Guest Guest
If the people on this web site don't like like Harrison, or the Town workers, or their salaries, then move. But, I guess the next Town you move to will be just the same.Stop with it's only in Harrison. It's everywhere. Accept in other Towns the workers' do less and get paid more. THAT"S THE STATE OF NEW JERSEY FOR YOU.LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT.......

People look out for and help their neighbors, the same can't be said about everywhere.

Harrison could always be betterr with a different administration. Why move, just make Harrison better.
Guest Guest
I'm a life long resident of this town and remember the times past of a different and happy town. Harrison has and is going thru some big changes and some are viewed with contentment and others not so good. I'v notice a big change in the class of residents that have setteled in town and see the town slipping further into a sewer. The main aves.are looking more run down. Just walk on Harrison Ave. when the schools are let out and just listen to the conversations and see the behavor of the children. The profanity and the threatning demenor of these individuals is a shame. If this reflects homelife , then the only thigs missing in the new redevelopment of this town is the doublewide trailers and the metal roof leantoo's. You need a better quality of citizens to have redevelopment to succeed and I don't think the town as it stands today can attract a better class of residents, and so like manny other residents that see the writing on the wall , I too will be making plans to relocate from this dying town..... ALL WE NEED ARE CLEANER STREETS, THEY'VE NEVER BEEN WORSE. WITH ALL THE WORKERS IN THE D.P.W. YOU'D THINK WE'VE HAVE THE CLEANEST STREETS IN N.J. It would also help if the traffic lights were timed a little better, WAIT ISN'T THIS IN THE D.P.W. ALSO??? Is anyone in charge in this dept., if so what do they do all day?? I question whether mayor and council really see this and care. I think not.

LAST YR, BY THE LITTLE LEAGUE, I SAW A HEALTHY, YOUNG WOMAN IN HER 20'S , PARKED, ARRANGING HER TRUNK, THROW A LARGE PAPER SODA CUP & MEAL SUPPLES FROM A FAST FOOD PLACE, OUT OF THE TRUNK INTO THE STREET, NEAR THE CURB; SHUT THE TRUNK & DRIVE OFF. there's a good chance that she was a 'product' of Harrison High School a few yrs ealier. Guest Guest
I have to disagree with the original poster. My family grew up in Harrison, Jersey City, and a few other towns around the area when these towns were primarily white (I'm not trying to start a race war here so just continue reading). I however grew up in another region of New Jersey much different from the industrialized and "city-like" feel of this region, which is exactly why I chose to move here in the first place. My former location was small, peaceful, and seemingly perfect, which is why there was nothing to ever do, and I was bored of the Suburban life. It was also a diverse place, but not to the extent of having language barriers like this area. I complain every so often to my family about how it's sad to see how so many of Harrison and Kearny's original residents have gone, and how many of the current inhabitants either don't know how, or refuse to speak English, and assume everyone should know Spanish (I've run into this situation many times personally so this is based solely off expierences and not blind judgement). My Grandmother was able to get me to recently see however that the reason the original citizens of these regions had gone was because they've bettered themselves, and moved out to better living areas. If you're unsatisfied with these conditions then move, because I can tell you first-hand there are better places to live if you truly don't care for Harisson. I however am content with the look, and feel of the town as it's radically different than from where I'm from.

There is another answer, "If you don't like it, change it." A new administration is what this town needs. One that doesn't keep raising taxes and water bills to the point it means high rents, and the only persons that can pay them are "section 8" people. Who with money wants to move into a town that is a special needs district, a distressed city, and an Abbot district with high taxes and water bills? Everyone wants a better life for their children. Is Harrison High the best School for your children? Does Harrison provide the best recreational areas for you and your children? If people keep leaving because they don't like Harrison, how are things ever going to get better. For those of us that stay the answer is "change." Isn't "Change" the Democrats' slogan? It is also true that Harrison is a good place to live, at least I think so. However, people live in their communities for all kinds of reasons: family ties, job security, familiarity, or sometimes just lack of imagination. They don't have to love where they live, and no one can force them either to love their community or to leave. "Love it or leave it" is a stupid, in-your-face slogan. It's an arrogant remark, which reflects a lack of appreciation for why people do things. It's a thoughtless slogan best left to the ignorant. Perhaps the "love it or leave it" crowd should move to one of those places if they're so bothered by all the complaining here. Ironic, isn't it. There's Peter B., chr. of redevelopment, he will be running the parking concession along with Joe Comprelli at Red Bull Stadium or we can contact the Catman who is in charge of Tips and Clips on the DPW or call the top floor of the Casino across from Holy Cross and ask for Donald Trump, aka. Mayor Ray for some answers!
