This situation was investigated and vetted before Mrs. Lowry agreed to run. Please give up it's over!

I believe you but I'm just curious. What investigation was done? Isn't it more a matter of checking the law? Did she get an advisory opinion?

Guest Typical of Kearny

Sore losers!

So typical of Kearny.............Not a matter of winning or losing, it is a matter of is this allowed by law or not, but for some people it does not matter.

Apples and oranges sore losers.

If it was the Fab 5 who pulled off this move the foolish four would be renting a bi-plane to let everyone know. Jim D would be sending letters everywhere and Gail would be mass emailing and digging through files to prove it !!!

That's because there is no "move" here. She is receiving her sick time payout that she earned and is normal after retirement.

That's precisely why she can't serve on the Board of Education. Either the Doran/Lowry/Lindenfelser ticket didn't check the eligibility requirements of the office they were running for (embarassing) or they were hoping to get one over on the general public (insulting).

And how is she not "eligible"?

You hit the nail right on the head. Ms. Lowry is receiving more than $100,000 spread over five years. More than $20,000 per year in sick pay. There are people on the payroll who are not making that in part-time positions. Time to say goodbye to Ms. Lowry. :(

That was money she earned while working in the Kearny School District. What in God's name does that have to do with her now wanting to give back. BOE is a non paying position. There is no rational to your statement.

Does her check for unused sick days say Board of Education on it? Then whether "she earned it" or not is not the question. She is getting paid by the Board of Education. Sick days are given as a part of the contract that teachers and

administrator have with the Board of Education. If you decide NOT to use the sick days, you can bank them for the future. If you save 200 days, you will receive one year's pay as your reward when you retire. Every fifty days more than 200 that you save,

you get another $10,000--the more you save in groups of fifty the more money you get. This pay is spread over a five year period and paid in one lump sum per year--such as $100,000 divided by five equals $20,000--this would be the lump sum

per year for the five years. Call it apples, oranges, or whatever, it is PAY that this person will be getting for five years. It is income that is taxable--Federal and State.

Can you be a part of the Board of Education and be paid by the same group? The Board of Education is a volunteer position--why should this person be paid and the others not? Please explain?

She is receiving that money now. She is owed over $100,000 still. That makes her ineligible.

Not bad, retire, get a pension and on top of that get over a $110,000.00 paid to you over 5 years ! This is what the Governor is trying to fix, stop milking the Taxpayers.

BTW, it has nothing to do with giving back, it has everything to do with is it allowed or not, plain and simple. If the BOE "gives" her this money up front, now, instead of her waiting for it like everyone else, they are nuts. Talk about circumventing the law, again typical of Kearny.

What about the people of Kearny? We spoke very clearly about who we did and did not want on the BOE. Debbie Lowry won fair and square. If she is disqualified on a technicality, the five stooges had better not try to ram Castelli down our throats. The guy got 700-some votes, while Lowry got over 1800. The fair thing to do if Lowry is disqualified is to put in Esteves, who took fourth place. If the scumbags who created the mess we find ourselves in use this technicality as an opportunity to saddle us with Castelli again, the people will not be happy about it. That is not what elections are supposed to be about. This isn't just about Debbie Lowry. That's the least of it. This is about whether the clear will of the people will be respected and honored.

If the stooges had any sense of decency, they would accept the fact that Moe lost, big, and gracefully turn over power to those whom the people chose.

Esteves?

Esteves came in fourth because he is the mayor's nephew. He did little campaigning.

A few weeks before election day he begins to put out material and signs.

He used platform points of another candidate. Not a word about not showing up for meet the candidates night. But, dad was there taking notes.shameful.What does he stand for? Let's do the right thing, let the voters decide. Special Election is neede.

It doesn't matter why he came in fourth. He got more than double the votes Castelli got. You want a special election because you think Castelli can turn out friends and family and win. But that's not what most people in Kearny want.

No, it's because Lowry is her buddy. If it was a candidate for the "other" side this would be in the media, skywriters, handouts, emails, letters, the PEANUT gallery who come to the BOARD meetings would be demanding to SEAT someone else. But because its their Candidate.........it's OK.

Guest Common sense

Don't know if anyone touched on this, so if I'm repeating anything I apologies. According to the board attorney this board cannot stop her from taking the seat for which she was elected. They can in a very shady and I think unethical way waste tax payers money to challenge her seat. The board of education should not be spending tax payers money for a polical pissing match, that is not what they were elected to do! If a private citizen had a problem with Debbie being elected and thought her retirement pension would result in a conflict of interest it should be up to them to challenge the election result. Don't spend my money to fight against what the people have asked for, and that is a change from the current majority on this pathetic board! Now Mrs Lowry has put forth in a written letter read and put into the record at the last board meeting two options that would allow the people's elected choice to be seated and save the town exorbitant legal fees, and who makes out on those fees the board of education attorney that's who. First option deferr the payments in question to a time when Mrs Lowry is no longer on the board or second option pay her what she is entitled to in a lump sum, which would kill her in taxes but she is willing to do it. Now will this majority of the board heed to the people's voice or will they play their dirty politics. If they play politics and needlessly spend more taxpayers money making the board attorney rich remember all of this next November! People in Kearny are ALOT smarter than you think!
