EARTH DAY CELEBRATION

In celebration of Earth Day, the Kearny Public Library will present a program on Wednesday, April 27, 2005 entitled, “Surrounded by Water –Caring for your Watershed.” The program will be held at 4:00p.m.at the Main Library and is for children in grades 3-6.

Cara Monkowski and Michael Guerrino, Watershed Ambassadors, will provide five hands-on projects relating to water and watershed issues. They include activities called “H2Olympics,” “Salt Marsh Players” and “Water Wonders,” “A Dynamic Watershed,” and “ Water Address.”

The New Jersey Watershed Ambassadors Program is a community-oriented AmeriCorps program and has been hosted by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection since September, 2000. The program helps to raise awareness about water and watershed issues in New Jersey. These issues are particularly relevant to Kearny which is bordered by two important rivers, the Passaic and the Hackensack.

Attendance is limited to 35 children. Pre-registration is required by calling the Library at 201-998-2666.
