Guest Guest
OK. Inexplicably, both parties supported Gramm-Leach-Bliley [but see http://www.govtrack.us/congress/vote.xpd?vote=s1999-105 ] but its named sponsors are all Republicans. http://www.govtrack.us/congress/person.xpd?id=300159 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Leach http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_J._Bliley,_Jr. Nearly all of the opposition came from liberal Demcrats. See the pie charts under “Legislative History” at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gramm%E2%80%9...80%93Bliley_Act So, if Congress and the President had listened to liberal Democrats, we wouldn’t have this problem. That is a fact. One thing is for sure: Obama didn't deregulate the banks. Nice shell game with that little switch from the banks to Fannie and Freddie. Bush did absolutely nothing to rein in the banks while the markets heated up and drove the economy toward the cliff. Shell game? Fannie and Freddie with their 25 million junk mortgages and accounting fraud is the cause of the financial crisis. Bush and McCain repeatedly warned about a financial collapse starting in 2001. They pushed congress to regulate Fannie and Freddie in 2003. Despite clear signs of a meltdown, Barney Frank and other Democrats said they were financially sound. That is a fact. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12923225/ http://www.nytimes.com/1999/09/30/business...ml?pagewanted=1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MGT_cSi7Rs

Fannie and Freddie are not the banks. You absolutely insist on focusing on only one part of the problem and ignoring most of it. We need a sound regulatory system. Clinton and Congressional Democrats from the 1990s share the blame for undoing it but remember, the Republicans held the majority in Congress when that legislation was passed and have consistently favored undoing regulations, which they did. Even now, after the disaster of 2008, Congressional Republicans are trying to block reform. We need regulation of the banks, along with Fannie and Freddie. President Obama and Congressional Democrats are supporting that and probably are about to get it passed. Republicans can't afford to oppose it this time, so despite announcing that they had 41 Senators lined up to block reform [http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20002732-503544.html], they're probably going to support it now that they have no viable political alternative. But there's no escaping the fact that the banks are lobbying them hard and plying them with cash to buy their votes against reform. Guest *Autonomous*
Autonomous ! Resurfaces and still spouting lies about my military service. My guess is you were a disgruntled E-2 who thinks he should have been an E-4. What lie? You have doubted my service as well as that of others, yet won't give any proof of your own. I've given my unit information-you can't because you know any veteran will be able to question you about specifics of your unit which you can't answer. EXACTLY as I said. You, sir, are a coward and a liar.

You apparently have some misguided anger issues relating to the military since in my last post I said: "As a vet myself, I fully support the best health care for returning vets". Such an anti-military statement, I should be ashamed.

[http://abcnews.go.com/WN/goldman-sachs-profits-give-political-support-financial-regulatory/story?id=10424965 http://www.aflcio.org/corporatewatch/paywatch/bigbanks.cfm] There were many causes, banks, sub-prime mortgages, derivatives and at the core of the problem were Fannie and Freddie. They bought the sub-prime mortgages that the banks were compelled to sell by the Community Reinvestment Act (a good idea gone bad) and fraud committed by the CEOs. You can argue that the crisis was caused by deregulation or too much regulation; I’m in favor of regulation but not too much or the wrong regulation. Government creates the problem by regulating and deregulating, and then blames someone else for the mess. Banks are the most heavily regulated industry in the country, look where that got us. I would like to see new legislation that’s bipartisan and has no government mandated lending, no sub-prime mortgages, regulates derivatives and actually gives out mortgages to people that can afford them. Unfortunately I don’t think they will get it right again. Like you said, they will give in to lobbyists and not pass the best bill possible
Guest *Autonomous*
You doubt I'm a veteran, I'm OK with that. No you aren't-you claimed I was lying for saying you wouldn't prove your service. You call me names, I'm OK with that too. See above. You want me to somehow prove my service experience on KOTW, ain't gonna happen. I already said you wouldn't and you called me a liar. Nope-just asked you to name your unit. You apparently have some misguided anger issues relating to the military since in my last post I said: "As a vet myself, I fully support thebest health care for returning vets". Such an anti-military statement, I should be ashamed. Project much? I'm the only vet on here to give my unit and deployment dates. How dare you, you cowardly little F**K. The reason that debunking you is so important is that you use your claim to give your inane, dishonest posts credence. The fact is-even if you were a vet, destroying political discourse by flat out lying constantly would still be unpatriotic. You take Fox News talking points which are based in truth (usually-they do make it clear when they are stating an opinion-you're just too stupid to realize the difference) and you spin them so far to the right that they have no resemblance to reality whatsoever. Your world is a fantasy. Neither political party is trying to destroy America, they just have different priorities.

How can you look at the massive debt zerO is running up, ignoring the invasion of our southern border and trying to take over all aspects of our lives and then say he's not trying to destroy America as we know it?? Remember the pledge zerO made when campaigning, the pledge to unite America? How's that pledge working out for you?? BTW, giving your unit and deployment date really makes you a Rambo-type, I'm impressed.

That claim is purely ideological. The banks and other financial institutions are also major causes of the crisis. Going forward, what matters is the solution. These institutions must be properly regulated.

All of this has been explained to you. Instead of advancing the argument and acknowledging that we had to incur debt to avoid a complete meltdown of our economy, all you ever do is repeat the same idiotic talking point. Instead of paying attention to the greed on the top, you insist on beating up on people who have virtually nothing. Instead of recognizing that a complex economy and society requires a more extensive government, you blame government for getting bigger out of necessity. You don't think, and you refuse to consider the issues; tragically, there are tens of millions of Americans just like you. Historically, every great nation has declined. It happened because their people denied reality and refused to see what was right in front of them, which is exactly what you do every single time you post here. The Loonys on the far left have trotted out the racist card so much it's become inane in the extreme. Tea Party Patriots, racist; you think zerO is destroying America, racist; you live in Arizona and want to defend your family, racist; think federalized healthcare's a bad idea, racist; want to defend the constitution, racist. Rambo was probably racist too so nomas couldn't be a Rambo-type, more like a spineless leftist puke.

You are the one who said racial profiling is logical. I never said racial profiling is logical. BUT, I will say racial profiling CAN be logical and helpful to law enforcement at times. Example, you're a cop on duty when a call comes in for a shooting at a liquor store. You're just a block away and you arrive quickly to see 2 cars leaving the parking lot in different directions at high speed. You can see one car is being driven by a white female, the other by a black male. Every cop is going after the black male and if you're honest with yourself you'll admit you would too. Ergo, you're racial profiling.
