What have we become?

To give a bit of background, I found my way here through a link on another forum to the NY Times article, and from there to the main Kearny website, and from there, to here. No, I don't live in Kearny, nor do I even live in the same state. But I believe on an issue like the whole "religion in class" thing, sometimes outside opinions are needed.

And my opinion is as follows:

What is wrong with you people? And by "you people", I'm speaking to all the militant, fundamentalist Christians that are defending the teacher as though he was Jesus himself.

Seriously, take a step back, and look at yourselves. Take a good, long, hard look, and look at what you are doing. I don't care that you're defending the teacher. Frankly, I don't give a damn about that at all. What I see, though, that disgusts me the most, is all the people that are not just defending the teacher, but the ones that are also attacking the student.

Things like:

"Matt's a big d-bag, he should get a big dick up his ass, just like he like it."

All he wanted was to get attention. Come on all the students know that he just provokes these kind of discussions. Matt should switch teachers and not complain about the questions that he asked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is being done with this "student" for embarrassing his teacher, his school and his town?

Those are just a few examples.

Listen to yourselves, people. Those of you yelling about how he should get kicked out of school for having a recording device in class? Guess what? It's not illegal for one to make a recording of class. In fact, they can be very helpful at times to go over incase something's forgotten. Some schools even hand out recording devices so that people can do that.

The people saying that Matthew had no right to try and "destroy the teacher's freedom of speech" have obviously never heard of the seperation of church and state. The teacher is employed by a government facility (the school). Therefore, he is bound to the same rules that all government workers are bound to. If he wants to preach to his church, fine. Preach to the church. But in a school? A public school, for that matter? That is in no way, shape, or form, any place for that kind of preaching to be going on. Especially during class.

You people, ranting about your

"DOWN WITH THE FAMILY WHO GOT HIM IN TROUBLE FOR SPREADING GOD'S MESSAGE!!!!!!"... You are the people that think you believe in being all American? Well, guess what? America was built on FREEDOM. Yes, that's right, FREEDOM. Freedom of religion, speech, all that fun stuff. Even more, it's built on the freedom FROM religion, and speeck, and all that stuff. America is built on EQUALITY. And here you people are, doing nothing but trying to destroy those very principles. To you, only those who agree with you are equal, all others are mere animals. YOU are the terrorists, YOU are the ones destroying this country, and YOU are the ones who are the most un-American of them all.

Is that what you really want? Do you really want to destroy all that this country stands for? Because you're all doing a damn good job of it. And this is just one of the smaller examples.

That's what scares me. That this is just one of the smaller examples of what is wrong with our country. That a student can recieve death threats, DEATH THREATS, for pointing out that his teacher was breaking the law.

You people make me sick.

It's not religion that's destroying America. It's the people that use religion to further their own hate, and push it on everyone else.

Matthew, or Paul. If either of you ever read this, then you have my fullest support with whatever I can do to help.
