Guest Just Me
No thats called thinking you live in Newark, thats the way of the world down there. I had to go there once and I was in shock that I found a space so quick , because it was by a bakery. I was in the store ten minutes tops, I came out a car was double parked I couldn't get out, I went to all the stores inquiring, no, no claimed the car I called police they gave him a ticket and told me give a little more time (4 hours) finaly 3 me approached from the bakery and asked what was wrong I explained, they called two more guys and picked the car up to move it, so I am sure this is an everyday thing down neck
Guest quack
I know its bad in Newark, but enough is enough. I see them all the time on Davis and Midland Ave's and the buses have a hard time getting around not mentioning everyone has to move into the wrong lane to go around which is an accident waiting to happen. Give them ALL a ticket and see how fast the word spreads that its a No No to double park. Hit them in their pocket book where they feel it!! Tickets should be issued to all double parked cars. There is no reason to double park. It is a insult to the legal authority. THe PD must have the courage to issue tickets. Do your duty KPD. Dunkin Donuts area, and from the bank on the corner of Bergen/KearnyAve, up to the Dollar Store. Does any of these bozos' realize theres a parking lot across from Mandee's???? If there was KPD car driving up and down Kearny Ave we wouldn't have this mess. What's funny is if I'm at a meter and the quarter expires, I'm sure to have a ticket when I come out. But the doubled parkers don't have a problem....go figure!

The problem here is do as I say not as I do?

Guest Guest
Exactly! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just call the K.P.D. they will come and issue a ticket. I had a situation on my street with a resident and a commercial truck, called after 10:00p.m. KPD came issued a ticket two nights in a row, problem solved vehicle gone. Guest Indy 500
Not only the double parking on the Avenue but the 4pm to 6pm garbage pick up is making it worse. Nothing like 5 double parked cars at 5pm on the Ave between the Pike and Seely and the Cali truck picking up garbage and fighting the 39 for the road. It should be MO. Twenty years ago all would have gotten tix.....the times they are a changin...wait they have already changed. Bowing down to be politically correct and not to bother the new wave of "so called" Americans. And yes to the Ironbound story, it is accepted there so everyone thnks it's accepted here. Not everyone wants Kearny to become Newark.

Past police chiefs would not tolerate double parking and made it known that if allowed, it would turn into down neck. Guess they were right. But now, down neck residents live in Kearny and obviously word has gone out not to ticket them and accept this behavior. Another nail in the coffin. Guest guest
merchants in kearny wish they had the commerce that exists in the ironbound. With Walmart open our local merchants need all the double parkers they can get. Police officers discretion is 99% of the law. Temporary double parking to pick up stuff, drop off shoppers, and pick them up helps the kearny merchants. The 39 Bus blocks everything when it travels up and down the avenue. The buses consistently fail to pull into bus stops. They are worse than the occasional double parker. the bus driver isn't buying anything the double parker is. Guest Guest
"Some" truth to what you say, but try getting a "Double" 39 Bus into a small yellow zone that mostly is blocked by an unlawfull parker. Take the Good citizen that drives around looking for a legal spot, puts in his quarter, gets overstayed in the store and gets a Tix for meter overdue while the car double parked ahead gets an unlawfull free ride. Why any laws at all?? Not to mention the safety of others when a lane is blocked!! Yes lets use some common sence and eliminate the Hazards!! Guest Guest
And of course if the PD did start ticketing everything i'll bet the same posters will be complaining about the "JBT's" once THEY get a summons, or bitching about how the cops are just trying to increase the town's Revenue. You guys make me laugh.

People should't do it, cops should ticket (that stops people from continuing to do it) and besides if cops do their job, people can run up to town hall and Santos will say they dont have to pay the fine. Personally I'd LOVE to see the PD do a few months of ZERO tolerance for everything. ALL parking complaints, Summonses issued..Fire Hydrants, Blocked Driveways?? No more trying to get it moved, tow it. Prohibited Areas?? Ticket them all. Just running in/Dropping Off/Picking Up?? Too bad. And for those who complain about the PD's parking..no problem at all..Hopefully they'll search around for a legal spot when YOU Call 911. Guest Old Council
Thats true, BUT you should not have to call to get things done. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You shouldn't have to call to get these things done, because there shouldn't be such an overwhelming amount of Kearny citizens doing them in the first place. If you had one police car drive up and down Kearny Ave. in the afternoon and evening doing nothing but double parking tickets he still could not keep up (not to mention every other complaint this forum has, from curfews to commercial trucks, to littering). And besides that there are still crimes and a plethora of service calls to respond to, and a proactive presence to keep. There are an outrageous number of families in this town who cannot decide which TV station to watch without calling the police to officiate (this is not an exaggeration and not a singular event). The police force can only be as effective as its residents allow it to be. If you people do not maintain a baseline level of human decency and consideration towards your neighbors the police can only help so much.
