Guest assg Posted November 5, 2005 Report Share Posted November 5, 2005 Traffic What is going on with the traffic in Harrison? It is impossible to get out of this city in less than half hour at 8am!! I believe that one of the problems is that the crossing guards think they are cops and keep running the traffic. The other day I was stopped by a crossing guard and the light was green for me! I understand that the kids have to be at the school on time, but come on!! People also have to be at work on time! The kids also have to learn that they cannot cross the street on red light… apparently some crossing guards don’t know that. And why there are so many? Are they not smart enough to run a corner by themselves or the city is so rich that can afford it? It doesn’t look like it. I am sorry, I am just venting! Guest guest Posted November 5, 2005 Report Share Posted November 5, 2005 THE CROSSING GUARDS NEED TO BE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STRET NOT ON THE CORNER AFRAID TO CROSS ANYONE.ON SOME OF THESE CORNERS THESE CROSSING GUARDS ARE ON THE CORNER WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BEING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET.THE OTHER DAY I WAS ON ONE CORNER WITH TWO CROSSING GUARDS AND A HAD THE LIGHT AND A CAR WAS TURNING I STOOD RIGHT THERE YOU THINK FOR A SECOND THE CROSSING GUARD WOULD TELL THE CAR TO WAIT.SHE WAS SO BUSY GETTING THE LATEST GOSSIP ABOUT THE TOWN AND EVERYONE SHOULD CARE LESS ABOUT THE PEDESTRAINS IN THE CROSSWALK.SEND THESE CROSSING GUARD BACK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET WHERE THEY BELONG.THE CORNERS ARE NOT THERE STREET GET IN THE MIDDLE.IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THE JOB FIND ONE YOU WOULD LIKE.TO BE AFRAID OR A STATUE THAT IS NOT THE JOB FOR YOU.YOU ARE THERE TO PROTECT AND CROSSING THE PUBLIC. As for Crossing Guards, I happen to be one of them and 280 is a big part of the problem with the Traffic in the mornings.I would like to let you know that DRIVERS CONSTANTLY BLOCK THE CROSSWALKS IN THE MORNINGS.There as days where the corner I work at is in TOTAL GRID LOCK! IT is not us Crossing Guards that cause this Problem! I also see many people DRIVERS making RIGHT TURNS ON RED,WHEN THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSE TO! Also MANY DRIVERS GOING THROUGH RED LIGHTS. I have had times where I am STANDING in the MIDDLE of the STREET and DRIVERS JUST TOTALLY IGNORE ME,because they want to get out of the TRAFFIC to get to work.Just to VENT Myself a little PEDESTRIANS ARE FIRST!!! Lets build 7,000 more housing units in this little square-mile town. Lets say 2 cars per family trying to get onto 280 in the morning. That means 14,000 more cars added to the traffic jam. They are there only to safely cross school children and to ensure that some idiot who is running late for work because they did not leave home early enough doesn't plow them over. School crossing guards are not trained in traffic control, that is the job of a police officer. Unfortunately the town does not have enough officers to cover all these posts. You should be happy that there are decent people willing to work for next to nothing to safely cross your children. What should they build below 280 if there are very few industries interested in Harrison.....America is no longer a manufacturing power - Asia, India, etc....Times change so what would be better than housing. I understand the more housing = more cars, but what is your solution! complaining is great, but only complaining gets this community nowhere. Offer Solutions to the issues you quickly state.....that will help Harrison and promote change. GO to town meetings and vote, and if you do both get others to do the same - drive them to vote and town meetings.... just offer solutions to follow you're complaints I HAVE THE SOLUTION !! Do you expect to zoom thru town at 8am, you're mistaken. As for the crossing guards, they do a great job. Drivers totally ignore their presence and they have minimal police backing. I think everyone should spend a morning and rush hour at Bergen St and FER. You want to see chaos. This is even with police presence. Modern day traffic signals would help tremendously. Currently, for a busy intersection traffic is allowed to make left turns while heavy pedestian traffic is crossing at the same time.
