Discrimination against atheists

Well the easiest way to prove that America is not a "Christian Nation" is to note that he/she bases their arguement assuming that The founding fathers are Christian

Well, If you really study your history, instead of listening to a preacher rail against alternate religions in class, you would know about the deistic views of Adams, Jefferson, Hamilton, Franklin, Washington, and even the foreigner's who fought for our freedom, the Marquis de Lafayette, Baron Von Steuben, Marshall Casimir Pulaski.

Also you would know about the Treaty signed by the United States called The Treaty of Tripoi. Specifically cite article 11 of siad treaty....."Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."

The Senate's ratification was only the third recorded unanimous vote of 339 taken. The treaty was printed in the Philadelphia Gazette and two New York papers, with no evidence of any public dissent. Ergo America was not founded as a "Christian Nation" . Also this argument can may be substituted for one which simply reminds the ignorant that America was founded on a principle of religious tolerance....thus the separation of church and state they work so hard to destroy now that the religious have usurped the critical positions in government which may now be turned upon the enlightened, rational, educated and intelligent individuals of this country.

I thank you for taking the time to read through this post and look forward to any rebuttals.

16 months to respond to a post ?? I heard atheists were a little slow.

Six days, and you come up with that?

At least the other person said something intelligent.

You DID just land on the planet !! "One nation under God" in our pledge ; All currency reads, "In God we trust" .

Not during the first 150 years of our nation. This was added in the 50's.

Interestingly, after that things started going down hill.

Not present until many years AFTER the country was founded.

Also not present until many years AFTER the country was founded.

No "we" don't. No one has to swear on a Bible in court and say "so help me God"--I believe one can if one _wants_ to, but it's not mandatory. Idiot.

How ironic, considering the content of your post.

It's nice to know that Captain Kayos is back. Just to clarify you do have to swear on a Bible. Check you facts before coming on and spewing off again at things you don’t know anything about.

Look Patriass!

All of those things you cited were incorported years after this country was founded and then they were added by those who gave absolutely no creedence to the beliefs of others. I am immune to your insults although I might be offended provided that I had an ounce of respect for you.

This comes from someone with one tooth, army boots and shorts from Missouri. I am sure we are all going to trust this reliable source. As you might have guessed, there are many people who do not have a ounce of respect for you either.

Are you aware that you're responding to a post that is a year and a half old?

Just to clarify you do have to swear on a Bible.

No, you don't. It is optional. Chain e-mails have even gone around because people were so outraged that people are allowed to simply raise their right hand and "swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth", with no Bible present nor any mention of any god.

Check you facts before coming on and spewing off again at things you don’t know anything about.

You are the one who needs to "check you facts".

"Religious objectors like Quakers have long been allowed to affirm without a Bible; they’re now joined by increasing numbers of Jews, Muslims, atheists and others.

In 1961, the US Supreme Court overturned a Maryland law requiring notary publics to swear that they believed in God. In 1991, a federal appeals court ruled that it was unconstitutional for a judge to compel an atheist prospective juror to either swear or affirm, since either oath could be viewed as essentially religious.

Today, while mandating that witnesses swear an oath of some sort, federal and most state rules of evidence do not require any mention of God.

Ohio Revised Code merely says “a person may be sworn in any form he deems binding on his conscience.” No Columbus, Ohio court—from municipal to federal—uses a Bible, though most still end the oath with “so help me God.”" --http://archives.stupidquestion.net/sq12199bible.html

 Here-I even chose a site you might trust:

http://www.csmonitor.com/2005/0720/p02s02-usju.html

Note the following passage:

Already, witnesses in American courts do not have to take a religious oath and can instead simply testify on pain of perjury. It's up to judges to decide what passes for an oath.

Do you really think you're fooling anyone? Same foolish grammatical mistakes and convoluted sentence structure.

Why do you hate Americans? Missouri has quite a few of them, you know.

A witness may either swear or affirm. No witness is required to swear on the Bible or any other scripture. I've been practicing law for thirty years and have seen plenty of witnesses, both for my client and against, affirm without using the Bible.

You're just plain wrong. Where did you get your misinformation?

Paul responds intelligently with facts to correct a false statement and you respond with trite sarcasm. You have shown us your level of intelligence. Moron.
