"lets get some facts out there...congress was ran by the democrats for most of the time bush was in office, and while in charge republicans were bringing up warnings about fanny and freddie and the mortgage crisis coming...time and time again democratic congressman made fun and even screamed at economists and others about ringing false alarms about the economy..barny frank and nancy pelosi are two people who are part of the problem...go to youtube and search congress, and freddy and fanny..you will see for yourself.."

  2. "There are African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Arab Americans, etc. And then there are just Americans."

    What about Irish-Americans, Polish-Americans, Italian-Americans, Indian-Americans, etc?

Ever since the 60s I've heard white people complain that they were not given a job or a promotion because a lesser-qualified person of a minority or a woman got the job. You would think that, by the 80s, this country would have completely collapsed because of all of the unqualified people who were running things. Okay, things did get bad in the past eight years but that was due to one incompetent white man.

"By the way, you speak of the above listed organizations that are available to "blacks" because the needed assisstance to "break through the walls of exclusion". Well, I do believe they (blacks) have made it to the mountain top and NOW that there is a BLACK President, I do not think these organizations are NEEDED any more! How about practicing what they preach, "equality for all". Now drop affirmative action as well! The opportunity for advancement is there for everyone, (white, black, yellow and any other color) it is what you make of it!"

Racism isn't going to go away just because one black man has been elected to the presidency.

"Let's see which of you are proud enough to send it on. I sadly don't think many will. That's why we have lost most of OUR RIGHTS in This Country. We won't stand up for ourselves!"

What exactly are these rights you have lost? Name five of them.

  3. I just love the way defeatocrats are so quick to give Clinton a pass by simply saying "he had an affair" . As a sitting President, he had an incestuous relationship, perhaps rape, with a young girl, in the White House. He then lied under oath before Congress and the world, denying these crimes. Clinton is a criminal who should have been removed from office and put in jail. John Edwards is no better. He campaigned on a platform of high moral strandards while he was running around behind his dying wife commiting adultry with another woman. Kennedy was another one, he was about as faithful as an alley cat. Defeatocrats talk the talk but they can't walk the walk. Must be something in the Kool-Aid.

    Rat:

Do you have any idea what "incestuous" means? Clinton had sex with an adult woman. Congress had no right to ask him questions that were that personal. Democrats are not parading around shouting about "family values." It's the hypocritical Republicans doing that.

I would like to know how you explain the following list of Republican wrongdoings:

Dasen, 62, who is married with grown children and several grandchildren, has allegedly told police that over the past decade he paid more than $1 million to have sex with a large number of young women.

While you're at it, how do you defend John McCain, Mike Foley, David Vitter, and Larry Craig.

  4. If you talk to the people who are actually THERE, instead of listening to the talking heads in the studios in NY, you would find that the majority of them Think it IS going well. Violence is down, the Iraqui Security Forces are handling more and more every day, to the point that the extra troops that compromised the surge are being drawn down. There's even some progress on the Politcal front with Al Sadr calling for peace, and Al-Malachi having a HUGE approval rating even amongst the Sunni and Kurds.

The people on the ground in a war zone often only see a very small part of the conflict. There are vets coming back who say that the war isn't going so well. I bet the people being bombed in the Green Zone the other day thought everything was just peachy.

  5. Reading comprehension is not wide-spread among the Kool-Aid crowd. Patriot did not suggest Obama

would roll over and play dead. Patriot said it would be PERCEIVED in the Arab world as groveling and would be a huge propaganda victory for the radicals. Ahmadine would play it up and tell his followers that

that Obama pleaded and begged (insert any other words that fit) before the mighty Arab nation.

Iran is not an Arab nation. I didn't read PatRat's comment the way you did. Hitler always hated and underestimated Great Britain, just like the Japanese misunderestimated the US. They thought that Pearl Harbor would demoralize the nation and we would beg for peace. In this day of being able to record everything, any meeting between President Obama and Ahmadinejad would be recorded. Of course, anyone could distort and re-edit the recordings (check any right wing blog), but the truth would still be out there.

What would be gained in the way of trying to influence the feelings of the Muslim world by a face-to-face meeting would be far better than just dropping a few thousand bombs.

  6. "Peace in our Time"...didnt work out so well for Old Nevill, did It. Look at how they treated Churchill as he was sounding the warning about Hitler and the "Narzis" (As Sir Winston called them)..yet he was the one who was right all along... COme to think of it THAT is a parallel today as well, since wnyone who tries to make the case that Islamic Exrtemist Terrorism is alive and well is called everything from a "Fear-Monger" to an outright liar.

And the war in Iraq and Afghanistan is going soooo well.

You just gotta love the "Screw diplomacy; bomb'em to hell" crowd for their consistency. Obama didn't say he would roll over and play dead, he said he would like to meet with Ahmadinejad. Extrapolating anything more is dishonest.

  8. As a history teacher I have to agree with you. Nowhere in the Constitution is there a mention of

religious displays. Nor is there any mention of "separation of church and state" anywhere in the

Constitution. They are both a myth. The only mention of the word "religion" in the Constitution is

in the First Admendment which states: Congress shall make NO LAWS respecting an establishment

of religion. So all these nutty atheists need to shut up.

