Guest Guest
Government jobs should not exist to provide employment for those that "need" a job, nor for those that "deserve" a town job. Government jobs should exist solely to fulfill a function/service for the residents/citizens of a given district. Government jobs should be filled by the most competent person possible for that position and that should be the sole criteria for filling any position. Merit and necessity should drive hiring - nothing else. Unfortunately people had to be let go in Harrison (and across the State) because there is no longer enough revenue to pay for all the government services. The biggest cost? Total compensation to government employees (e.g. base salary, health insurance, pension costs, vacation, etc.). Fewer public employees would be laid off if we either: 1) significantly cut back benefits to public employees (like raising retirement age, changing pension plans to defined contribution, requiring them to pay a greater share of health costs, etc.; or 2) significantly raise taxes to pay for the benefits. Neither of those are likely, so we will have option 3) more layoffs of public employees, fewer government services, and marginally increasing taxes every year. A stagnation and steady decline. Harrison is in need of reform across the board. Jobs aren't given based on merit alone and the top echelon of politician/employee fills their positions not to serve the residents/citizens but to cement and enhance their place at the trough of public money. The only thing is, they laid off all the people who make little money. All the people who make the big fat pay checks are still making big fat paychecks. Why didn't they just take 20% from everyone across the board and keep everyone in their jobs. Or does that make too much sense for Harrison? Get rid of all the people who make very little money and cut the crossing guards lunch hours out and keep all the high paying positions! Yup! Mayor McCheese that is the way you think! You are out as far as I am concerned!

He keeps all the high earning, out of town employees who can't vote, and gets rid of all the $20,000. clerks and laborers who can vote. It seems the writing is one the wall. Don't vote for him. The McCormicks and slate may be overwhelmed at first, but they can be held accountable. This group we have now are out of control. They think they can do whatever they want. Seems to me they are and are getting away with it. Three of them are bold faced liars, the rest are puppets who are trying to keep the jobs that were handed to them and their family members. Time for them to go. It's unbelievable that Anselmo Milan fell for his bs. I wonder what he's been promised? They hated each other's guts for the past few years, now they're good buddies. Makes you wonder what kind of men they are. Neither one of them are Harrison, that's for sure.

The second oldest profession in the world (and in many ways similar to the first profession). Still the one you know is better than Maria "the mouth" or Stevie boy, that's for sure! Guest Guest
Not so sure about that. They are all pro's and politicians, you're right about that. Maybe the new ones on the slate aren't so jaded yet. The council we have now con't do anything, don't stand for anything and certainly don't accomplish anything. All they do is shake their heads YES. Everyone knows that she is related to the Mayors Secretary and the guy in the construction dept.(husband and wife team) and that is the way it works around here, not everyone gets the same opportunity.......
