True national scandals

The right wing propaganda machine is constantly after anyone who doesn't agree with them, inventing phony "scandals" one after another. This is a standard propaganda technique: accuse your adversaries of the worst in yourself.

Here are our real national scandals, a few of the most important ones:

1. We've done nothing about converting from fossil fuels to renewables. The reason: the oil companies have money and power, and have done everything in their power to prevent the loss of their markets. Why is it a scandal? Because the trillions that went into their pockets came out of ours. Meanwhile, climate change is now obvious, we've depleted non-renewable resources that accumulated over millions of years (once we use them up, they're gone), and we've walked ourselves into a perpetual national security problem. All because the oil companies have money and power and have bought off our elected officials so they can continue to make obscene profits at our expense. That is a true scandal.

2. We're walking ourselves right back into the over-leveraged, speculative economy built on paper but not real value that led to the near-collapse of our economy in 2008, and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. The reason: the speculators were given the power. This is both the fault of the Republicans, who wanted this result, and Obama, who put the wrong people in charge of the recovery. As a result, the stock market has fully recovered, and then some, but the middle class continues to disappear, slowly but surely. If we want to restore the American dream as our parents and grandparents understood it in the post-WWII era, we will have to plan as a country in ways that circumvent the natural outcomes of the global economy. We can do it but we have to be smart. Green technologies are part of the solution because they will employ American workers here in the United States. Rebuilding our infrastructure is another part of the solution. Yet we've done nothing. Why? Because the people who thrive on a phony economy-on-paper-only are doing just fine, and don't want change; and too many average Americans are buying the propaganda spun out by Fox, Limbaugh and other shills for right wing interests. This is a scandal we have the power to prevent - but not by listening to Fox and Limbaugh.

3. We have a crying need to modernize and replace our infrastructures. Many bridges need repair. We need high-speed rail like they have in the rest of the developed world. We haven't done it because "government spending" has become the political equivalent of "wife beating." Again, we're being short-sighted.

4. We still don't have a decent health care system. The Affordable Care Act is a first step but that's all it is. Meanwhile, it has handed tens of millions of new customers to the insurance companies, which will now eat up more of our health care dollar on their own profits. Great.

5. We're falling behind some of our major competitors in education, especially in science and mathematics. We need a national effort in this regard but to get it done we need to restore the community spirit we had in the 1950s and 1960s.

In short, we need to become a nation with a vision again, not just an aggregation of people whose political understanding is summarized by "me first." We need to stop listening to the people who are making billions of dollars off of our ignorance and myopia, and think seriously and deeply about what it will take to make our country great in a way that can be sustained for generations to come.

What we need is to stop electing socialists that are only interested in handing out freebies and turning the country into a nanny state.

You left off the most important item, our crushing debt. zerO is spending money (which he borrows from China) like a drunken sailor. He's almost to

17 trillion ( more than 7 trillion since he was elected). This mutt is driving into bankruptcy and you zerO zombies are in a coma.

You're an idiot. Here is a chart showing the debt as a percentage of GDP since 1940. It's high now but not as high as it was after the Great Depression hit. You have to consider why the debt is higher if you're going to make any sense - not that making sense ever troubles you.

Meanwhile, what about the other real national scandals in the opening post on this topic, which caused the rise in the debt? Why do you just ignore them when they're the real problems?

In case you forgot, the President can't spend money. Only the Congress and Senate can. That is when they are working which is rarely. The two Flat Earth Society members never said a word when New Jersey received money from FEMA.

They criticize Obama but praised Bush while he was ruining the economy. One good that comes out of their posts is they make it easier to make themselves out to be fools. No one with any common sense believes anything they post since they only hear what they want to.

Fortunately for the rest of us who actually do fact checking understand them. They call us Socialists but look at the Republican record. They vote to subsidize the large Agriculture farmers like Monsanto, continue to give tax breaks to big Oil and Gas.

Speaker in name only Boner keeps talking about jobs, but has yet to introduce any legislation that will create any. They hate Obama Care but won't offer any alternatives.

And, if you notice on any of their posts they never say where they get their facts from. Where will they get their information when Limbaugh and Hannity are no longer on the radio which will be soon. They're quick to criticize anyone who disagree with them but never offer any solutions. Why, because it's easier than offering alternatives. It's better to look like a fool then open their mouths and remove all doubt.

The entire world is undergoing a corporate takeover (corporations are global, while governments are only national) and idiots like the above can't figure out that they're been fed propaganda by the corporations who control the media outlets they watch and listen to. Then they have the nerve to say the rest of us are zombies and in a coma. I never thought I'd see anything this crazy but the nightmare is unfolding right before our eyes.

The debt is a problem but it is not the most important problem, not even close. Far more important is the rampant speculation that is going on again, has taken economies down before and will take ours down again if it is not regulated. In our system, greed is a bigger problem than debt.

Also far more important is energy. We can't run most of the things that make our economy work without it. Yet we've been exporting trillions of dollars to prop up the oil companies. If we just had that money back, we wouldn't have any debt.

A person who really cared about his country would take all the facts into account, not just repeat the talking points he hears on Fox.

Were the German people who brought Hitler to power evil? Most of them probably were not. Most of them probably were pretty much like us. Yet they swallowed propaganda and created a monster. Who's to say that we Americans can't do the same or worse, considering especially how much more sophisticated the professionals have become at propaganda? Fox is completely shameless about it but because they pander to the worst prejudices in people who aren't very bright, they get away with it. Meanwhile, our country and our children's futures are being sold through legalized bribery, and Fox's only response is that government shouldn't do anything. They're playing us for fools and too many people are falling for it. We have to be smart enough not to fall for it.