So now everyone who supports the constitutional idea of separation of church and state is a nutty atheist? No sane person would ever say that the words "separation of church and state" are in the constitution. The same goes for "religious displays." The point is that the Constitution does not spell out specifics. It needs to be interpreted and the Supreme Court has interpreted the Constitution to mean that the state cannot favor one religion over another. This includes not allowing school prayer, bible reading, and public displays of religious symbols. Their interpretation is the only one that counts, not yours, Mr Paszkiewicz.

  9. As stated by another poster, the ACLU will occasionally take on a minor conservative cause to give the

impression of balance. This is a calculated PR job. Only the Loony Left and the seriously naive will believe

otherwise. Which one (or both) are you.

It could be the Right's consistent habit of stepping on other people's civil rights and the Left's concerned for the civil rights of others.

  10. I'm sorry, was Roe v. Wade in the Constitution, or was it created by the Supreme Court. Remember, I'm not arguing the validity of abortion, only that it doesn't EXIST in the Constitution. Later!!

The law forbidding abortion was overturned by the Supreme Court. It did not make a new law. The Supreme Court based their decision on the right to privacy. If you do not believe there is a right to privacy you would have to believe that the government has the right to tell you what to do in your own bedroom, to tell you that you can or cannot use birth control, and that your medical records and your dicussions with lawyers and clergy are not private. None of the rights I just mentioned are included in the Constitution explicitly.

  11. Dr. Pepper is the only thing that comes to mind. The previous poster probably was thinking of something else, since Dr. Pepper doesn't seem particularly offensive, or particularly likely to have been an intended connection. More likely the intent was simply what it appeared to be: a shorthand to save having to type out "David Paszkiewicz" in full, over and over.

    81771

I'm sure the original use of DP here was just shorthand for David Paszkewicz but another poster tried to make more out it.

I grew up in an eastern european immigrant community on the south side of Chicago and the derogatory use of the term was widespread. I don't know of its usage outside of the midwest.

  12. Yeah, we only like it when the Supreme Court gets hijacked by liberals who write legislation from the bench.  Problem is, the Supreme Court, whatever their particular ideology, is only supposed to DECIDE the case.  Instead they invent new LAWS to solve the problem the way they see fit.

It's all of them Paul, not just a select few that you disagree with.

    81499

And what new laws has the Supreme Court made?

  13. I’m curious, what does DP stand for?

DP stands for Displaced Person. The term was used after WWII for the people who had to leave their homes in Europe and then came to America. At least in the area where I grew up it was also a derogatory term for all recent immigrants from Europe, especially those from eastern Europe. Some people, including members of my own family, still call people DP's.

  14. One quick point - you cannot retape a door from the inside.

    80827

I was talking about someone who opened the door and broke the original tape, then reclosed the door and put a new piece of their own tape on the outside of the door. That way no one he/she could be gone for as much as eight hours before anyone knew that someone was missing. In the morning, after the student came back and broke the second tape, the chaperones would know only that someone had gone out. But they wouldn't know who left , how long the person was out, or what the person did.

  15. Let's dial down the over-reaction on the door taping for a moment, and look at it from a different perspective.

I have been a chaperone, and I take the safety of the kids under my charge (and the trust placed in me by their parents) very, very seriously.  Accordingly, I placed clear, scotch tape on doors to help to ensure the safety of the children.

The fact is that the doors are not taped shut (scotch tape is not very strong).  That is, anyone who chooses to leave the room can do so.  It is not a prison cell.

I don't think anyone here came to the conclusion that the doors were being taped shut.

What taping DOES do, is that it creates an opportunity to monitor the kids' safety with minimal intrusion.  A simple late-night walk down the hallway can determine if anyone is out of their rooms.  Doors that are taped do not need a room check.  Doors that are not do.  We take no less than 4 "monitoring" trips down the hallway per night.

This sounds nice but you are still not preventing anything from happening.  A kid can do a lot in two hours.

Now, your kids may be great kids (the clear majority of the kids who I have chaperoned are), but there are a few points that you are missing.

My kids are great boys.  Being a single parent I had to leave them home alone often. They were 13 and 11 when this started.  They never did anything bad that I discovered later.  I trusted them.

    (1) You cannot assume who the "bad" kids are, and discriminately tape their doors - I think for obvious reasons.

I agree but no one here suggested that.

Accepting this non-intrusive, non-discriminatory, broad policy gives the kids who need closer supervision the oversight they require, while not violating the rights of the "good" kids; (2) Sometimes good kids make bad decisions - it is a fact of life -and getting notice of a bad decision at 10:30 pm or even 2 am instead of at breakfast the next morning is preferable; and (3) you cannot also assume that the danger only rests with kids leaving their rooms voluntarily.  From sexual predators to potential adbuctors to the cute guy or girl that they met on the trip, I want to know if anyone went INTO the room at 10:30 pm rather than breakfast.

Again, you are not preventing anything from happening.  A clever teen could bring his/her own tape, leave and break your tape, then use their tape to reseal the door.  He/she could be out all night.  The tape will still be broken the next morning but the teen(s) would have had eight hours to do what they wanted.

