Random Drug Testing

The Harrison PD has had random drug testing for over 3 years. Why not the Fire Dept? Five fireman have been fired or put on disability for drug use. Four were arrested for buying drugs or use. Such drugs as Cocaine, Heroin, etc were their choices. How would you like a Fireman driving a hook and ladder while on drugs. Its time for the Fire Chief to show some leadership and establish random drug testing. History has shown that its needed.

The one cop that was arrested for buying Cocaine had a history of abuse and should have been terminated during his probationary period, but the Mayor and Council decided that he needed another chance which led to the blemish on the HPD's record.

Stop catering to the FD, and start giving the PD what they need. A new Police Headquarters and better equipment such as MDT's for the Police cars.

This isuue has been brought up before, and the fact remains that you will never, ever see any member of the Harrison Fire Department undergo any kind of drug testing. They refuse to submit to them and the Mayor and counsel are afraid to try it. How could the Mayor and Counsel ask them to undergo drug tests when that could personally lead to a loss of income for themselves or embarass a family that they are taking care of by giving them the job in the first place. If five men were fired for drugs, I guarantee you that there are more involved. Why do we need Battalion Chiefs all of a sudden. I'll tell you why, just look at the last names. The one relative of a councilman (Batallion Chief) is so fat if he ever climbed the ladder that is on the truck the truck would fall over. Fire departments in Hudson County all seem to have one thing in coomom, alcohol and drug problems. Not one councilman has the **** to even suggest it. If he did, they would gang up on him like a pack of wolves and strip his family of all town jobs.

This would be a good time to start drug testing the firemen. They are down the shore at their second homes sucking up the white lines. Maybe Harrison should tax the drug dealers, then you can promote more fireman. At least the money would be coming out of their own pockets then.

why is everyone only worried about the firemen drug testing. why not all town employees. if one department is doing it, why wouldn't you think other departments have drug users too. the whole town is full of drugies so a lot of people would be taxed on it not only the firemen.

The HPD hasn't had a random drug test since VG left. Apparently the new administration doesn't think its necessary. The arrest of a HPD Officer should have put them on notice that there is a problem.

Hmmm and wasnt the HPD officer arrested the SAME one that VG took under his wing??? Even after a DWI arrest in Kearny during his probation period?? and wsnt that SAME officer Officer of the Year thanks to VG????? Amazing how the Drug testing didnt nab VG's pet rat, THAT didnt come until the rat's truck was spotted in front of his dealer's house.

Guest One who knows.

Whoever you are" studies and observations" you should get your facts straight before you write.

When the Officer was arrested and convicted for DWI in Kearny, the Chief recommended that he be terminated from the department, but was overuled by the Mayor and Council who gave him a 6 month suspension.

Random drug testing was initiated by the former Chief who recommended that that the Mayor and Council approve it. They did and it was made part of the rules and regulations. Random drug testing is what it is. An Officer's name is picked randomly by computer to take the test. The PBA and FOP to their credit also approved its use. The fact that the Officer who used drugs was not found out was because he was not randomly picked.

The Officer in question went through rehabilitation and was picked as Officer of the Year because of his outstanding record during that year. It is a tragedy for all concerned, that he reverted back to substance abuse.

Lastly, he was not a squealer like some of the present members are. You have your facts wrong and apparently have a grudge to pick.
