Guest bLUETIDE Posted February 16, 2005 Report Share Posted February 16, 2005 The PBA were the one's responsible for the elimination of the Deputy Chief rank in the HPD. When the test was called for, wirearms and his superior counterpart ,switchcliffe) went to Mayor McDonough and requested that the test be cancelled. After confering with the Chief, the Mayor had the test held. After the results came in and switchcliffe came in last, the dynamic duo lobbied against making any Deputy Chiefs in the HPD. The Chief had recommended that the top two be made. So, the reason that the Police can't get their men promoted is because of the actions of wirearms and switchcliffe. The PBA was against making Deputy Chief promotions after the top 2 who came out on the test were FOP members. If they were promoted it would have opened the ranks for 2 more Captains, 2 more Lts,. and 2 more Sgts. Then the PBA sponsored ticket blitz was a major boondoggle. Who ever heard of a PBA being against promotions to the 2nd highest rank. They have only themselves to blame. Meanwhile the Kearny PD is looking to promote their third Deputy Chief. There is too much rank already so why have any more promotions that are not needed. In the past, the PBA stated that they did not want promtions to be made. Lets listen to them for once and remember the ticket blitz, no cops showing up at the mayors cocktail party, the vote of no confidence, the impeach the mayor campaign which was started by the very people on the top of the list, etc.... As far as being against the the DC rank, 90% of the dept was against Capt. Coverup being promoted. Let's quote Chief Killalot " I can run this Dept. with forty officers." and the best part is he put it on paper to the state. So when the Dept is understaffed how can you promote. Then one of those three tried to become a DC, but 97% of the Dept. balked and his chances were destroyed and he retired thank god. Kearny PD apples and oranges the third DC cost them (1) Sgt.
