Guest Guest
After reading the article about Bunnyland being the site of an old soldiers home in the early 1900's, I asked my grandfather who's 95 and in a nursing home. He was born and raised in Kearny. His short term memory is not so good but he remembers everything from years ago. When asked about the Bunnyland story he immediately remembered and said it was true. He remembers it being a home for Civil War soldiers with many of them missing limbs. He does remember them mostly sitting on the front porches in rocking chairs and remembers bringing them chocolates. I'm surprised that Kearny has not erected a sign or plaque indicating the historical significance of this site.
Guest Guest
Google : NJ homes for disabled soldiers. There's a lot of information there. The Kearny home was open from 1887 to 1932.
