Frankly it doesnt seem like it's that shocking a revelation to a LOT of people, and CERTAINLY not enough to make him resign, even with the threat of the Sexual HArassment Lawsuit hovering over his head. Anyone want to take a bet that there are more indictments coming down for corruption in the administration?? Of course, they're doing another "Torricelli Option" by not having him step down immediately, thereby forcing a special election in November. No matter what his reasons for resigning are, if he's going to resign, then he should do so, now, Not in Nov. Give the voters the chance to choose their own governor.

Could someone tell me why his wife was standing by his side as he made this announcement???? I'm all for that "stand by your man" crap, but this is alittle rediculous.

It seems like she has the HILARY syndrome.....whatever!

You're a real class act - "Shocked". So, if someone is homosexual (that's the term - not queer), they can't be a good public servant?

I guess all homosexual police officers and fireman should resign. How about teachers? Repair men? Bartenders? Bankers? Judges? Lawyers? I could go on but I won't.

Actually, I don't know why I bothered to reply to your post. You're obviously an idiot. Usually I don't waste my time with such stupidity and ignorance.

And by the way, I'm not homosexual if that's what you're thinking.

I felt compelled to post since for once I agree with Studies.... well 75% anyway.

I voted for Jim McGreevy. I had no idea that he was gay but that would not have changed my mind about voting for him. However, New Jersey in 2001 and likely still today, would not elect an openly gay Governor.

As Studies points out though, that's not what's at issue here. The governor has associated with a number of questionable charactors and there have been a lot of rumors circulating that he may have even done a few questionable things himself as far as campaign funding. This isn't new, both parties have been involved in this stuff for as long as there have been elections that needed to be paid for. The bottom line is that if he was involved in doing something illegal he will be indicted. My gut feeling from what I'm hearing is that he will.

Now for what we don't agree on...

This crap storm of calls from republicans nationwide for him to resign now is a bit over the edge. Their concern for the welfare of New Jersey is very touching. They are obviously very desparate to find an issue, any issue, to save Bush from a one way ticket back to Crawford but, alas!, this isn't it. All the jumping up and down and pouting on the part of the New Jersey Republicans is predictable. The Democrats in the same situation would be doing the same thing but that won't change the outcome.

Here is how I read the situation.

If things stay as they are with the gay soap opera playing out, McGreevy will remain in office until 11/15 and the Repubs will be denied their Nov 2nd election against a wounded Democratic party. If Mr. Christie, the US Attorney for NJ, decides to play politics for his boss Mr. Ashcroft and rush an indictment against McGreevy in the next few weeks then things may get more politically dicey.

None of this changes the outcome, however. If McGreevy doesn't resign earlier there is no way he can be forced to leave unless he is impeached. That is very unlikely to happen because of the party split in the legislature. In spite of all the fecal smeering, that the Republicans have gotten so good at nationwide, by next year all will be forgotten and NJ will elect yet another dem Governor.

IMHO, of course.

Queer?

He is using this as a deflection for the upcoming indictments against him. You are right-if he wants to go go now. Politics as usual. I won't mention names but I know someone who is related to his "wife-beard". This revalation was really not a shock to a lot of people. If he ran for re-election the Republicans were going to start floating the story and try to out him. Being gay is no reason to leave office-(Barney Frank) so that is pretty lame. To bad he'll get out before he goes to jail.

As a side note I remember hearing in an interview that Sen. Corzine would gladly resign and run for Gov.

When I die bury me in Hudson County so I can stay active in politics.

I think that its appaling that Gov. McGreevey hired his boytoy as his Homeland Security Advisor. His nomination of Charles Kushner as Port Authority Chairman and his use of the word "machavellian" as a codeword to signify that he was going along with a bribe payment to a Mommouth County farmer also shows that he is unworthy to be Governor. He should resign immediately and let the citizens decide who should take his place. If he doesn't, will only have a Democratic Organization flunky until the end of next year. I believe that McGreevey has other worries beside being sued for sexual harassment. Maybe some jailtime will be in the future for him but he may enjoy it because of his gayness.

When will you people realize he's not stepping down because he's gay, but because he let his homosexuality and his sexual urges enter the work place. The man appointed sexual interest to a high ranking position in the homeland security office.

Oh yeah, Mr. Ilovehomosexualsandi'mohsotolerant, I noticed you were really quick to make sure nobody thought you were gay. ha.

We dont disagree THAT often Rad...

Actually so did I Rad, i couldnt stomach voting for Schundler, at the time McGreedy looked like the least of the evils.. As to electing an oipenly Gay Gov...in Nj it probably WOULD be possible, considering the more liberal leanings of most of the state..either way, Gay Straight or whatever, if the man (or woman) can do the job without all of the attendant corruption and nepotism that has become the cornerstone of NJ politics, i say Elect em!!

As Studies points out though, that's not what's at issue here. The storm is coming from the Dems AGAIN Maniplulating the system to get what they want, if it was the Republicans doing it Rad id be JUST as PO'd about it. If you're gonna resign, then DO it, none of this conditional nonsense.

Here is how I read the situation.

I dont know..where it will get ugly for 2005 is between Schundler and Forrester, they Both want the Gov's seat. As far as NJ being a shoe-in for Gov?? once again I dont know... McGreevy was elected on more of a "Whitman screwed it up so lets give the other guys a chance" type of thing...subsequently HE's done a pretty piddle-poor job, almost making Florio look good. Depending on Who the dems get to run against him, the Republicans might actually stand a chance to take it back. Corzine Might make the jump to run for Gov, but that will depend a lot on what happens in Nov. If you see Kerry Lose, then my prediction is that Corzine will DEFINITLY run for Gov, since the old saw "Senators dont get elected president...but Governors DO" will come into play. If Kerry wins, then Corzine will stay in his senate seat since it's "The most exclusive club in the world"

As far as McGreevey being impeached, that actually IS possible, though not in time to get the Gubanatorial race on Nov's ballot. What he did, by putting someone into several positions that he was personally involved with is a CLEAR violation of the Nepotism statutes, and by those statutes impeachable.
