Guest Dogretired
Mayor McDonough stated that without the amount of 5.5 million dollars in state aid in coming '010 that there would be layoffs of town employees which would reduce services to residents. Water rates will be going up approximately 9%. Steve McCormick questioned why town employees could not pick up recycling instead of the garbage hauler in light of a new garbage contract with Cali Carting for the cost of 4.2 million for three years. When questioned about the installation of a backflow valve for the Cleveland Avenue firehouse, Rocco Russomanno said he did not know the cost. He said a licensed plumber was needed for the valve but NOT for the boiler which was also installed at the same time. The construction official also said that if you perform a project in your house that requires a permit, you must estimate the cost at what it would be for an outside contractor to do the job. This amount must be indicated on the permit. Why? For a higher tax rate of course. A resident spoke up about town employees not working on their job. He was told to inform Mr. Catrambone at the water dept. Maria McCormick said that they may have been "encouraged" to do so by Mr.Catrambone. The subject of water main breaks came up and it was noted that the town performs this work and only subcontracts out when the job is beyond their ability. It was noted that the town does not have a backhoe, only a "bobcat". The mayor closed the meeting in spite of questions still being raised, accusing Steve McCormick of grandstanding. I just don't understand the thinking of the mayor. If there are going to be layoffs to save money than why is our water bills going to go up 9%. As far as I already knoe, Harrison pays the highest water bills of all the surrounding towns. Its time for us to get the federal government involed in this towns government. It is time we start to speaK to the right people nowt to each other at the town meetings. Lets start writting to Christie. Its time we shake these fat cats up! Guest Dogretired
Did Councilman Doran lose his temper or did he behave himself??? Inquiring minds want to know!!! Mr. Doran was quiet and didn't say much. Mr. Catrambone was miffed by questioning from Steve McCormick, some questions he could not answer or did not know the answer. stating that McCormick sells shirts and he (Catrambone) knows how to run the DPW
Guest Guest
As an afterthought, why was it necessary for four police officers to be in attendance at the meeting? The way I see it the Mayor has many excuses to leave these town meetings. Whether he has to cancell a meeting due to the importance of going to the DCA to speak to Mrs. Jaccabucci (four days after the meeting 12-1-09), this is just because he had all town employees come to the meeting to granstand about the raise and about how this majore 3 1/2% raise was going to make a major impact on taxpayers. Or perhaps when he had to attend a dinner for the displaced families of the fire on Franklin Ave., the only reason he went there was to take a picture for the Observer with Larry, Jimmy, Francisco, Dollarhand and the rest of the picture takers. Very nice of all those picture takers, but what did they realy do, funds come from Red Cross, Local Business Owners and private donations. Excuses, Excuses, Excuse. Pete ain't around to speak for the Mayor now, who's gonna do it? don't thing Bennett understands what a RAB is or a PILOT

Doran makes a quarter of a million a year. All he has to do is shut up and say "YES" at the appropriate time.

New high school, thanks to the people of N.J. best services of any town in the county. More teachers, then any town in the county. All thanks to the people, tax payers of the state. Why do people who live in Harrison feel as though they should not pay taxes like the rest of us. I know, if you live in Harrison, you should not have to pay taxes, well welcome to the real world. We all pay high taxes in N.J. I just wish that the rest of us would be able to receive all the extra money that Harrison gets. Stop complaining, just be greatful for all that you get. Christie, if you voted for him welcome to the tax rate the rest of us pay, good luck..........
