Guest U
The HPD has itself in a real hole now. No matter who is on the council, the following trend will continue thanks to the cult following of spaghetti arms years ago as PBA leader that started the downward spiral. No promotions for at least 5 to 10 years, many patrol still doing the corners at their retirements, no new equiptment, no repect from the from the Mayor or the people, and continued concessions at contract time. You have no backing from anyone and nowhere to run for help. The guys that just took the sgt. exam are out out luck and $3000 because even if you come out #1 you will NOT get promoted, or get slapped down like ** and **. That must sting, but you will still kiss the Mayors butt anyway. The manpower is at dangerous levels risking your lives and your families future and you cannot even do anything about this! Great union. Throw some more "PBA FORMALS" and make the Mayor the man of the year so he can laugh at you even more. You can even have ***** as your Seargent at Arms. Whoops, no you can't. Gotta go. Later. KOTW Note: The above post was edited for content.

Guest Guest
This is actual a typical syndrome similar to battered women. The more the abuser slaps down the harder the abused tries to please them. It's our world. Anyhow, your remarks are just speculation (at best). I'm starting to agree with those who say Harrison is a lazy arse town. Everyone complains and no one does anything. In my optimistic world, the redevelopment will change harrison for the better. Bring back the buzz that made it the beehive but this time with shops and people not factories. I agree there should be more cops but how do you suppose you pay them? The redevelopment is a risk... I agree. So is the Arena in Newark but it's the hope that they will pull us forward that keeps me FOR them. If Harrison continued the way it was, it would have turned into slums like Newark. As a side note: You may believe by reading this that I am a supporter of the Mayor and his posse but in reality I can barely stand ANY of them. I DO NOT believe the redevelopment was looked at from every angle before it began resulting in many wrong decisions and mishaps. They took a grasp at the first thing that would 'fix' Harrison without considering more logical fixes.

The PBA always puts the members of the Harrison Police Dept. first and does not discriminate against your union affiliation.. You got nice raises and a great schedule thanks to the PBA..but were not looking for a thank you, we are looking out for your best interest. As for the Mayor and the rest of the bobble heads, they are the ones putting the safety of our resdients and Officer's at risk.. The PBA is and has been at war with the Mayor and DCA over there half assed rulings, that stated that we don't need new officers, new patrol cars, or new communications equipment. As for the PBA Formal you should attend we have a great time and your welcome to attend the next one. Please don't hate the palyers, hate the game! If you should have any suggestions on how the PBA can help you feel free to contact one of the Officers..
Guest Guest
Its a dam shame what the Mayor and his 2 job cronies have done to the PD. Wants to add 14,000 to 22,000 new residents and a new Soccer Stadium with 25,000 seat capacity, but he does not see a need for new officers. He really has to pull his head out of his ass!! New High School where the PD radios don't work!!! Don't blame anyone but the assholes you vote for and allowed to do this!!!

