Guest Guest
Residents of the town of kearny if you require help with a quick response call 201-991-1400. That is the direct line to the fire department. This is the quickest way to get a fire engine responding to your house in case of an emergency. You can call 911 but three other calls have to be made before the fire department receives the call. Who knows maybe a mulch fire can be put out before it turns into a raging fire or a life can be saved because of the extra minute or two. They ask what the emergency is and call the appropriate department. It is easier for people to remember 911 then having to remember the different departments numbers. Most of the time it works. So the 911 operator is in Kearny somewhere and then they say if it is a fire call the fire department? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, the 911 Operator is at the Sheriff's office (Duncan Ave) in Jersey City. THAT is the 911 call center for the county. When you call 911 they get the nature of the call, and transfer while you're on the line to them to the appropriate municipality, as well as make the call for Paramedics in the appropriate circumstances. in Kearny the 911 calls are fielded in South Kearny by the desk officer there, who makes the other notifications. It slows the process down in some cases, but it has it's advantages too, mainly in that EVERY 911 call comes back with a location now, whether it's a street address, or in the case of a Cell Phone, a general location. Before the Enhanced 911 system went into effect, the only way to try and find out where a call came from was to go therough the phone company, which could take up to an hour. Guest Guest
THEN WHY DOESNT THE TOWN GETS ITS OWN 911 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> the 911 system is administered by the state, and mandated county by county.
Guest Guest
don't call Kearny EMS unless you have 15-20 minutes to spare. While you are waiting you can chat with the Kearny Fire Department who show up within minutes, stabilize, and then just hang around waiting for an ambulance. Most probably HFD or NA EMS will arrive sooner or later.. a good solution to the problem..... have Kearny Fire show up with an ambulance...WOW problem solved that was easy
