Guest Guest
Wouldn't a countywide fire department save everybody in the county money instead of having a bunch of separate departments?
Guest Guest
Wouldn't a countywide fire department save everybody in the county money instead of having a bunch of separate departments? in theory it should save everyone money, but when you look at the north hudson fire department, which is kinda of the model for this type off thing, its turning out to costing towns more money then when they had their own departments..i think union city is paying millions more then they were before they joined.. well this is what the jersey journal stated.. Yeah, good idea. When you wake up in the middle of the night and your bedroom is filled with smoke, call Hoboken.

It's easy, that fire house is centrally located and engine 3 located there responds to every fire and every medical aid call. If traffic was backed up on Rodgers Blvd. the response time from Headquarters would be too long, sometimes. I've long thought that a West Hudson Fire Dep't. would be the answer. Two (not 3) houses in Kearny, one in South Kearny, one in Harrison, and one in East Newark (ambulance and engine 3 perhaps). Makes too much sense, but the politicans would lose local control. Same thing for Street Dep't., Police, Health, Violations, Library, Board of Education, etc. They'll never do it because where would they put the people who can't hold a job in the private sector that they owe favors. So they hire these flunkies or their kids.

Do you think when North Hudson has a call in uptown North Bergen they call Companies from Union City near the Jersey City border. There still would be firehouses over on this side of the county. Just 1 Chief instead of 6 in the county and every town would be paying into salaries for the men not just one town taking the burden.