Has anyone left their rooms under my charge?  Yes, twice.  Once was a sleepwalker who went to the hotel lobby to play the piano (even though she didn't know how to play the piano).  The other was a so-called "good" girl who was just feeling her oats a little and snuck out to meet a boy at the hotel's pool.  An 11:15 walk-by saw the broken tape, by 11:20 the hotel went on lock-down, and she was back in her room by 11:35.

Did taping prevent other kids from trying to leave?  Who the heck knows.  The only thing that I am SURE of is that I would have no idea how many kids were out of their rooms if I did not tape doors.  And I will trade off whatever hurt feelings there may be for taking doors shut, for being able to return the kids to their parents safely and securely.

    80192

I was always the type of kid who regularly broke my parents rules. I could be away for days without their knowing. I did a lot of stupid and dangerous things but I never was caught. My parents were physically abusive so I knew there would be hell to pay. They didn't really care what we were doing as long as it didn't cause them any inconvenience. I have two brothers and two sisters and for as long as I can remember we would leave the house in the morning and come back at sundown and my parents never knew where we were or what we were doing. I was a straight-A student but I was an alcoholic by the time I was 16 and I started having sex when I was 12 but everyone considered me to be an example for other kids. When I became a father I let my sons know that I cared about them and I always had a good idea where they were and what they were doing. The difference is having parents who love and trust their kids.

Chaperoning a group of teens is hard. You never really know what they might do so I think you need to be more proactive than reactive.

  16. Let me get this straight. So, what you are saying is.....let them do whatever they want without any consequences? You actually think teenagers are going to abide by the rules if they think there will be no consequences? A teen will think twice about it if they know that not only will they face possible suspension from the team, but, so will his/her roommates if no one fesses up! Most kids are great kids, but, there is always one or two that can ruin it for everybody.

    79895

Oh come on! Another stupid false dichotomy. There are other ways to make sure the teammembers are safe. There should always be an adult chaperone in each room. The tactic of kicking everyone off the team, temporarily or permanently, sounds like a nice totalitarian idea: punish the group for the sins of one. If the one that left commits a crime, should they all go to jail? What if they don't know who left? What if they were all asleep? The chief job of chaperones is to prevent misbehaviour, not to inflict punishment after the deed is done. Natalie Holloway's door in Aruba may have been taped but she is still dead.

  17. What planet do you live on?

    79542

Let's look at this realistically. The tape on the door is worthless. Putting tape on the door does not prevent anything. A student can sneak out and do whatever he/she wants to do and then come back later. The next morning the only thing Paszkiewicz would know is that someone in the room left. That's it. There is no way to tell who left and what he/she did. There is nothing to stop anything bad from happening. If a kid goes out and gets killed the chaperones will be responsible. If the kid is irresponsible enough to sneak out and then sneak back in you cannot expect him/her to fess up the next morning.

  18. Lets get to the point.  That you, strife, paul or any of the LoonyLeft "guests"

thinks scanning phone calls "unacceptable" is irrelevant. The president is

doing what we elected him to do, protect the american public. GWB does not

care if some Kool-aid drinking nut jobs have their panties in a bind. As a

matter of fact, I think the president enjoys watching the Loonies running

around like mindless idiots screaming about their "essential liberties".

Fortunately for America, the Loony Lefties are a small minority and will

not change any policies that protect us.  So my advice to you and those who

think (?) like you is simple, seek professional help or get looser fitting

      underwear.

simple, seek professional help or get  looser fitting underwear.

    79294

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

The president's duty is to the Constitution. Bush ignores the Constitution.

I've asked this question before but I never got an answer: How are the radical right wingnuts going to feel about the godless Democrats listening in to their phone calls and reading their mail?

  19. Appropriate for you, not everyone. That's what you "christians" fail to understand. You think every living soul has to be of the same mindset as you. Do you posses the capacity to accept reality?

    78793

I hope all of the intelligent people here caught the irony of someone calling herself "Kearny Christian" is the one who brought discord and hatred into this thread.

I wonder if she takes the "mass" part of christmas as seriously as she does the christ part.

  20. Stop talking about logic and how much more informed than the rest of us you are.  You don't even know what religion Mr. P is involved in.

    78126

Stop misquoting and distorting my posts. From the beginning we have known that Paszkiewicz is the youth pastor at a baptist church.

  21. How much do you want to bet that the case against Corbett goes nowhere?

    78007

If he wins, the christianists will say it is another sign of how godless we've become and another turn toward secular humanism and will distort the judge's decision.

If he loses, they will say "God's will has triumphed. We are returning to our foundation as a christian nation."

    Either way they win.

If the case is dropped before it goes to court, it will disappear from the christianist media.

  22. The conversation was taped, dummy. Fire the retarded atheist.

    77902

Using your logic(?), Paszkiewicz should also be fired.

The difference is that Paszkiewicz was preaching, Corbett was teaching. Plaszkiewicz was proseletizing for a particular religion--fundamentalist, literalist Protestant. Corbett was not presenting any particular religion. Christianists need to realize that, even though they don't like it, it is perfectly within the law for other people to offend them.
