  1. Excellent! I know that it took months to get to this point and I am sure there were many heated discussions across the US because of this topic (KOTW included), but I am glad that both sides supported the other in the end. Life is a learning experience and sometimes it takes a situation like this to get everything back on track. I'm glad that both sides were able to find middle ground-
  2. There are already cell phone towers in Kearny. Though I didn't notice anything near any of the schools when I took a look at the info listed for Kearny. Please see the link for additional details on where they are located. http://www.cellreception.com/towers/towers.php
  3. I don't believe that current BOE members can publically speak about how they may feel about the issue. I also think its intersting that you suggest they publically state how they feel, when you are not a registered user. What is your stance on the issue Guest?
  4. One more comment on my last post. It is frustrating to hear of it after the event (though I would not have been able to get there from VA either way). I am sure the administrators are very busy, but it would have been nice to hear of this meeting, prior to it taking place.
  5. I was wondering how things went last week. Was this event specifically to discuss the current Kearny issue or a normal meeting? How was the turnout and the conversation? Thank you-

Break legs this weekend! I hope the weather holds up for you! I heard the dress rehearsal with the seniors was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Well done folks!
  7. Guest, I never suggested you call the family patriotic or unpatriotic. I never suggested that it was ethical or not ethical. I apologize if you thought that was what I was suggesting. I was simply trying to point out that this issue is about an issue in public school classroom with a particular person, not about religion in general. I was also trying to illustrate that a sibling's college decision has no bearing on this thread. What if the sibling fought to attend this college against the parent's wishes? What if the sibling was a devout Methodist and only applied to UMC schools? What if the family suggested the sibling attend this specific college because of programs of study offered? I raise these questions since I went through a similar process when I choose to attend a Jesuit affiliated college for its science and athletic programs. I am not saying that the sibling went through those actions, but why attack a subject with no background? Why not ask the question instead of attack? It appears that many of the threads are accusations, finger pointing and quotes, which is why I have not posted much. I believe that all sides have participated in fueling the fire creating the heated discussions on the board today. The one thing that does bother me about this particular thread is that it appears you are involving a sibling/college student who has not weighed in on this issue at all. We do not know how the sibling ended up attending a religiously oriented school nor what the sibling’s personal beliefs are, yet we have not problem throwing them into the mix. If the question is to the parents, then ask it and I am sure that a response will be provided.
  8. With all due respect Guest. I'm not sure I follow your thought. I may or may not agree with the approach of the situation by the LaClairs, but they have been very clear that this is not an attack on religion, but an issue with where the conversations took place and the person involved in the conversation. Where siblings choose to go to school is of no relevance to this discussion. I fully support debate and thought-provoking conversation, but I cannot tolerate a sibling being pulled into this situation, nor the suggestion that the parents pushed their child to attend a religiously affiliated school due to money. Truth be told, if a child is offered "nearly a full scholarship" chances are that similar offers were also available from other schools. Honestly- does it matter? Why overtly insinuate that the LaClairs are anti-religion? Why involved a sibling in this discussion?
  9. Paul, I am not sure how to best respond to your question. Anonymity is relative. I am sure that if I walked the halls of Kearny High School (KHS) I would know exactly who said what on that tape. The students may be anonymous to someone in a different place, but the students in that class are exposed in that school. Are you aware if any of the students raised this concern to the BOE or administration? In my original post above I was just trying to understand if the BOE policy was put in place in order to protect teachers from this very situation or to protect the students. It is not necessarily about anonymity, it is about fostering a safe environment so a student can learn. Since the tapings became public I wonder if the amount of class participation has dropped at KHS.