We had a lease progarm in effect where all the patrol cars were replaced after 3 years. New ones were purchased each year. We had a fully trained SWAT team. What happend to that? We had a 5 Officer Traffic Safety Unit that did a good job. Now 3 of the Officers are replaced by meter maids. The PBA negotiated our severence pay for unused sick and vacation days away. They allowed the number of supervisors to be decreased and they allowed civilians to take Officers jobs. All because the leadership of the PBA used all of their sick and vacation days. Now, they are all in the DB, while the guys on patrol work shorthanded and do the dirty work. Finally, the supervisors got smart and said enough of listening to career Patrolman and formed their own bargaining unit under the FOP. Now hopefully, they will all act as supevisors and not be influenced by their underlings. Where is the leadership? A fish rots from its head down and that's what's happening here. Guest Guest
The downward spiral that you refer to and the lack of promotions began under Chief Greene. He and his Admin. Officer infromed the DCA that they could run the Department with only 45 Officers. Never once during Chief Greene's tenure did he ask to replace a retiring Sgt, Lt, Capt or Dep Chief. I recall the PBA awlays asking promotions only to be denied by the Chief then the Mayor. The PBA has been fighting the Mayor and Council for years over several issues, I guess when your fighting people that only care about themselves IE: Jobs on the Town, County, Board of Ed, Redevelpoment , Housing Authority and Passaic Valley, why should they worry about the safety of the residents and the Officers that protect them. Yes, there is light at the end of the Tunnel "The United States Attorney can not deny or confirm that Harrison is under investigation". Can you say incidtment = short hopefully long stay at United States Bureau of Prisons located @ Fort Dix NJ. PBA has always helped any officer regardless of Union affililation just ask the Capts. The PBA negotiated what was good for the many not the few. Just ask several Officers who had bad accidents or heatlth problems, instead of being forced to retire they are aloud to recover and come back. But the most glaring reason is because some other Officers and Town employees milked the Town for 250K + is why the Town requested the sick time be negoiated in the first place, you must have missed that contract meeting. Also you reciceved a nice raise and the Supv. got an even hire raise thanks to the PBA. "Finally the Supv's got smart" then why would they agree to only one supv off at a time. They were handed a slam dunk grievance from the PBA and did nothing with it, now they are crying. How about the Capt's, the PBA aslo one that one and now they are moved again and asking the PBA for their paperwork. That's pretty funny just think Supv's asking career Patrolman for help and advice. A request was made for Deputy Chiefs and it was denied. It was the DCA that wanted a reduction in manpower and it was fought by the Police Adm and manpower was maintained. New equipment was purchased each year. And, the Public Works Dept. was not in charge of maintaining the police cars.
Guest Guest
why is it that other police depts are up to speed with their equipment. The HPD is OBVIOUSLY in dire of need of new equipment. IE: computers in the cars which will make it easier to do the job by completing reports in the car and doing plate checks,RADIOS that work in the New High SChool, new cars that run properly. Wake up taxpayers with all this redevelopment why has the town not had a DEVELOPER pay for any new upgrades to the police and fire depts, they got the land for basically nothing due to eminant domain. It is quite obvious that sooner than later all this mess will be here and the police and fire depts will STILL have the same shitty outdated equipment!!!!!!!! let your voice be heard. Guest ONE WHO KNOWS
WHEN YOUR ON WELFARE, YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO THE WELFARE DIRECTOR. THE DCA GAVE HARRISON 4.5 MILLION TO BALANCE THEIR BUDGET. THEY AUDITED EVERY DEPARTMENT AND FOUND THAT THE HPD HAD TOO MANY CHIEFS AND NOT ENOUGH INDIANS. THEY DEMANDED THAT A NEW TABLE OF ORGANIZATION BE FORMULATED WHICH RESULTED IN THE PRESENT NUMBER OF SUPERVISORS AND OFFICERS. THEY ALSO WANTED CIVILIANS AS DISPATCHERS TO RELEASE OFFICERS FOR PATROL,AND WANTED TO REDUCE THE HPD MANPOWER TO LESS THEN 45 OFFICERS. IT WAS FOUGHT BY THE POLICE ADMINISTRATION, AND THE TOTAL WAS SET AT 56 SWORN OFFICERS, 5 CIVILIAN DISPATCHERS, 2 RECORD CLERKS AND A DRIVER TO TRANSPORT CITIZENS TO DOCTOR VISITS ETC. WHEN THE ONLY CAPTAIN RETIRED, THERE WAS A RECOMMENDATION TO MAKE 2 DEPUTY CHIEFS WHICH WAS DENIED BY THE POLICE CHAIRMAN WHO INSTEAD MADE 3 POLICE CAPTAINS. THE CHIEF CAN ONLY RECOMMEND PROMOTIONS, THE MAYOR AND TOWN COUNCIL HAVE THE FINAL SAY, BUT ARE PROHIBITED TO MAKE OTHER PROMOTIONS BY THE DCA WHO CONTROL THE MONEY. THE TOWN IS STILL ON WELFARE. LETS HOPE REDEVELOPMENT WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

Guest FOP
The FOP even got one of its members full vacation and sick time paid out after the contractual giveaway so you see they can make their own deals like the Chief made. Lets hear it for those 25 year patrolman created by the PBA. Maybe you can have a corner named after you for 25 years of stagnation and humiliation like another patrolman. Salary about $114,000 a year. But the glorified "firemen have to take only one exam to gain the same salary". Is that really fair to the taxpayers of Harrison? Yes, it may have helped a few cops legitimately, but a good number of cops that came to work everyday (both supervisors & officers) and didn't call out sick lost a great deal, and got nothing to show for it. But thanks to the PBA, we can all call out sick during our last year of duty. Like somebody said in a recent article "I didn't make the rules"

The PBA had fought against even having a D/Chief's test. Where have you ever heard of a union fighting against promotions? If the D/Chief's had been made then there would have been a chance to make promotions from the other Supervisors lists. The blame lies at the PBA's doorstep. The PBA President and the Supervisors representative were the 2 who went to the Mayor's office to ask not to have the D/Chief's test. Now 1 of them is on top of the Captain's list and it's running out. What comes around goes around and he has only himself to blame. Although, I believe the # 1 candidates on the Capt. Lt's and Sgt's lists should be made.

Stop your crying. Take the fire test next time it comes up. Then you will have some supervision to keep you in your place.
