Guest Guest
What a shame that the biggest news coming out of Kearny is that the town has caved-in once again to the outrageous demands of the B.O.E. and Fire Departments greed and haven't mentioned that Pathmark, one of the towns biggest ratables paying these people by taxation, is shutting it's doors, laying-off hundreds of people. Where is the money going to come from to pay these sky high salaries and benefit packages? Sad but true, property taxes will hit record highs in the next few years. The town may have someone watching the front doors of the towns coffers but the political thieves and associated depts. are stealing out the back door, driving businesses, large and small, out of Kearny at a record pace. No business wants to open in a town where public officials are declaring that the town is broke, the Fire Department is "overwhelmed and people will die," and the Board of Education is an autonomous entity with no control or oversight. Plan your own exit strategies now from this mess of a town because exit visas are imminent for the businesses in town, the main town revenue. The BOE has had 2 consecutive 0% tax increases over the last 2 years, seems like pretty good fiscial management to me. Can't say the same about the town. I may be wrong, but will they not still be paying property tax on the Pathmark property?

Guest guest
The Kearny Firemen could care less how high the taxes in Kearny go up because I think only 2 of them live in Kearny. That's like 3% of the KFD. Remember a while back they called the Kearny residents sheep and they were the wolves coming into town to take the residents money. Nothings changed. The DO NOTHING Rip Van Winkles should be volunteer, but if not $8.50/hour should be top pay without benefits. I personally think further cuts are needed ASAP. Their "job" (I guess) is no more than a high school kid being a lifeguard down the shore in the summer. The only difference is that life guards get drug tested and stay awake while on duty. I am very disappointed with the overly generous new salary settlements. It's not like they have any college degrees or anything. These glorified ditch diggers still get WAY too much. Guest Guest
These morons don't get the fact that the main point is the LOSS OF JOBS. Every lost job is a negative to the economy because all those unfortunate folks are now being paid by the taxpayers. Firemen and the B.O.E. don't have those worries because they have rock solid jobs for life thru nepotism and cronyism and pensions that people in the private sector would kill for. They get around $80,000.00/year or more for life plus medical benefits for life. Same thing for the teachers. They STILL COMPLAIN about that. Retiring at 50 yrs. old with a never ending lifetime pension of $80,000.00 and above, not counting continued raises still isn't enough out of the taxpayers income and property taxes. They care about no one but themselves. BELIEVE IT.
