Obama can't think faster than his tongue can wag. He insulted all of the State of PA., "they're bitter

and cling to guns and religion", et al. By Nov. McCain will have a cake walk into the White House.

Dream on. Obama set this up, and he's going to be our president. This was a brilliant political move, and his opponents took the bait.

Obama has to have this discussion to win rural and small-town voters. Everyone knows he's right. Republicans have been using guns and religion to pry off parts of the natural Democratic constituency. To gain the maximum number of votes, a Democrat must re-orient their thinking on these issues, so that they vote for what's really in their interests instead of wasting their votes on these non-issues that the president can't do much about.

Obama can't do it on his own. So instead, he feigned a gaffe, which induced his opponents to talk about it. Now he can say what he wants to say, and people will listen because it's all over the news. Anyone who thinks that he can't make a compelling argument about these issues is delusional. Very likely he will give another major address on the issue, similar to the one he gave on race, and again it's going to be honest and it's going to win raves.

You mean the same McCain who's against the majority of the public on the war, and admits to having little knowledge about the economy, the two biggest issues to Americans in this election? Dream on.

At least Obama doesn't have tons of people coming out to tell the public that he's unstable and has a temper. Also, McCain's the only candidate with the 'honor' of having called a fellow party member a "shit head". There's a diplomat for you...I'm sure we'll avoid lots of attacks on American soil by calling our enemies shit heads. If McCain would call a fellow Republican that, just imagine the kind of crap he'd get this country into when it comes to talking to foreign leaders.

I like the way he brilliantly talked out of both sides of his mouth on trade. NAFTA bad. Poor religious gun nuts in Pennsylvania bitter about free trade.

Obama has to have this discussion to win rural and small-town voters. Everyone knows he's right.

And at the same time they're saying that obviously he didn't mean it like that. It's hilarious to watch. Not only did he not mean it like that, he was exactly right (see Cafferty especially on that one).

Republicans have been using guns and religion to pry off parts of the natural Democratic constituency.

Makes sense when the Democrats at the same time are using guns and religion to shed their own constituency. Roman Catholics voted Democrat overwhelmingly until Democrats made Roe v. Wade their baby--err--fetus. It was years before Republicans reached out to those alienated Catholics.

To gain the maximum number of votes, a Democrat must re-orient their thinking on these issues, so that they vote for what's really in their interests instead of wasting their votes on these non-issues that the president can't do much about.

Okay, so what how is the poor Pennsylvania religious gun-nut supposed to vote if he's irrationally fearful of free trade and Obama is running around criticizing NAFTA? Is he supposed to take heart from the Obama campaign's admissions to Canadian officials that their anti-NAFTA rhetoric is insincere (apparently done just to pander to voters)?

Welcome to a new form of politics.*

The baggage is building up for Obama. The rookie is straining under the weight. Ideologues like Paul can't bear the thought that Obama isn't the guy they've made him in their dreams, so they come up with these hilarious rationalizations.

*maybe Obama contradicts himself on free trade intentionally so that people will begin talking about it and then he can come out and tell us all what to think about it for real?
