Guest Guest
This concerns the use of camera's to be used as a crime prevention tool. What good is a camera when you are being the subject of a violent robbery or worse. Camera's are after market to give people a false sense of security. To this day, I have never seen a camera jump of a pole and come to someones aid. The only thing camera's provide is a commemerative tape of a seriously hurt victim other than a commemative gift so you can see the brutality of someeone being victimized. The citizens can invite frriends over to watch their attack like a wedding video and are only as good as a multi-tasked dispatcher glances over at them on occasion. Hire more Police Officers ASAP. The towm would probably charge $25.00 to get your beat down tape, what a disgrace.
Guest Guest
Another ignorant comment. I am starting to question why I even visit this board anymore, but I might as well try and educate anyone who does read this nonsense, so they are not brainwashed. If you run a search on studies of areas that have surveillance, you will see that it helps to 1)deter incidents and 2) when incidents to happen, they are able to retrieve valuable information that may have been missed because of a lack of eyewitnesses. I just can't see why the original comment holds any water or has any rational thinking behind it. I for one am glad that they have these cameras installed, and the question could turn into a 'Big Brother watching over our every move', but if it will help deter and help solve crime, then I saw let them be, and add more if we had the grants to do so. Thoughts, ideas, creative criticism??

Thoughts, ideas, creative criticism?? As this study, about San Francisco's cameras, says - "The results find that while the program did result in a 20% reduction in property crime within the view of the cameras, other forms of crime were not affected, including violent crime, one of the primary targets of the program." San Francisco Study Here's some more links stating that the cameras are ineffective- 80% off CCTV images "ineffective" According to a report by the Metropolitan police, only 3% of street robberies were solved using CCTV cameras. Another report admits that for every 1,000 cameras installed in the U.K., only one crime is solved. In fact, of the five boroughs which are the most “wired”, four of them have a crime clear-up rate that is below average, showing absolutely no correlation between cameras and catching criminals. Ouch......That one's gonna leave a mark. Sounds like SOMEONE should have done a little fact-checking before expressing their opinion.
