Guest Devin
The owner of an average Kearny property can expect to pay roughly $324 more in taxes this year, with town officials chalking up the bulk of the hike to an anticipated $211 increase in school taxes. The total tax bill on the average home valued at $100,000 includes increases of $67 for the municipal tax levy and $46 for county taxes. The school and county estimates represent preliminary numbers, since those budgets have not been adopted. Municipal officials introduced the town budget at a meeting of the governing body Tuesday and expect to hold a public hearing and final vote on May 10. There needs to be a salary freeze on municipal employees, I can't cut my food bill down any more.
Guest Trump
Taxes are in Kearny and Harrison are rising sharply. $12,000 or more in property taxes each year on top of the mortgage, homeowners insurance and water bills is becoming a reality. So what's the problem? The residents can do with less and that's took damn bad. Taxpayers don't need a college fund for their child, a new car, decent furniture or new appliances. Stop eating so much or buy cheaper stale food. A savings account or retirement fund? Be serious. Its a privilege to pay high taxes! Taxpayers in Kearny/Harrison should be proud that their Firefighters, School Administrators and others jobs born of nepotism and patronage are being paid top dollar. The majority of these privileged few don't live in town or pay Kearny/ Harrison taxes so why should they care? As a matter of fact, Kearny needs to hire a high paid town hall greeter like Harrison. It's so classy! Stop complaining and get a second or third job. Stop eating out once a week. Who cares? Pay up $$$$$$!!

I notice you didn't mention cops being paid top dollar along with the FF and school administrators. Ever since you moved out of town you're constantly bashing the town that pays you. Its sad that Kearny has gotten to this point and yes the nepotism has a lot to do with it. This little network of Political Elitists have controlled the purse strings in this town for years. The School System has been so political in recent years that the result is poor management and a massive Tax increase coming this year as a reason for it. In Town Hall we have a Mayor who is very comfortable in his County job owns no property in the town he represents and seems to think he is unbeatable in an election while he has continues from the day he took office to reduce town services and increase Property Taxes while good people move out with For Sale Signs are all over Kearny (JUST TAKE A RIDE AROUND TOWN AND SEE FOR YOURSELF) I have come to the conclusion that the blame is not on Mayor Santos he took what he was able to get away with without a Public Backlash. So I put the blame directly on the TAXPAYERS OF KEARNY for allowing this type of government to take advantage of a one party system that just failed the people of Kearny and showed no accountability for their actions over many years. Sadly people are moving not because they want to its just that Kearny isn't the same place that it was growing up and past Mayors were more accountable and understood that they to had famlies and were Taxpayers like everyone else and had a vested interest in Kearny. The Santos Legacy years from now will reflect a struggling town deep in debt and marginal town services reduced Police Services, Fire Services. Poor Schools and leaving the town with one of highest Property Taxes in the County. Its time for change in Kearny all it will take is for some of our Citizens to get off the sidelines and get involved in the game. Lets hope that happens because this type of Government will continue at the expense of the Taxpayers of Kearny.
