Guest Guest
I moved out of Kearny years ago. I grew up there and never thought of leaving but things in your life change. I was reading some of the posts here and saw the post about the memories of The Zoo at Bunny Hill and the elk and the bear. Yea they were kept too long but in the day it was started things were different. I walked that path along Bergen Ave a million times. I also remember the live nativity scene at the town hall and the Christmas carols playing over the loud speaker and one year the donkey getting loose. Now all politically incorrect of course. Now there are some very odd statues of life size children that look a little spooky to me but things do change. I also remember Kearny pool and the pool in KHS! The Lincoln theater when it only showed one movie. I remember There was a school on the grounds where the senior living building is now and a school down on one of the hills off Davis ave. I remember those were days when as a kid you could walk all over town and like so many small town USA's you were safe. It was a great place to grow up. I rode through the town recently and a lot has changed like so many NJ small urban towns. However, sadly there is one thing that hasnt changed. The craziness of the Kearny BOE! They have been fighting amongst themseles since the year it became elected! Still name calling, people still running for this office for all the wrong reasons! I find it interesting that there is so much cultural diversity in this town and in the schools (i have friends that are still there) and yet the names of people on this BOE are some of the same names I remember from when I lived there! Its so interesting that I lived there for 44 years and tthere was not one familiar name to me in a newspaper article about children in the schools. Yet, the staff list reads like a whos who of names I can connect to various school board members over the years. They are seriously still talking about a middle school? I remember that when I lived there! The problem appears to be the same. Great concept but no money and no space. How sad for the children in the town that the continued infighting, name calling, nepotism and family employment agency for board members, on all sides cripples the expansion and progression of what is really important! You really have to ask yourself this. Why is there competition to be elected to the school board and not the Mayor and Town Council? I guess there are no jobs for family members in the town. It is so obvious what is going on and yet no one sees. Those that vote must be related to one side or the other? I guess some things never change! Oh, and before all you cranky people start squalking about thie past memories, I am glad I have such good memories of where I grew up and hello to all the great people where ever you are that remember them too! Your memory is perfect. There is one pool that you forgot.......the BOE Cesspool. The BOE should be a group of people working together to oversee and set policy for the district and to provide the best available education. Let's also not forget fiscal accountability to taxpayers. Period....Nothing More! This group are nothing more than hacks. Power hungry deviants who only want to RUN the whole district, give jobs to their friends, hire unqualified individuals, throw money away and NEVER have the children in mind. The problem is that they have entrenched themselves and their followers so deep, and have connections to Political people in Town, that the average person who wants to run and do what is right does not stand a chance. Not to mention how they will be chastised with every step they take. The "cleanest" person in Town could run and they would say, write and spread the word about how bad that person is. Who wants it? Yes, things have changed, the leftists have taken over. No more nativity scenes, they may offend some moronic atheist. Instead of telling the morons to don't look if it offends you, the mayor offends all Cristians by caving in to the simple minded few.