Funny you should use Hitler as an analogy. The exact words can be used with zerO. All you democrats swallowed his propaganda and created a monster

also. The lamestream media is also completely shameless about it and they also pander to people who aren't very bright. Our children's future is being destroyed through zerO's 17 trillion in debt that he's run up. And finally zerO is playing you democrats for fools and you're not smart enough to see it.

The President cannot spend money without the approval of Congress. He submits a budget that has to be and voted on and approved and has a Discretionary Budget that also has to be approved.

How about you doing a little checking before you call someone woefully stupid which in this case is you.

Another standard technique of the propaganda artist is to accuse others of what he is doing. You can use any words you want but if you would look at the entire picture, as the opening post on this topic invites you to do, you might realize that we are being manipulated by right wing propaganda artists who use the media to consolidate their wealth and their power.

So who is right? Well, our side acknowledges the debt, and we put it into perspective. You and tens of millions of other Americans who mainly listen to whatever Fox and Limbaugh tell you won't even acknowledge these other issues. In fact, you won't even acknowledge that the current debt is mainly a product of the financial collapse and the disastrous policies of GW Bush. So it's very obvious who is being propagandized. If you were to define "lamestream media," a phrase you picked up from that great intellect Sarah Palin, you probably would include a wide variety of sources from NPR to The New York Times; but if pressed on why they are "lame," your answer would come down to the fact that you don't agree with them.

The bottom line is this: we live in a global economy, a fact you refuse to acknowledge, much less analyze as to its meaning and significance. Journalism is completely different from what it was forty or fifty years ago; so you're right in a sense to call the media lame but not for the reasons you do it. We are witnessing the corporate takeover of the world, with the concomitant destruction of the American middle class. We have spent trillions of dollars on foreign oil when we should have been converting to green technologies. These are major ticket items, and major reasons for our current national debt and much of the personal debt that many Americans face. Put all of this in perspective and then discuss the issues. First, though, you'll have to open your mind and acknowledge that there are other issues besides what you're told on Fox and the Limbaugh show. Instead, all you're doing is falling for the line of people who are trying to manipulate you; in other words, you're their dupe.

Just because you parrot the same language doesn't mean you're making as much sense as what you're parroting. As usual, you ignore the connection to reality. Truth isn't just a matter of form, it's also dependent on content. Consider this comparative example:

1. The solar system is a physical system consisting of one star and several planets, with many of the planets having moons. The system illustrates the law of gravity, with the planets orbiting the sun and the moons orbiting the planets.

2. The rock-star groupie system is a physical system consisting of the lead guitar player and his backup men, with many of the backup men having several groupies. The system illustrates the law of gravity, with the backup men circling the lead guitar player and the groupies circling the backup men.

You think I'm being frivolous, right? I'm not, it's the same thing. We keep telling you, you've severed the connection between your words and reality, and as a result your words either don't mean anything or at best don't make sense. And as always with you, it goes back to your complete unwillingness to address or even acknowledge any issue that doesn't feed your prejudices. Such as all the issues in the opening post on this topic. Until you deal with those, you won't understand the world and you can't say anything useful.

And he will never, under any circumstances, discuss the real issues in their full scope. He'll comment on energy but only if something went wrong in a green technologies company. He will never address the big picture. We have huge problems, like this one:

"We've done nothing about converting from fossil fuels to renewables. All because the oil companies have money and power and have bought off our elected officials so they can continue to make obscene profits at our expense."

A person who really cared about his country would try to do something about that, especially if he's already on an internet forum trying to convince people about political issues. Yet millions of our fellow citizens only repeat what they hear on Fox and Limbaugh. Are they too dense to think for themselves? Are the real issues too much for them to face? We need to face these issues, which we have been ignoring for decades, because if we don't, then we and our children and on down will suffer in ways we don't even want to think about. And maybe that's the problem. These problems are so big that people don't want to think about them. But we have to.

If you care about your children, your country and people in general, think and talk about the big issues. Do what you can to make your friends and neighbors aware. And do all you can to change the direction we have been heading for far too long.

In other words, vote Republican.

No. Today's Republicans have opposed every effort to support green technologies. They are completely in the pockets of the oil companies.

The opening post on this topic lists green technologies, infrastructure, regulation of financial institutions, health care and education as today's big issues. All Republicans want to talk about are immigration, guns and impeaching President Obama. They don't want the government to work, because when the government fails, that supports their narrative. Today's Republicans are ignorant and apparently ineducable - in other words, 2Stupid4Words, a/k/a "Patriot," a/k/a ********* represents them perfectly.

These are the most important issues. So why aren't more people talking about them?

Notice how not one of the right wingers on this site will ever discuss any of these issues in any depth. They're the biggest issues facing our country, and the world, but 2Stupid4Words, et. al., have nothing to say.

That's because Fox doesn't tell them what to think about the big issues. Fox isn't interested in the big issues, the things that really matter. Fox is only interested in peddling propaganda so that the big issues DON'T get discussed. So we waste time over phony crises and non-existent scandals instead of discussing things that really matter.

Tragically, tens of millions of Americans like 2Stupid4Words refuse to accept the fact that they're being manipulated by a propaganda machine.
