What are the most important problems facing our country? We've been bleeding trillions of dollars overseas and to the oil companies because we haven't researched and developed new energy sources. We're making the planet less habitable long-term. In the United States, our students are no longer competitive with Japanese and Chinese students in math and science, yet not only are we doing nothing to improve our educational system, we're cutting back on teachers. We still don't have a national health care system. We could bring down our unemployment rate very quickly by investing in infrastructure improvements but we refuse because politicians are afraid to invest in our future. The threat of terrorism is very real, and will persist.

But what do we hear and read about in the media, from Fox on the right to MSNBC on the left? These last few weeks, it's all-Zimmerman, all the time. And of course Fox beats the drum for its favorite wedge issue almost daily. Even The New York Times hasn't maintained the high journalistic standards it used to have, though it's head and shoulders above any other newspaper the United States.

And why is journalism in such a sorry state? It's not because journalism schools aren't teaching properly anymore; it's because we the people prefer entertainment over news. We don't want to work at understanding the world. We're lazy, and after years of laziness, we've grown stupid. And so we can be led like so many sheep. 2Stupid4Words is just one example of it.

Correction. What's wrong with our country is the leftists that were elected to government , like zerO. Detroit is just one example of it.

So you don't think energy, climate, education, health care and national defense are important.

You're an idiot.

So when conservative, Republican-led Orange County in California filed for bankruptcy, what did you say then?

In the 1950, President Eisenhower, a Republican, presided over the building of the interstate highway system, a massive federal government program that cost a lot of money. It's one of the best investments we ever made as a country. You couldn't get any positive program through Congress these days, let alone one that big, with the knee-jerk opposition from today's Republicans, who are nothing like Ike. I truly don't understand people who say things like the above from July 22, which aren't at all true, with no concern at all that they're false. And the problem isn't that I can't understand it. We can't build or sustain a country that way, and for all their yelling and screaming about what's wrong with our country, not to mention the blatant disrespect of their fellow citizens, the real problem is their attitude and their unwillingness to be honest. People like "2smart4u," more aptly called 2stupid4words, aren't thinking. They're just reacting, and it's hurting our country and its future and the future of all of us and our children.

The idiot didn't say anything. He just ignored it, like he ignores everything that doesn't fit his fantasy story-line.

Maybe one of these days, it'll dawn on the idiot that we're not making stuff up like he is. We say things because they're true.

Think hard, 2stupid4words. Some people really do think like that. Some people really care about the truth. We know you're not getting that concept but it really isn't all that hard.

Do you think that the loss of manufacturing jobs in the auto industry over the past 3-4 decades, along with the fact that Detroit's population is half what it was in the 1950s when the American auto industry was booming, might have had something to do with it? When you say things, they should be connected to reality.

You are absolutely correct. The real problem is that we have become a Nation of dividers depending on your political views. Over at Fox News the role of their broadcasters is not to report news but to make the news fit their views. MSNBC reports their news with facts that can be verified.

Sadly, people like 2smart and Patriot who I believe to be intelligent people cannot distinguish between fact and fiction because they simply buy into the Drudge's and Limbaugh's who hate the President so they seize upon the rights version of the truth without doing any fact checking. And they give no credit to the fact that Obama was faced with an economy that was on the brink of collapse and managed to at-least get it stabilized. He has had to work with a do nothing Congress that spends more time not working, a Speaker who is afraid he will lose his job if he cooperates in any way with the President and any Republican who sways from the Tea Party ideas is threatened.

I was reading on the web about Detroit's Bankruptcy and they listed 5 Cities and Towns that were in Financial trouble and was shocked to read that Harrison was one of them. Detroit has seen it's manufacturing base shipped overseas and people have moved out. The ones who stayed are the poor both black and white. There are opportunities to rebuild the City back again but the real purpose of the bankruptcy is to bust the City Pension Plan and sell off the assets to private corporations. Outside of Detroit there is Belle Island where people go to swim. Now a developer wants to buy it and turn it into a tax haven for the wealthy. In Pontiac the Emergency Manager sold the Silver Dome for $565,000.00 to a Developer who wants to turn it into a Casino. Coincidentally the plumbing an electrical wiring is worth more than the building was sold for and it was later found that he was a silent partner in the purchase.

Now we see commercials on TV touting the virtues of natural gas and how safe it is to extract it by using chemicals to bust the shale. What they aren't telling you is that the 1 inch concrete used to capture the chemicals are prone to failure and is polluting the ground water making it unsafe to drink. This is one area I disagree with the President.

Solar Energy and Wind Power is a smart and innovative way to solve our electric problems, but in Georgia where the Tea Party is in favor of solar power, the Koch Brothers have interests in keeping the status quo because of their investments in electric and are pumping millions into defeating the idea of solar. So you have one of the founders of the tea party showing that when someone else's interests conflict with theirs they will do whatever is necessary. So much for loyalty.

As long as we continue to argue amongst ourselves politically nothing will ever get done and if both Political Parties stop being afraid of losing their jobs maybe we can actually accomplish something meaningful.

You don't think there is a connection? Foreign automakers never really gained a foothold here until the energy crisis hit and American gas guzzlers couldn't compete with the lighter, more fuel efficient imports. Our automakers still rely on outdated technology-heck, most of the technology for hybrid and electric vehicles was developed here but no one wanted it. So now that it is marketable American companies have to pay more for it.

I agree with most of what you say but I can't call 2stupid2words, a/k/a Patriot (there's an oxymoron! - and a moron) intelligent. First, he has no intellectual depth at all, as is obvious from his posts and his complete failure to engage and follow through on even one point. Second, he has no excuse for allowing himself to be used as a puppet. That's not what an intelligent person does. Third, an intelligent person listens to opposing points of view. 2stupid4words is an idiot.

That's mainly true but the City of Detroit didn't make those decisions.
