Harrison Elks

I have been a member of the Harrison Elks for many years. This once proud organization has become a political annex for a certain member (who is also a member of the Town Executive Board) who wields power like a follicularly challenged Dictator. I have witnessed abuses of power within the lodge and politicking, that has nothing to do with keeping the integrity of the lodge. How many Elks Members have Town jobs? How many people have joined the Elks just to get to be one of the “in” crowd and better position themselves for a possible Town job? This Dictator also has a sidekick (who also works several recreation jobs for the Town) that does most of his dirty work. A once proud organization with many voices has become a Banana Republic, with only two “my way” or “the highway” voices.

Good people have been turned down for membership because of their ethnicity, as this particular lodge has become a Caucasian only establishment with people of color often just treated as a minority looking for a charitable handout. Cutting ribbons at Grand Openings and filling boxes with clothes and food after a tragedy with a fake smile and a squishy handshake was never the intentions of the original initiators of The Harrison Elks. Politics was strictly prohibited and the lodge was never designed to be a Tammany Hall.

There's is another disgraceful example of white male domination in Harrison called the Harrison Fire Department. This $10 million a year taxpayer funded Caucasian retreat for the politically connected is as bad as it gets. It's a friend's & family charity that uses everything except guard dogs to keep minorities out. It's only a matter of time before the NAACP sues Harrison for the blatant racism. It's my opinion that African Americans, Hispanics, Orientals and people of Indian decent can sleep, eat, shit and run personal errands as good as the white privileged Firefighters. Corruption is a cancer and lawsuits are the cure. The residents will learn this the hard way.

I agree the more lawsuits brought to light the cookies will crumble. Start at the mayors office with all those deadbeats including recently hired town attorney scheduler daughter. It’s time to clean house and retire for good those old farts still sucking up space. Where are the Hispanics and Chinese ?? They have no Hispanics in any supervisor positions. The town is all Hispanic where are the Chinese ?? They make up a great deal of the town . Why doesn’t the fire dept hire minority’s? Minority’s pay their salary , they don’t live in town . But are voluntary in their towns or bake cakes with buddy. Such waste no wonder taxes go up. Enduring the high taxes and no parking in town . Leave people no recourse but to illegally rent their closets out and create mayhem . The corruption will surface. Every lawsuit brings them down . Someone call back the naacp tell them justice is needed ! Hell call channel four to investigate the corruption. Let them know it’s a series and rating tv for sure.

How are we hiring people from other towns and not the people who you look to for votes? Head Teacher out of North Arlington who has a personality of a bag of crap, teachers from Kearny, the lawyers daughter they don't even live in town, how about taking care of the people that do for you every election.

This is a real sore point with Barney.  He wasn't smart enough to pass the competitive test for the Kearny FD.  Sorry Barney, you just aren't bright enough.

I guess You haven’t heard about the Harrison Fireman medically pensioned out from the HFD and caught working as a full time Fireman in North Carolina . If you look up the article You will see Your grievance is merit less (there is a picture in the article) .

  Please also search for the article of NAACP vs Harrison NJ 1990 . It basically eliminated residency requirement for Employment .

after Your experience with the Garden City Fire Department You have a lot of knowledge of what goes  in a Fire House . You should move back to Harrison join the ELKs and run for office .

Just proves that you don’t actually live here. You’re so out of touch. That guy who pensioned out ( who recently passed tragically leaving behind a family) had his pension taken away for violating the rules. The state does the pensions not Harrison. 
 

secondly Harrison is a civil service town , they only hire from Essex and Hudson counties. 
 

lastly Harrison FD has quite a few minorities now. It is a very young department with a different culture then OLD Harrison.
