Guest Guest
Newark is exploring the idea of a basic monthly income for all residents 18 and over. Why not Kearny? Residents that are unable or unwilling to work need money the same as everyone else. Kearny needs to show these valued individuals that they are important to the community. Starting out with a small check of $1000 per month would help these marginalized residents pay their bills. The increase in property taxes will be well worth it to boost these disadvantaged folks over the poverty line. Let's get this program in place immediately. The Mayor & council should embrace their progressive values whether these residents are citizens or undocumented Americans. The taxpayers will support this effort without hesitation. Guest Guest
Everything seems impossible until somebody does it. Federal programs like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and ACA were passed. State programs like $15 minimum wage and free college tuition have proven the impossible to be relatively easy to pass. I'm shocked that people in progressive, liberal and strong Socialist/Democratic State of NJ would oppose a basic income for those unable or unwilling to work including undocumented Americans. The white privileged residents of Kearny and Harrison can certainly afford it. Opposition to basic income for all is an affront to progressive liberalism. The amount would also have to be in the area of $1100 per month given recent poverty line statistics. Mayor Santos and Fife: Are you listening? MOVE QUICKLY ON THIS PROPOSITION!! This forum is also my safe space so please don't post any negative comments on this topic or exhibit micro-aggressions. Hurting my feelings is as bad as a physical assault. Barney, Forget stand-up comedy, your attempts at humor are stupid.
