Barney, You failed to mention that the requirements for the PD are the same as those for the FD. Also the work week for the FD is 42 hours a week, not 30. The Kearny, Harrison and Hoboken Firefighters are the undisputed lightweights of Firefighting in Hudson County. They are a joke statewide and beyond. In my opinion, the Firefighters are incompetent cowards that can readily be replaced by high school kids as an after school or summer job. The remainder of the shifts can be handled by the homeless or senior citizens. The high school kids, homeless and seniors are actually a more qualified pool than the current bumbling idiot Firefighters. They haven't saved a life in at least a decade. It's very sad and tragic that lives were lost but you can always count on multiple Firefighters being injured no matter how small the fire. I seem to remember 3 West Hudson Firefighters injured at a garbage can fire. I believe 2 were out injured for almost a year and one retired on disability. Firefighting = fake news, fake propaganda and fake injuries. The only things real are the cowardice, overblown ego's and damage to the taxpayers wallets. Failure after failure after failure. Drug users, out of shape slobs and criminal histories are just technicalities that can be overlooked. That being said, if you're house was burning down, you would want someone to be available to at least TRY to help you, right? While the administration may be stone-age, firefighters still provide a very valuable service to the community even if they are the cousin, uncle or father of another employee.
