Guest Guest
As announced on their web site, MONOC, the company that runs the paramedic units running out of Clara Maass (Unit 256) in Belleville and the old West Hudson Hospital (Unit 257) will be cutting back the units significantly. In a nut shell, 256 will be shut down entirely and 257 will be pared back to a 7 am to 11 pm operation only. That will leave one paramedic unit based in Kearny for their entire coverage area (Kearny, Lyndhurst, Harrison, East Newark, North Arlington, Belleville and Nutley) and no unit for the same area between 11 pm and 7 am. The web site gives MONOC's reasons for this and the other units in the state they are closing. The area will have to rely on the availability of Paramedic units from Newark, Jersey City and possibly Clifton and Montclair. The Clifton unit is also a MONOC unit so I doubt they will be much of a help. If anyone is interested, the web site is www.monoc.org/executive.cfm Please spread the word. This needs to be halted before someone is hurt or worse.

Guest Guest
That Clifton unit is being scaled back as well. There was once two units 801 and 802 (7a-7p) but now it will only be the one out of PBI. I hope to not get sick anytime between 11pm and 7am. I for one am scared. Whats next, the Hurse showing up to take you to the hospital like it was done many many moons ago?
Guest Guest
Apparently the MONOC Director Vince Robbins was on News 12 today talking about the Paramedic cuts he was doing in our area. I did not see the report myself but from what I was told, it was strictly the MONOC side of the story and that our area would have to rely on surrounding units or do without Paramedic services. I am told the report is also available on the News 12 web site.
Guest Guest
Boy, its a good thing St. Barnabas contracted MONOC to run their Paramedic units isn't it. That worked well didn't it? Unlike having a local hospital run the units, where the community's welfare plays into decision making, Mr. Robbins is strictly looking at the $$$. He has no connection to our area whatsoever sp why would he care? Yes I know the billing issues in the state need to be changed but why take this course. This tactic is not a good way to get support for his cause. It is only alienating MONOC more from those they (used to) serve.
Guest Guest
Unfortunately, Like it or not, much like with the hospital itself, you CANNOT force a priavte company to operate in a certain area. Once Hospitals began operating os a "For Profit" business, this sort of thing became inevitable, and things will only get worse before they get any better. Guest Guest
This was just announced over the last few days. West Hudson Hospital was closed down and an agreement was reached that a 24 hours Paramedic unit would be based in the area to provide services in the absence of the hospital. MONOC has determined that this area does not live up to their standards, they can not make money in the area and threatened to remove one of the two units providing services to the area and to scale the other one back to operate from 7 am to 11pm. Well someone stepped up and this was changed. As it stands now the Kearny unit will operate 24 hours a day 7 days a week. And the sister unit in Belleville (At Clara Maass I think) will operate from 7am to 7pm. HOWEVER at night the unit from Kearny is being relocated from Kearny to Belleville for the entire evening. Why is this? Could there be two different agreements being made, one for closing West Hudson and the other with Belleville / Nutley? How many lives must be destroyed for the might dollar, Mr. Robbins?
