Guest Guest
The post about Dan Kelly and the food program brings something to mind. The Police have the Christmas Angel project in which the police officers BUY TOYS WITH THEIR OWN MONEY, in some cases more than one gift, to give to the children. It is one thing the PBA and the other cops do out of pure love and concern for the kids. Good job all around. Not a bad word can be said about it. On the other hand, the Fire Department begs the public to drop off toys at the Firehouses and then has every news media available on hand as they give the toys to the kids under the misconception that the firemen bought the toys themselves. That disgusts me. NOT A DIME COMES OUT OF THEIR OWN POCKETS. Be real and tell it like it is. I am sick of the pictures every year of these do-nothings taking credit for other peoples generosity. A while back there was a picture in the Observer featuring some Fireman and Council members or the Mayor about a new Fireman book display at the library. That money was given thru a grant, but it wasn't presented that way. The politicians and Fire department took credit for "buying it" for the kids. LIE. Don't take credit for what others due. It is shamefull and deceitfull. This is another reason that the HFD discredits itself. There are so many things they don't do but make it sound like they did that it's incredible. STOP THE FAKE CRAP AND BE REAL.

Guest What children
Who do they buy the gifts for their own children who attend the annual christmas party or do they actually go around to homeless centers and brighten up some kids day - BIG DIFFERENCE IN WHO GETS THE GIFTS
Guest Guest
The cops give the gifts out at the town hall to all the residents of Harrison (children) who come to the event. NOT to their own families. They buy them out of their own pockets unlike the Fire Department. The HFD cries constantly about money and uses others to donate the gifts and present it as if they paid for them themselves. Shame on them. They should announce who really paid for the gifts they give out. They are donated. The firemen wouldn't part with a dime of their hard earned money. Guest Guest
Ok , Lets put this subject to rest! As a member of the Harrison Police christmas angel project committee I can explain exactly how it works. First a list of families that could use a little extra joy for the holidays is supplied to the committee by the town welfare dept. That list is then broken down by , age and gender only (no names). That list is then set out for members of the Police dept and their families to purchase a gift for the children they choose to pick. The committee also looks to local buisness's for support in order to compensate for the children who show up that are not on the list. NO CHILD IS TURNED AWAY! When all the gifts are collected an inventory is made and we find out what gifts are still needed and what we might need for the children not on the list. Then the committe will spend the whole night shopping for the gifts going from store to store in order to get the most bang for our corporate sponsers buck. When all the gifts are in Police, Family and friends wrap gifts well into the early morning hours usually the night before the event, There have been 200-300 gifts wrapped in years past. Then the next day all of those gifts are transported to the community center, not town hall, and set up on the stage. The doors are opend and each kid is check off the list and those not on the list are written in so that we can prepare for that child next year. Snacks for the event are supplied by the Harrison recreation center and santa volunteers his time to hand out all the gifts. There are usually some big purchase gifts that are raffled off, in order to keep it fair. Then when all the children are gone. The remaining gifts are collected and dropped off at area hospitals and or childrens shelters. Then we begin to plan for next year. So if you want to help the town so many of you proclaim to love stop by the police department in November and ask any cop how you can help the Christmas Angel project. They will more than happy to show you how. This is not for us this is for the kids. Thank you
Guest GOOD JOB BY SOME COPS
SOME COPS DO DONATE WHILE OTHERS HIDE AND EXCUSE THEMSELVES FROM PARTAKING. FACT NOT ALL COPS ASSIST IN THE PROGRAM MUCH LESS GIVE THEIR TIME TO THE PROGRAM. IN FACT, IF NOT FOR THE STRUMOLO AND SCHIMPF FAMILY HELP, THE PROGRAM WOULD NOT CONTINUE. GET YOUR FACT RIGHT!EVEN SOME PROGRAM LEADERS DON'T SHOW UP ONLY FOR THE PHOTO OP!
Guest Guest
Chaz Schimpf and Dave Strumolo are two of the better guys this department has ever had, workwise and other. They are good cops, friendly, and have a good sense of humor for all the #### the cops take. MAN-UP TO THEM!
