A story today about a Washington, D.C. man who died directly across the street from a fire house because Firefighters didn't feel like providing EMS services illustrates the choke hold that fire dept. unions have on state and local governments. As explained in the article, the local D.C. Firefighter union has a contractual agreement that the Mayor or Chief could not enforce any discipline beyond a suspension even if a person dies by blatant negligence. This is just one of the many examples of paid Firefighters immunity from discipline, responsibility, and accountability. Police Officers are guilty until proven innocent and Teachers are chastised for the slightest infraction. Why are the golden child, uneducated, overpaid, underworked, unskilled, manual laborer, sleep on the taxpayers dime, live out of town employee Firefighters given such immunity from disciplinary actions? Why are Firefighters always at the very top of municipal employee pay for such little productivity? Do local N.J. municipalities like Kearny or Harrison have this twisted inhumane contractual clause in place? The public should be afforded transparency in all Firefighter disciplinary procedures and names of those involved.

More Barney blather. Firefighters are highly respected. Remember the hundreds of FF's rushing into the Towers to save people and dying in their efforts. It's much safer for Barney to post from the safety of his bedroom, he could never be a FF.
