Guest 2smart4u
The almost trillion dollar stimulus program has been a disaster. Joe Gaffe today said Obama "underestimated" the problem. So what do you do with a failed program? Double down, do it again. The German Chancellor said today Europe is concerned with Obama's massive spending and urged him to stop it. No jobs have been created, unemployment continues to rise and Obama's spending is now outpacing our ability to borrow or print new money. Michelle Obama is trying to do her part to stimulate the economy, she took an AF jet to London to shop at Harrah's Dept. Store. I'm sure it didn't cost more than a half million or so to fly her over there with her security entourage, chump change when your husband's spending trillions almost weekly. Let's not forget the "czars". The news reported this morning Obama just appointed his 34th czar. Obama's doing an end-run around congress and the bobbing headed dems are afraid to speak up. Remember the pledge of transparency in government, an open administration.
Guest Guest
So, 6 years of a war of choice that's accomplished NOTHING of benefit to the US and you're fine with THAT huge expense while your willing to condemn another program after only a few months? WHAT a nitwit!
Guest Guest
The disaster is that we have the problem to begin with. If we had made reasonable investments over the past 30-40 years to develop new energy sources, we wouldn't be bleeding trillions of dollars in oil money at the pump and in the battlefields. If we had made reasonable investments in infrastructure, we would have a stronger footing on which to build. If we had paid attention to our manufacturing base instead of trying to speculate our way to lasting prosperity, we would be in a stronger position to deal with this crisis. If we had reformed health care decades ago, we could be spending the fraction of GDP that other countries are spending on it, instead of spending double. Tragically, we listened to right wingers like you, ignored our needs and now we have a heavy price to pay. But if you think we're dumb enough to listen to the lies and distortions of people like you again, then you're even dumber than we were. Not one dollar of the trillions Obama is spending is directed at energy sources, infrastructure or manufacturing. 1. That's not true. 2. You're missing the point. The stimulus is necessary because long-term needs were neglected, causing the economy to go into a tailspin.
Bryan
The disaster is that we have the problem to begin with. If we had made reasonable investments over the past 30-40 years to develop new energy sources, we wouldn't be bleeding trillions of dollars in oil money at the pump and in the battlefields. New energy sources don't get developed by magic. There is absolutely no guarantee that investments then would have led to a breakthrough more efficient than using fossil fuels, and there remains no such guarantee today. When the breakthrough doesn't happen, the investment is called a loss. Obama wants the United States to roll those dice on our future. If we had made reasonable investments in infrastructure, we would have a stronger footing on which to build. Like what? Which highway systems and/or bridges are failing our economy? I don't think you have any idea. Most likely you're just parroting the president's line. The rhetoric you point out exposes the dishonest of this "stimulus" package. Supposedly it is supposed to provide a jolt to the economy, but the "stronger footing" takes years. So the jolt occurs in slow motion, kind of like the jolt of a slug accelerating across a sidewalk. Most of us on the right think that Obama used the pretense of emergency stimulus simply to justify instituting the same old expensive programs that liberals always want to fund. Apparently many liberals actually think that highway projects do provide rapid economic stimulus. If we had paid attention to our manufacturing base instead of trying to speculate our way to lasting prosperity, we would be in a stronger position to deal with this crisis. By "paid attention to our manufacturing base" are you suggesting that investors should have speculated on U.S. manufacturing? Or what? If we had reformed health care decades ago, we could be spending the fraction of GDP that other countries are spending on it, instead of spending double. How do you lower the percentage of GDP spent on health care without correspondingly shrinking the GDP? You do realize that health care products and service account for a large portion of the GDP in the first place, right? Don't fall for the Democrats' shell game, people. Tragically, we listened to right wingers like you, ignored our needs and now we have a heavy price to pay. But if you think we're dumb enough to listen to the lies and distortions of people like you again, then you're even dumber than we were. This is too much. Which of your supposed needs were ignored? You wanted other people to start paying for your health care decades ago, or what? Your post, Guest, offers the impression that you know exceedingly little about economics. It's too easy to suppose that the lack of emphasis on economics in our schools is a plot by the Democrats designed to decrease resistance to their outlandish fiscal policies. Seriously? Do YOU seriously believe Iraq will be US friendly once the $$$ flow stops? You can buy a whore, which we did, you can't buy a loyal friend. I believe Iraq will ultimately ally itself with Iran and become a greater threat than ever.
Bryan
Do YOU seriously believe Iraq will be US friendly once the $$$ flow stops? Yes. Your question suggests that you do not, and perhaps I am supposed to assume your answer to my question to you on that basis. Iraq does not trust Iran. Iraqis are generally Arabs, Iranians are generally Persians. The eight years they spent at war with one another cemented that mistrust. Iraqis now have a general experience with the United States as the fair player in the game, trying to balance the interests of each of Iraq's major factions. The Kurds love us. We allowed the Shiites to assume majority power. We endeavored to institute political protections for the minority Sunnis and encouraged forgiveness for former Baathists. Iraq now has what is probably the closest thing to a representative democracy in the Middle East (not counting Israel but you can count Israel if you want). Currently, Iraqis can look at what is going on in Iran to see what happens when the extremists rule. Iraq has transformed into our natural Arabic ally in the region. Their culture has moved into step with ours more than for any other Arabic nation. You can buy a whore, which we did, you can't buy a loyal friend. I believe Iraq will ultimately ally itself with Iran and become a greater threat than ever. The most powerful Shiite cleric in the region has condemned the Iranian regime. Reconcile that with your prediction. I'll just chuckle in the background.
Bryan
Every investment is uncertain but without investments in research there is no progress. Obviously. But investments in research can occur even if it isn't the government doing the investing, and the breakthroughs do not necessarily happen because they were purchased through overwhelming dedication of capital. The bulk of investment takes place after the breakthrough, when investors see the value of the idea and put their money behind it with the reasonable expectation of getting something back (profit). Obama's plan turns that mode of investment on its head. The investment in this case precedes the breakthrough and is apparently expected to produce the needed breakthroughs. You're an idiot. We'll see.

Some PR BS spewed by the lying scum that started this war of choice? Mark my words, when the $$$ stop the friendship stops, much like with our so called 'friends' the Saudis who while happily taking our $$$ for oil use those $$$ to fund radical Islamic schools preaching hatred of western culture. The condemnations will stop when the money dries up. There's no reconciling to do. You just ignored the point.
