With all the money the are getting for Dr's renting they can afford too. Also if people have surgery they can at least spend the night there if necessary. It's a shame it's sitting there empty,yet people can still have surgery. And the surgical unit is fantastic. The licensing requirements ar such that the building would probably have to be torn down and rebuilt in order to get an operating license. You have to remember that these older hospitals all operated on grandfather clauses, and eventually they get to the point where they CANT keep going. This is Why Jersey City Medical Center was moved from its old location to a new one, the Old building simply couldnt keep up with the new licensing requirements. St Barnabas Closed WHH on the premis that it was losing them money, there is ZERO chance that they would put the amount of money back into it to bring it up to Spec to operate today. When the Clara Maass board spoke at the meeting at the high school before they closed West Hudson, they said that transporrtation back and forth to Clara Maass would be provided with an hourly van. WHAT HAPPENED TO IT? WITH A LOCAL HOSPITAL LIKE WH, lower-income SENIORS COULD PAY $3-4 AT THE MOST for a cab, IF THEY HAD TO GO TO THE EMERGENCY & COME HOME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. hOW ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO GET TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM And HOW DO THEY REURN HOME, ESPECIALLY IN THE LATE EVENING??? many can't affor more than $3 ea way. WHERE IS THE "social services" TRANSPORTATION AID FOR THEM, SINCE CLARA MAASS took our 'local' hospital away. I bet that they planned that MERGER 'deliberately, already 'knowing' & 'planning' to CLOSE West Hudson after a few yrs. and get their COMPETITION 'out of the way"; since West Hudson was 'eating' into THEIR TERRITORY and taking 'Needed" PATIENTS away from their 'SERVICES" & POCKETBOOK!!! St Barnabas Bought WHH pure and simple, as the owner they ahd every right to close it. MY problem with St B is that they tried to say WHH was losing them money, when for the 5 years previously they had claimed that WHH was one of their top earner facilities. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They probably did buy it to get control of that little bit of tiny competition; with the plan to shut it down a few yrs later when it wouln't appear as 'planned deliberately' and add all of the West Hudson patients to their hospitaal.
