right they have to deal with the consequences. So that is my story
  15. This is reply to your post, the word legible means to read with ease, I am not a stupid person, but I had no problem reading what I wrote. We do have other issues in this town, like teens running around destroying public and private property ,we have parking problems, I can go on and on, but we always seem to end up right back to the same things. I wish that I could do something to help, but I alone can not. There are many things for our young people to get involved with, youth groups, boy scouts, sports, they should have a curfew, and that starts at hom, then it should be enforced by the police department. I was a kid once and yes, we walked on the ave, but we did not get in brawls, destroy property or any of the activities these young people are into now, so I think that they should be the priority. I have tried numerous times to create new posts, and people are just not that interested. They just want to sit and complain, well please, go to the town meetings and sit and complain, thats where it will help.
  16. This is an unfortunate problem that is going on in OUR town, in todays Star Ledger I read about a young college man 19yrs old that was stopped by a few men and asked him for directions, then they jumped him stole his wallet & phone and the final blow was to beat him to death. Is this where we are heading? I hope not, this topic was started to alert parents of what is going on. But yet apparently it is not as important as the other same old subjects on this forum.

    KEARNY TAX

2nd it's time to CAP all town employee salaries teachers included. Look at the Deputy chiefs they make 6 figures in salary. The town can save money by switching town vehicles from gasoline to E85 or natural gas. The other day I was on route 1 in Edison, who drives past me a Town of Kearny container truck. Maybe they were picking up new tree's to replace the ones that were destroyed by local youths? Or maybe they were doing some other business, all the trucks have GPS and they are monitored, I am sure. I have learned not to jump to conclusions if you saw the truck and it bothers you so much, call the town as a concerned citizen and ask why the truck was there in Edison, so far from Kearny.
  19. I never complain about the kids playing stick ball or ant type of games in the streetor complained about large groups sitting on porches, but the today I saw the most horrible display of these young people you could imagine. I live on Elm St and the people down the block were not at home, so the nephew had a few ( NOT REALLY) friends over, faces painted red & black cars dropping off more teens, girl coming in & out well they were the most rowdiest group I have ever seen foul language, annoying, loud, rude running in & out constantly, if I saw this and my son wanted to join the soccer team I would say no way based on the goings on in this house today but the worst part about it was the loud cursing in the streets boys & girls alike. Some of the things they were yelling I would blush in mixed company. What are we teaching these kids? Residents up and down the street were opening thier doors and looking out to make sure no damage was being done and there was no absolutly no supervision there. Parents check it out make sure you know where your children are this is how the teens get in trouble, always make sure there is an adult home.

    Off I go...

How Dare You!! Your a mother? well I am glad your not mine, I wouldn't even let you post again, if I were the one running this forum. There are no words that can describe what you are, I am serious, I have never wanted to slap someone this badly in a long time. You should be ashamed, and you call yourself Conservative Mommy. there are people dying over there to protect and serve. And I have family members there, do you think that not knowing if and when you are going to be killed is funny? Oh, I have to get off here before I say any more, you really know how how pss people off. Well all I have to goodbye!~
  22. It has been a big problem for years and with the influx of new families it is getting worse, more than half of the parents have no idea where their children are, and what they are doing, they just tell them to be home at a certain time and thats it. That is a very dangerous area for traffic alone, never mind adding kids on bikes, thats just an accident waiting to happen, and like you said the driver will be at fault. I have been down this road before, they stay in the street and will not move and then they curse at you as you are trying to get around them, you just want to jump out of the car and smack them, and then of course if you do, bye bye your arrested, but are they for harrassment? NO, so all in all it's a losing battle and guess who wins?

    Backyard Fires

Have you reported this? If you have and nothing was done than go higher, it is illegal to do what this person is doing, there could be toxic chemicals or even asbestos burning in there My suggestion is call the fire department, the board of health, the building dept, and the state DEP

    Recreation Department

The recreation commitee should be made up of a representative from each sport and ONE (1) representative from the town, and the supervisor of the recreation department (DPW). This way everything that each representative from each sport has to say about what is needed, for them to have a successful season, is known. The right hand has to inform the left hand of what they are doing, and they have to be in contact with each.I agree the fields are kept in great shape, but they work hard to do it. If you have a commission or commitee that has a personal interest in the recreation dept, then they will be more comitted than anyone else.

    Recreation Department

My apologies, my comment was that of the way it should be, every season in every sport should have their rosters ready for assignment of fields and times. The Director and his assistant should then prepare a list so there are no game conflicts. I understand that the coaches are volunteers, but if they are told that the fields are not open for use then they should abide by that. And they don't, I see people going through holes in the fence when the gates are locked, they are locked for a reason, the field is not ready, also, we have to remember that there are non residents using our fields eg: Harvey Field so I agree that a commission of coaches meet with the recreation director and the recreation supervisor and put it all on the table and come up with a solution.
