Guest Al
We desperately need a new police hQ. With all the new development, there should be money allocated from the developers to finance a new HQ. The old one doesn't have enough space. We have to bring prisoners past areas where the public are doing business. the new HQ should be centrally located with enough parking for citizens making reports and for police oficers who need parking spaces. Over 80% of us live out of Town and now must park on the street where we get 2-hour parking tickets. This is unfair. I think a good spot would be at Washington and Harrison where the teachers presently park. Let them get the tickets. They don't live in Harrison but are collecting big salaries while they drive their Jaguars and BMW's to work.

Guest Barney
I agree, there is a pressing need for a new Police HQ. With over 1 billion dollars worth of development planned, its time that the police get modern facilities. The old HQ is not adequate. The Police have done a great job in reducing the crime rate despite having to deal with inadequate facilities. The Police Chiefs have done an excellent job managing scarce resources and the management team should be congratulated. Councilman Dolaghan asked the Mayor and Council to investigate properties to build a new HQ. There are Community Block Grants that can be applied for to fund this endeavor. In addition, the developers should contribute. The Police Officers need the publics support. Lets give it to them.

Guest Guest
As a resident of Harrison. I recently had the displeasure of trying to dispute a 2hr. parking ticket, illagally issued by the Traffic Bureau Sgt., but while I was standing in the Police Station patiently awaiting the busy Sgt., I almost got trampled by a very angry and upset person who was attempting to elude the two police officer's who were bringing him in under arrest. I was forced to press against the plexy glass by the record room and narrowly avoided being struck by this nitwit!! I later found out that this individual had stolen a MV and tried to ram a few police cars in the process.. I know many people have business that needs to be conducted in the only entrance to the police station, but is it truly safe to have criminals being escorted in police Headquarters (most irate) where the public is doing business!! Maybe a new police station would be best, but good luck trying to find property, it will be needed. Be safe.

Read your statement, your saying that 80% of you guys live out of town. You say they should build a new HQ on the teacher parking lot because most of them live out of town. You see anything wrong with that statement? I'm all for you guys having a new HQ but come on, what makes you guys any better than the jaguars and beamers parked there. You guys just happen to have Yukons and Escalades....thats the only difference.
Guest Highly doubtful
Ok - you stated the many of the officers get parking tickets for 2 hour - I'm sorry I was under the impression that the town does allow businesses parking passes for it's employees - wouldn't the police department offer it's employees parking passes. I doubt you are getting tickets for 2 reasons 1 - the officer writing the ticket is your coworker and most likely knows your car 2 - if you do get a ticket I'm sure you walk over to the violations office and them the ticket and tell them to take care of it!!!! You talk about the teachers being from out of town - you have a lot of nerve, jsut as teachers don't want to live in this town because they know what quality of people this town breeds, the town officers live outside of town because they also see on a day to day basis what type of trash lives in this town, why would they want to live here. Guest Barney
Ok, enough with the jokes. Lets get to the crux of the problem. The Police need a modern facility in order to address the pressing problems facing the Town in relation to crime and disorder. The Town can apply for Community Block Grants to help finance the project along with requesting that the developers pay impact fees. In addition, 9 woman have been hired as dispatchers for the Police/Fire Communication Center. They do not have any locker facilities. This is discriminatory and has to be addressed. They are saving the Town money by releasing Police Lieutenants and Fire Captains to be used on Patrol and for firefighting duties. Instead of paying a Police Lieutenant to sit behind a desk at $80,000 per year and a Fire Captain at $90,000 a year, the dispatcher is doing the same job for $25,000. The Fire Department has a modern facility so lets give the police officers one also. They are doing a great job. Lets back them up.

Guest Bright
The Police Headquarters is too small and violates state codes in relation to transport of detainees and facilities for male and female officers. With the addition of 9 females as dispatchers, there has to be adequate and separate facilities for the female employees of the department. In addition, the lone female officers must use an unventilated, unsuitable room that is also used for communication equipment for the police desk as her locker room. Lets give the Officers of the Harrison Police Department a new modern facility so that they can continue to maintain services to the public and reduce crime and disorder in a community that is redeveloping. Guest ha ha ha ha
A police headquarters wouldn't pay taxes (that's what Tom Powell would say, he is on the Redevelopment board that why you should care ; he needs to get his cut); therefore the redevelopment committee would never go for it. Besides it's a legit operation, the mayor and his bandit of thieves wouldn't make any money from the developers on that piece of property.
Guest guest_Guest
The Police don't do enough to earn a new police station. The Street Department is the department thats going to get spoiled, they are the people I see working on Election Day all the time. That's why they just got a few new trucks and they are always getting new equipment. The Mayor has little need for the police force. He can't give people jobs on the force and the police can't really work for him during election time. What does the Police do for the Mayor?
