As of this coming Wednesday, the Police Dept will be down 10 from it's Numbers on 1 Jan of this year(9 retirements, 1 lateral transfer), with the possibility of between 10 and 14 more before the end of the year, and Zero plans to replace anyone leaving. Fire will also be having a number of retirements this year, Town Hall and DPW as well... response times will go up, services will be reduced..a lot of the things that get taken for granted by the Taxpayers are going to come to a halt. as for Santos and Company, The republicans have pretty much given up it seems, they haven't been able to generate ANY Candidates for years, so i dnt know who the Current incumbents are going to Demonize except other Democrats who dare to challenge the accepted order of things . BOE??? We'll have to see what happens..if the current board can show that they have been doing a better job, Santos and Company will be hard pressed to get rid of them..nevermind that you have people involved that have no problems going toe to toe.....Although not in the sense that apparently one FORMER Member decided to do a while back, not that it worked out all that well for him. All in all, it's going to most likely be a pretty quiet election cycle, unless the Democrats play Kilkenny Cats and gnaw on each other. Admittedly however the sight of that for my OWN amusement, would be epic.

School taxes are half my property tax bill. Doesn't the Board of Education set the school tax rate? Except for last year, the school tax has gone up each year more than the town and even the county tax rates.

The Mayor has done nothing to lower taxes. The Board of Education Election was voted on by the BOE to be moved to November. The BOE moved the Election to November, NOT the Mayor! The BOE has taken the lead in being fiscally responsible over the last 2 years, now he is trying to keep pace with the BOE.

You must be kidding. The Board of Education at there January 17th meeting voted to move the school election to November. It had nothing to do with the king. The vote was 7-1 with Zibby voting no and Lisa not there. Shows how much you pay attention to what is really going on

You can try to spin it that way. The reality is that Mayor Santos had already announced he supported a November election for Board of Education members when the bill was proposed by the Assembly. The Board of Education acted because they couldn't let Santos take credit for moving the Kearny Board election.

I agree that we don't need to go back to the Frankie D. days and the Mayor having a say in how our schools are run. There is bitterness with these individuals who crave on power.
