Contradicting BOE

At the Board's Budget hearing some things that don't make any sense occurred. Basically money is tight and areas where cuts could be made were looked at. Here is what is being cut:

1- ALL freshman athletics. At a time when KHS has been working to improve the Varsity feeder programs with quality underclassman athletics this Board has decided to eliminate freshman sports. KHS has been LOSING local kids to other schools for some time now, with administrators scratching their heads, why? now we give local kids no choice but to go out of Kearny and our JV and Varsity programs to suffer. Hundreds of kids are involved in these programs and this was the first blow to further damage other programs and send kids packing elsewhere.

How about not paying (2) superintendents, not replacing a KHS VP position, having knowledgeable people overseeing million dollar construction projects that keep getting good money thrown after bad money. The (2) super salaries and (1) VP salary alone would SAVE FROSH ATLETICS.

2- Reduce supplies, so cut out what our kids really need to excel in the classroom.

3- Reduce staff......... That will never happen.

Yet, read the Observer from last week. the spending listed is unbelievable!!!! $60,000.00 for furniture at Midland Ave.,$65,000.00 a month to 'store" construction materials which now no one knows how long that will be.

Here is the real kicker, paying an architect $12,000.00 to design plans for repair of (2) field house roofs and LIGHTS FOR FRANKLIN FIELD. There is a time for everything and spending $250,000.00 plus on lights is absolutely insulting to taxpayers, staff (who could be losing their jobs) and KIDS,( who have now lost their FRESHMAN sports. ) So let's see, we are cutting athletic programs, but we need more time for scheduling events on the field. Are you kidding me? There is NO "need" at all, at this time for any of our teams to be using this field after dark, soccer, football, band all have use of KHS stadium for any "needed" night games.

Tough economic times calls for fiscally accountable spending, not wish list spending.

She is receiving her salary for her job as Director of Curriculum and a stipend for being acting superintendent.

how come? why did not the asst super just assume the job, thats the pecking order and no more (extra) money to be paid?

The budget is going to cost the taxpayer.

The board will never change the way it does business.

Backroom deals, neopotism, secret meetings, and of course, let's not forget spending wasted dollars on their wish list and not giving a damn about our children.

Ask yourself are any members of the board professional educators? No, yet they attempt to run the schools. Are any of the board members educated in school construction? No, yet they waste money on construction projects already over budget.

It has been a long time since the BOE has put our children first.

Time for Kearny to elect people who really care about our children. Care about Kearny.

you have the power to change things for our children. Use that power. VOTE.

Not necessarily - the assistant doesn't necessarily "rise" to the position of Super. Dr. Kiss was by-passed several times when people felt she should have moved up there were other Supers hired around her.

Look for candidates that have interest in the school district, our educators and most important our children. Vote for a person who believes the board oversees the schools and to run the schools. Vote for a person who looks out for our schools and children, and not someone who looks to see what can be gained as a board member. Vote for someone who has not one person, be it family or friend who is connected to the school district with a job.

Vote for someone who knows something abiut running a business.

We need new comers who are ready to do good things for all.

I want to see new people step up and run for the BOE.

By the way, the election was moved to the general election because of low voter turn out. But, look at the election results for BOE as compared to the other candidates. Not much of a gain in votes.

different circumstances, Dr. Kiss wanted to be the Permanent Super. This is a situation where the Board decided to put the current Super on PAID administrative leave, which means Mr. Ferarro is still the Super and receiving his Full Pay. When that happens it is written in the Asst Super's contract that in the absence of the Super the ASST SUPER is to assume the duties of the SUPER...........Why do this not happen? The big difference.....tax payers would not have to shell out MORE money, there is no additional costs for the Asst to assume the duties.

Speak to just about any of those employed by the BOE and you'll find out WHY it would not be a good idea to place the asst super in the superintendent position.

no just speak to anybody in Town and you'll find out WHY. This Board only will appoint someone who is their friend and will do what THEY want to do.
